Okay i just clicked on update ledger live as i saw this.  It did updated.  Firmware version shows 1.4.2.  But next to it shows firmware version 1.5.5 is available.  Do i update the firmware first before downloading the bitcoin gold and cash wallets?

Tried to install bitcoin gold app first from Manager.

Message shows bitcoin and eth apps required.  Install the latest bitcoin and eth apps first.

I already have btc app installed.  So i then tried to install btc app and it says i already have it...

So i need to install ETH app even though i don't have eth?

Firmware version is 1.4.2 if that means anything?

Alright so when i add bitcoin cash and gold in it... this to be done through manager correct and click install?  I see waves is there as well and i believe i installed that a long time ago.  So install bitcoin cash and gold through manager?  Then i have to add it in the account section?  Is there a reason waves isn't available to add in the accounts section?

After i plug in my ledger s into laptop and enter pin, on it i see bitcoin, then right click there is waves and right click and there is settings.  So that mean i have only have 2 wallets installed on my nano ledger s right
bitcoin and waves?

If i install bitcoin cash and gold, do i need my nano ledger s plugged into laptop when adding bitcoin cash into ledger live?

Also when installing bitcoin cash wallet, i have to set it to either legacy or segwit correct and make sure its correct?  Im going to claim my bitcoin cash and my addresses in electrum start with 1 so make sue i make that legacy right otherwise i have issues?

Thanks all for that explanation.

Okay right now i want add other coins to my nano ledger s.  The only ones i added are bitcoin and waves i believe.  It shows waves when i go through my nano ledger by scrolling it but it doesn't show waves in my ledger live account.  So do i have it installed or not?

In ledger live

It shows

Accounts (1)

Bitcoin

So that mean i do not have bitcoin cash or gold installed right?  And how do i do this?  Can i install it without having my nano ledger s connected to it?

Because now i want to claim my bitcoin cash from electron cash as i had btc in electrum at the time of the fork.

Then want to claim bitcoin gold.

I know that my electrum wallet is a legacy wallet as the addresses in it started with a 1

So how do i add the bitcoin cash and gold wallet now in my ledger?  Is there a chance i already added the bitcoin cash?

Okay when i get the message ti verify on the ledger live... i click it.  Then it ask me to confirm on the ledger s.  I right click yes on the nano ledger.

Now there is option to reverify or copy.  So when i want to send btc from electrum to the nano ledger s, just click copy.  Then copy it and post the address to the electrum send to correct and thats good?  Im confused why there is the option to reverify?
Yes, but don't just blindly click on Yes to get rid of the notification. Check if the address on your PC is the same as the one that is shown on your Ledger device. That's the first time you should compare them.
You should compare the addresses a 2nd time after you have copied the address from your PC and pasted it into Electrum. Again, compare the digits to make sure it is the same address you previously saw and confirmed on your Nano S.

Even if your PC is infected, nobody can steal the bitcoins from your Ledger unless they have physical access to it. The only thing that can happen is that you make a mistake and send it to a wrong address due to a malware in the form of a clipboard virus.
That's why it is so important to compare the addresses at least 2-3 times.

Reverify if in case you needed to reverify. But if you are sure it's the same address as with the device then your good to go.

So has there been times when the address on the ledger live is different from what is showing on the nano ledger s though?  Also its like you have to put it right next to each other as the nano ledger s goes by real fast for you to make sure its correct?
An infected computer or software could show the wrong address. That’s why there is the device to confirm the address. You can’t trust the PC, but you can trust the device.

if this happened to you on "that" PC then I'd rather double check the address. The PC, as TryNinja says, seems to be infected by bitcoin hacking software. You need to remove that malware or best use a new fresh install PC if the address doesn't match.

Hi thanks.  So when i get the address, whether i decide to receive btc or not, always click the yes right?  Example right now i saw the code and its the same and i just right click confirm.
It doesn’t really matter... but yeah. Both options will just close the window.

When i try this again in a short while, will it generate a different address?  So basically the address that is shown now and i clicked confirm even though im not sending it at the moment, i can always send it to that address later on in the future as that address is always one of my address?   I will be sending my remaining btc from my electrum to the nano ledger s in a short while.
It generates a new address everytime the old one gets used. Any address can be used any time, and how many times you want. It’s the same behavior as an Electrum wallet.

Thanks for the reply on this.

Has there been examples of ppl with infected computers and had this happen with the nano ledger s?  So if they have this issue, they basically have to use a different computer or just do a complete reinstall of their operating system?

So basically if you have btc received to your nano ledger say 25 times, well its going to have at least 25 addresses?

Click on the receive button in Ledger Manager, it will wait for the device, plug in your device.

Once plugged-in go to your bitcoin app on Ledger Nano S device. All those check-marks will marked check and you will now proceed to the next process, Verification. An address will show on your Ledger Nano S device. Verify that is the same with Ledger Manager live and then push the right check mark button on your Ledger Nano S device. That's it.

I also notice on ledger live, it shows a new update available and on the far right update now.  Do i click on that now or thats not a big deal?

Also on the ledger s screen that show

use wallet to view wallets, settings, about, quit app, the previous screen before this show wallets like bitcoin, waves.  How do i get back to that one?  Do i click quit app?

But what i have on the nano ledger screen now with the use wallet to view wallets, settings, about, quit app, that is what i should see now?

So now to receive btc from electrum, i go to

Accounts bitcoin... then on top right click on receive?  When i do this, it has both

connect and unlock your ledger device and navigate to your bitcoin device both checked.  Then i click next?

But when i do it says Verify address on device- please verify that the btc address shown on your device matches the computer and there is option to click on verify.  But on the nano ledger screen, all it shows is uses wallet to view accounts?  So where is my btc address for my ledger nano so on the ledger live?  I want to send btc from electrum to it now.

I then clicked right to bitcoin and then double click it.  Right now its on the screen use wallet to view account.  Only thing i can now is click right and go to settings, about and quit app.  So is there where im suppose to be now?

Right now i want to send my remaining btc from electrum to my nano ledger s.

One question i believe is bitcoin or bitcoin cash and i choose bitcoin right?  Then afterwards it ask legacy or segwit.  Im close to 100 percent i used segwit last time.  But is there a way to make sure i set it up with segwit?  What if i press segwit but it was actually legacy?  Then it wont show any btc?  I want to make sure this is the exact order its done and questions asked because i havent used it in a while.

Yes, you choose Bitcoin. If you select the 'wrong' type you can simply add a new address in Ledger Live. If you've never set up a SegWit address before, when you click SegWit Ledger will create a new one for you. You won't lose any BTC in this process, so don't worry too much.

Just FYI, as others mentioned, using Ledger Live is more recommended. I used Ledger Chrome app weeks ago because Ledger Live stuck and it still works, however there might be potential bug that can make you lose your Bitcoin. So even if it still works, choose Ledger Live or connect your Ledger to Electrum.

The short answer is just run Ledger Live and then follow all the prompts... it will tell you "step by step" what you need to do (connect and unlock device, open coin app etc). After you have it all setup, you don't even need to have the Nano S connected when you want to run Ledger Live and view your balances etc.

Also... don't use the Chrome App. As far as I'm aware, it hasn't been updated in a long time and is deprecated.

To use your Ledger Nano S you first need to plug in your device with the appropriate cable in USB slot. After that you have two solution, or you will open Ledger Live desktop app, or you will open Chrome and select Bitcoin Wallet App. It is a fairly simple process of several steps, where each step leads to the next, just follow the instructions. For more help just visit Ledger site : Ledger Support - Ledger Live desktop

Regarding Chrome apps, I know that Ledger Manager App is show nothing, it is just blank, no way to install or remove app from device. I did not try Bitcoin App, but Ledger still have both app on their page for download.

Before using Chrome be sure to update to latest version to fix exploit / vulnerability : Update Google Chrome now!

2.  I put a password on the ledger live app.  Can someone explain to me what i do when i connect my nano ledger s into my laptop and want to use it with ledger live?  I have not done this in a while and forgot the entire step by step process.
It's pretty easy, just like TryNinja said, don't worry about it too much.

To open the Ledger Live app you will need to enter your password.  After that connect your Nano S to your PC and enter your PIN. When you open the App it will show you your portfolio, its value and the different accounts/currencies you have connected to it.
If you want to Send/Receive Bitcoins you just click on the Receive/Send buttons from the Ledger Live Menu. Ledger Live will then ask you to open and connect to the corresponding wallet application on your Nano S and everything after that is up to you.
