I sold most of my bitcoins for alt coins and made far more money than I would have done by holding bitcoin alone. I don't know why there is such a strong hatred for alts at least those not constantly pumping. I think the people advocating selling for fiat after every dip are worse than people who want to discuss other coins - why don't you move those to a fiat sub somewhere?
... since there is so many disturbing posts about alt-sheit in bitcoin forums i think it is time to fight back and invade altcoin forums with bitcoin discussion ---

Bitcoin often gets mentioned in this section. Try that in the Bitcoinsection and the snobby idiots there run you out of town. Alt coins have a relationship to Bitcoin and visa Versa. I started a discussion that was clearly about Bitcoin once and got moved cause it included a small element of alt coins. Grow up Bitcoin section noobs.

Plenty people mine alts to get BTC. With the exception of a few coins, that's what I do.
In other a related note, you brought part of this upon yourselves when you rushed to BFL ASIC pre-orders last spring and summer, escalated the arms race and move Bitcoin mining away from the rest of us, so GPU miners went to litecoin and then further to many clones. It's not always "someone else who's to blame".
I don't have any bitcoins. Trying to get lucky in the alt coin casino...
