I think your experience is related to the Ledger Wallet Bitcoin (Chrome App), where it was possible to see (and use) all the possible addresses generated by Ledger. This caused problems for some (and for me personally) because we used those deposit addresses, and Ledger did not check them, so all the funds that arrived at such addresses were completely invisible. The only way to fix this was to use Electrum and increase the gap limit by approximately 150 to 200 addresses.
As far as I know Ledger removed that option, so it is certainly not a problem that OP has.
Oh, I thought this problem was related to the GAP limit and as you said, the solution method was for Chrome App.
