My dear lugash3, I find comfort in the fact that in-spite of my newbie, and self-admitted ignorant status that the very idea of Bitcoin is so dangerous to you, that you feel compelled to post a rant against it.  If someone as powerless as I evokes your fear, Bitcoin must be more powerful than I thought!  Thank you.

Oh come on gortonc why shall we give a helping hand to bitcoin like it is just a highly volatile currency I have ever seen 1 day it’s above 1000USD while other day its worth is slashed to less than 500USD. Bitcoin is a simple joke which shall doom without my hand at least. If you need to sink then hold bitcoin tightly.

You know what... no one was complaining when BTC went from $15 to $250. And no one was complaining when it went up from $70 to $1,200. Then why blame it when it declines from $1,200 to $480?

Volatility is really a bad thing. But merchants can avoid this problem by immediately converting the BTCs to USD or any other fiat currency.

If I had a lot of bitcoins I would absolutely get involved in this big time. Imagine the headlines if bitcoin helps transform this community from impoverished to economically vibrant, which I am sure would happen if a moderate number of bitcoins were invested intelligently over a period of time.

Seems to me like this is a great opportunity for some deep pockets (and some not so deep) to step up and lend a helping hand--both with coins, and with tech and legal counsel.

While the U.S. doesn't have a very good track record of honoring its treaties with these folks, (and I doubt the treaties cover currency authority) it should make for a great fight.
