As Pmalek says, once you've updated to the latest version, click on "Accounts" on the left hand side, and then "Add account". Choose bitcoin, and you will be prompted to connect and unlock your Ledger, and then navigate the bitcoin app. You will then be met with a box which looks like this:

Choose the "native segwit" option under "Add new account", and that's it.

Your current bitcoin will remain in your nested segwit (3xxx...) addresses. If you want to move them to a new native segwit address, you will to send them as normal and pay the associated transaction fee.

Would anyone please walk us through, step-by-step, how to open the new account on the device?
You need to update your Ledger Live app to the newest version. After that connect your device and create a new Bitcoin wallet. Choose a native segwit account and that should be it.

If you already have a Bitcoin wallet and are using addresses starting with 3 you will not be able to generate a native segwit address from that account. That is why you need to create a new wallet first.

Glad to see Ledger have finally caught up with Native SegWit, but in all honesty, it's pretty disappointing it has taken them this long.

Trezor still doesn't support receiving to native SegWit addresses in their web wallet. I'm surprised that Ledger has introduced it before Trezor, but it seems that they haven't tested it well enough.

I have a Ledger Nano S that I would like to work with to be able to work with native SegWit (bc1xxxxxx...) addresses, but I have not been able to see anyone above actually demonstrate that they have done it and how.

I do not use Electrum with my Nano S.

Would anyone please walk us through, step-by-step, how to open the new account on the device?

That would be appreciated not just by me but likely by many others here.  Thank you!

Glad to see Ledger have finally caught up with Native SegWit, but in all honesty, it's pretty disappointing it has taken them this long. Still won't be enough for me to stop using Electrum with my Ledger though, since (as far as I know) Ledger Live still doesn't support proper UTXO control.

I never felt to try my Ledger Nano S with Electrum. If I ever do then may be I will write a short post about it.
It is very easy to set up. There are instructions here: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005161925-Set-up-and-use-Electrum
You don't need to set up any new addresses, and you don't need to use your seed. You just plug in your Ledger, unlock it and navigate to the bitcoin app as you would normally, but instead of opening Ledger Live you open Electrum, and pair the two together.

After a month, Bech32 address support finally out from experimental stage  Roll Eyes

I heard that there is a risk involved of exposing the private key. Never tried it though.

I think you're mistaken it with xpub (Extended/Master Public Key), where the risks are :
1. Loss of privacy (for non-hardened xpub, which used by Ledger Nano S)
2. xprv (Extended/Master Private Key) exposed if both xpub & private of any address leaked (only for hardened xpub, which is uncommon these days)

There is no need to write or worry about it.

The manufacturer of ledger nano recommends using it with Electrum.

Electrum (from version 2.7.0) features support for the Ledger Nano S (Linux, Windows, OS X).

It is a better a more trusted software than ledger live (which was launched this year btw).

You should worry about using ledger live, if you are paranoid.

Something may be bugged with ledger live and native segwit addresses (may be a bug, this is a new feature)
I am pretty sure it's a bug.

Since every thing is very clearly showing on the blockchain, I would say there are nothing to worry for Backslash77. The balance are in his wallet. According to the transaction on the blockchain 1 BTC was sent to the address 3KodMvBcdXdUfNMV5v8Fe1rvrzRibPzoZw and the rest were gone to the changed address which is bc1qssyu9sxgczgvtdxt3jctf7kxf4gh50qx2zxp0d  is this case.

~snip~

You don't have to expose your private key. Electrum allows you to create a new wallet using a hardware device. If you don't connect the device then Electrum will act as a watch-only wallet.

According to this page, you have to create a new account. I can't give you any further details since I don't own any Ledger device anymore.

I have Ledger Nano S. I will try later today and will post an update on this topic. Hopefully it will help us to understand.

I can confirm that one needs to update their Ledge Live to have this feature for your Ledger wallet.

@Backslash77
Can you try to Clear cache of you Ledger Live?

Go to the settings icon on the top right corner, next to synchronize.

Click and then go to help tab and finally find the Clear blue button to clear the cache.

Not sure if that will help but worth trying.

Take a look at the following image.

The second address is not displayed because it belongs to you (it's clearly a bug). According to the block explorer, you combined two inputs and sent 1 BTC to 3KodMvBcdXdUfNMV5v8Fe1rvrzRibPzoZw. The change has been sent to bc1qssyu9sxgczgvtdxt3jctf7kxf4gh50qx2zxp0d. Due to some bug, you can't see the balance of your change address. It should be fixed by Ledger soon.

I heard that there is a risk involved of exposing the private key. Never tried it though.

But anyway, you don't even need ledger live, as you can generate native segwit addresses using Electrum+ledger nano. Much better control over your funds also.

Some people don't want to use Electrum for some reason. This thread is targeted at people familiar only with Ledger Live.

Hi i have a problem with my ledger nano x
send 1.52 btc to this adress 3KodMvBcdXdUfNMV5v8Fe1rvrzRibPzoZw

But only recive 1 btc
My wallet is empty i only make a transaction to that adress starting with 3 using ledger live mobile and nano x

https://blockstream.info/tx/ca6d2e4a3fde2ca155b8d8be2671f3a3c74a093b773bb1b0ad6a70920a611825

are you sure this is your transaction?
That transaction is like BitCryptex said. The person sent 1 btc and the 0,52 is a change.

Give us more information. You said you received 1 btc, and now your wallet is empty?

I advice you to install electrum, follow these steps (https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005161925-Set-up-and-use-Electrum) and check for you balance. Something may be bugged with ledger live and native segwit addresses (may be a bug, this is a new feature)

Ledger has just released a new update in which support for native SegWit addresses has been introduced.

Thank you. I was missing that for my Ledger wallet. They supported legacy, wrapped segWit address before.

Anyway, updating the ledger live will be enough or we need to do anything else to generate the native SegWit?

Edit:
What I realize that just updating the live will work fine.

Ledger has just released a new update in which support for native SegWit addresses has been introduced.

What are the benefits of using such addresses?

- lower transaction size,
- smaller QR code,
- case-insensitivity.

Note that some services might not be able to send to native SegWit addresses. If you need full compatibility and still want to save some money on fees then use nested SegWit addresses (they start from 3).
