Hmmh...it should require a minimum of mem (blockchain is too big for most smartphones?) and minimum processing power to mine?

I'm sorry to have disturbed you, but there is a huge wave of immigrants, mostly from Syria, that arrive each day in Greece -my homeland- and all over the Europe and the nation-states seem as always unable to do anything else better than to collect taxes.

These, for example, are immigrants sleeping in the center of Athens in the Omonoia square: http://www.newsit.gr/ellada/Kampingk-i-Omonoia-Metanastes-estisan-antiskina-i-koimoyntai-sto-edafos-FOTO/417918.

Also, each day around 400 immigrants arrive in Greece in an uncontrolled manner: http://www.iefimerida.gr/news/201288/kymata-metanaston-katafthanoyn-apo-ta-nisia-stin-omonoia-kathe-mera-400-atoma-mpainoyn

Your country may be your worst enemy
I wanted to shock with my previous post, more seriously now, I don't think a new coin dedicated to immigrants would be a nice thing. When you're an immigrant, money's tight and you look for a real income, with hard currency, not some new and unproven electronic coin. Sorry to point it out, but when you arrive in a new country, you rarely get a good Internet connection, you can't use a smartphone because that requires a bank account to pay a subscription by direct debit, so all you want is cash.

Hard times. I'm glad they're over for me.

The bitcoin is transnational, so as the immigrants all over the world.

We can mine this altcoin (immigrant coin) and distribute it to the illegal immigrants.

It will surely have very high adoption rates.
illegal immigrants with good intensions you mean?

Great idea, we can call it "tickethome coin"

The coins are only redeemable for 1 way air tickets with an airline of their choice

"Come in free shitcoins for everyone!"

You want to create a sh*t coins?

Bitcoin is also can be owned for immigrants, don't use bitcoin/cryptocurrency for bad things like illegal immigrants.

It's a nice sentiment, however I'm not sure economic systems work when based on altruism. The problem I see is making the money work. Crypto-coins (blockchain based) require an input of expensive electricity and the capitol expense of hardware. Someone would either need to pay those miners for their expense or get them to donate hashes. The next problem is distribution. Who will get the coins? People you chose? How will they get them?
Finally, valuation. I could give these coins to the poor, but then what are they going to do with them? Without a certain level of adoption they have no value.

Perhaps there is a way forward in a closed economy? For example, if you could get some businesses to honor them as a type of donation then they could use the blockchain to get their tax break. A little like a more secure food stamp. Still, all this costs money and the first thing that would be needed is a lot of money.

Yes, I understand.

Despite of my solidarity thoughts about these poor people, the technology of Bitcoin is not something that can be imposed. It is an option.

I might be in a hurry for a better world.   Smiley

But, the question is how to create a community that sees value in this currency. For example, if there are 100% premined coins to be given away with a cheap smartphone and other solidarity actions that are covered by the media, then the immigrant coin can get value and make these people have something worthy in their pockets.

Let's pre-mine the coin, to make a huge profit when it's all hyped up, whilst we at it. ^joking^
Why do we need to exploit these poor immigrants, they have been floating and suffering between countries and now you want to label them, by grouping their currency?

How will this coin help them? Do not tell me that it would make remittance easier, because Bitcoin already fill that function for them. If you want to create something for immigrants, you have to make it attractive for them to use it over Bitcoin and other currencies.

Or let's not? Bitcoin is viable for immigrants too, assuming they want to put some effort into it like the rest of us.

Count me in! I'm proud to be the first in line!
I left the country of my birth 20 years ago, so you can send me your immigrant coin. Then, I can give you the names of some friends, there's a lot of us, you know.

By the way, if your new coin isn't ready yet, I can also accept BTC for a while. You'll find my address in my profile.

The hype behind the movement is the best valuation.

They will be purchased by their relatives in their birthplaces and by investors who will see value in the currency.

Because immigrants have no country and that means no official currency.

And what will be the basis of it's value? Bitcoin are purchased with other currencies and that establishes a valuation. But if you give them away why would someone accept them in trade for something of value?
