Uh, I have to kinda agree that donating bitcoins is kinda weird. I would feel like we are trying to profit off their tragedy by trying to throw the word "bitcoin" into the discussion about their tragedy. Because really- we are the ones that profit from the exposure, and all they get is a couple bitcoins. :-/

I'm actually inclined to agree with this.  A couple of other online communities to which I belong looked into this yesterday.  The "hero" who rescued the women has publicly said he wants any reward to which he's entitled to be given to the young women.  From what has been posted elsewhere, it sounds like they'll be entitled to a lot of ongoing psychological support for which they will not have to pay.

Financially, everyone and their dog is going to be offering them money for interview, book deals and movie deals.

There's nothing wrong with a show of support, but I think it has to be something more meaningful - whether that's a big ass bunch of flowers or it's using Bitcoin to pay for a few nights accommodation somewhere so they can get away from the media frenzy with their families (likely their biggest immediate need of all right now).  Hell, even a donation to the service which was set up by Elizabeth Smart would have more meaning and be more useful than "lets throw money at these young women".
I thought donating was a good idea because people from all over the world can chip in. bitcoin perfect for this sort of thing.
yes maybe everyone donating to something else for them is a better option but i want to try and do something.

RUM AND CARROTS: A PIRATE LIFE FOR ME
I'm sure the victims need support, but why do they need money ?
The guy that freed the victims has done something great and courageous, but why does he need money?

If they don't need money, I don't see the point of donating to them, better donate to someone or an organization that actually needs money.

Unless they really do need money ?

Are you kidding?
Ill donate the first few bitcoin. If you feel they don't need help and support all of witch money can bring then don't donate. Don't come on here and throw your selfish excuses here and try to destroy something good.
Please don't continue trying to stop me from getting something going to help these victims by posting bs.

I will put up 2 bitcoins to this cause.

Yeah. There are people that will literally die without charity - but these unfortunate women are not one of them. Their lives are not in danger.
Maybe donate to starving people in Africa instead ?

I want to put together something so everyone can donate to the Cleveland kidnap victims and the guy who found them.
This Is a great cause and it would show how the bitcoin community is a good one and how bitcoin can be extremely useful for this sort of thing.

How can we do this so it can't be scammed and the girls actually get the bitcoins.
any idea's?
