With VAR, the game is now more "fair" but it is too distracting. It's so annoying since it messes up the flow of the game, the concentration, and the emotion within the game. I'd rather see matches without VAR if they can't make it real-time enough. IMO the field referee doesn't have to see the display, he can just hear the advice of the "replay referee" and just act based on the suggestion. The decision is then final...
Even when watching the VAR, the refs make the wrong decisions...

It’s so frustrating, especially when they get the wrong decision, even when they have the tech to eradicate human error.

What would be much better would be like in rugby, if the referee has a microphone so we can hear his duscussion with the video officials.

Of today's referees, I can't even single out anyone, as well as the players, I think the best era of soccer is the beginning of 2000.

Collina was great, the players respected him & would rarely argue his decisions too much. The standard of refereeing now is awful, especially in the PL. VAR has made it no better at all, arguably it’s made it worse because they have the tech now to do it right but still do it wrong.

Something needs to be done.

This man should be a professor of refereeing in top schools in the world. In my estimation, he is the world's most objective referee. He is in charge and in control of every game with depth. He can't be compared to the poor power hungry referees we see right now. Does anyone remember the moment Pierluigi Collina changed shirts with David Beckham at the 2002 World Cup?

I would like to bring in not a good and legendary referee, but an infamous one in the history of the football.

Byron Moreno (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byron_Moreno)

Very hated referee in Latin America, because his decisions during important matches even in world cups, giving penalties to players who seemed not to deserve it and giving extra time out of proportion.

Interestingly enough, after his career as referee had ended he decided to try his luck in the profitable market of drug trafficking by trying to smuggle Heroine into the United States of America.
He pleaded guilty, spent some time in prison before being sent back to his motherland (Ecuador).

The man's a legend. I binged watched lots of moments with this guy and all I can say is that referees should try and emulate his passion for the game. He may be ruthless on the field and look terrifying at all times, but you can see and feel that he is this way in order for the players to maintain a clean game at all times and respect each other and of course, the ref's decision.

Also, I don't think this man ever committed wrong calls at all. He is revered by a lot of fans and players for years for his fairness and love for the sport.

The legendary referee Pierluigi Collina
The only referee who had the VAR in his eyes..
This referee could communicate in 4 languages on the field (French, Spanish, Italian and English).
Before each game, he studied the game and the players of the teams he would lead and learn the names of the players.
During the 2002 World Cup Final in Japan, Ronaldo gave him his shirt and the ball.
The players from Brazil and Germany have congratulated him on his performance. He was ruthless with his cardboard, charismatic and respected. Footballers had huge respect for him and even fear, just by his presence. This is also the only ref who has been on a video game jacket.
