so, what wallet would be best, and is it possible to have the device ask me for hardware button confirmation when i use the desktop wallet? i tried it on multibit HD but it doesnt ask for it, only when i use the ledger chrome app...

Ledger Nano S has only been available for a few weeks now and no desktop wallets are supported. You will have to use your Nano S with the Ledger Bitcoin and Ledger Ethereum apps for Chrome. You can also use the CoPay app for Chrome but not the desktop version see https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/4wcebx/ledger_nano_s_and_copay/ hope this helps.

Ledger nano S is designed to work with Ledger Wallet Bitcoin & Ethereum and Copay

As seen from here https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/12-ledger-nano-s I don't believe that the ledger nano S can be integrated in any desktop wallet and use its button to confirm a transaction.

To be more secure you probably should research about the 2FA instead of a third party hardware buttons.
