Facebook is too low in the food chain to want to want to dominate the world financial system, there are many big companies that would propose this and won't have any trouble. What I feel is just that Facebook just want to have a piece of the cake, though time will tell if this would be a success

I can relate with the poster but it is absolutely impossible, crypto is very volatile and not everyone may buy into it, you may find out that more than 80% of Facebook users are not aware of crypto or may not be interested. I am particularly worried about their domination in the crypto space and buying up every seemingly competitor, they would have done so to bitcoin by the time they join if bitcoin wasn't decentralized

They will be aware of the new method of payment - the advertisement is the stuff which is loved by facebook so very much! Therefore, even if they avoid ads and any crypto news, they will be involved in all this stuff. Libra can become a very good alternative method not only to pay online but to save your money from inflation which will attract many people.

Is Libra the first step for Facebook to take control of the world?

Lets think about the facts:
- Facebook has 1/3 of the world as its user base (2.4 billion users)
- Libra coin will be very easily accessible to all of facebooks users
- Libra coin will be a stable coin, price will not fluctuate providing users in 3rd world countries with a medium to store their wealth.

There are already countries (like venezuela) where a national financial crisis caused fiat money to lose all worth. In desperation people are moving their life savings to bitcoin... Considering that bitcoin is a hard resource for the average person to use, imagine how quick adoption of Libra will be. Libra will be available to use on every cheap smartphone. Developed by Facebook it is sure to be a very user friendly experience, everyone will be able to use Libra. People will use it like real money in every possible way through things like facebook messenger, online shops, international transfers, peer to peer transfers...

Facebook has penetrated our lives in almost all possible ways; relationships, news, entertainment, social gatherings, advertising... the list goes on. The only thing facebook still doesn't have control over is our money. Here comes Libra...

The snowball is rolling, it can not be stopped.

Imagine the world in 20, maybe 50 years.

With the addition of Libra, and a very smart plan for user adoption Facebook can rise to a position of such great power, that it will be in control of the whole world.

If Libra is officially established by the US government and other countries agree. It will affect all existing banks and financial corporations. That will affect a lot of companies and even a nation's finances. I don't think Libra will be accepted early this year

It depends on what Facebook has in mind. If they want to use Libra as virtual currency (which they will since it is meant to be a stable coin), then it is more likely that way around.
So much news on this project and it seems to me that he will not enter the cryptocurrency market for at least 2 years. All this is so far within the discussion.

I am sure that things will be quiet soon. I expect that the concerns and conversation will be revived when LIBRA is actually launched.
It's not until US will agree with the launch of libra, as the country that has very big domination to the world and US consideration means a lot for the future of libra. It will not be quiet until there will be an approval but facebook must try to give more effort to achieve it.

It if could be the strategy to dominate the world finance and financial markets. Facebook’s Libra is going to outshine every company like PayPal and WU when it comes to user base or consumer satisfaction by charging mind-blowing low prices per transaction. We are yet to see its impact on the market but yeah, it is one wise move by the company.

There are really no two ways about it but to stop Libra coin from launching else with the assets at the disposal of Facebook which includes a massive trustful community, its only but time before Facebook users commence full banking activities on the Libra blockchain.

But what can be done to stop it? There is so much money being pumped into this development, and so many partnerships...

I think even the US government is pretty much powerless.

man I just had this conversation with friends the other day. at least there are crypto OGs like David Chaum who have been saying it all along and still in it for the fight

Great friends you got, I tried to bring this up too buy my friends were not so interested haha Smiley

we still don't not know whether Libra can be a big coin that competes with other coins, but I think Libra will quickly become popular on Facebook's social media because Libra is part of the biggest social media today that's is Facebook. if this coin has been launched in next year and has a positive impact on the crypto world, then I want to invest in Libra in the future.
For its influence and popularity in the society already, it will sure step on the toes of so many coins because it will be widely accepted, as long as it has a function that is needed by the world out there, and even if it is a centralized coins, it is not every one of us that have the same mentality or strict policy.

There are still so many people that does not care whether a system is decentralized or not, provided it can be fully used to solve any challenge that such user has, so Facebook will surely lead so many other products that we see, and this may even make some of them become shitcoins when people would no longer pay attention to them. The only coins that I am so certain of Libra coin not affecting is Bitcoin.

Wow does this mean Facebook will have its own army or a head of state and function just like a sovereign country, that's too far out, Facebook is internet based government can control the internet and don't allow to broadcast in their own country, don't be too delusional that Facebook will dominate the world.

Not trying to be hurtful or anything, but I think it is impossible to say what the world will look like in 50 years time. Saying that a company won't be able to do something is almost like saying that aliens don't exist Smiley

I don't mean to be a prophet making conspiracy theories about world domination, I just think it is a nice topic to discuss. It is certainly possible!!

I think so. Because Facebook currently has about 2 billion users. If the Libra becomes a reality, it will threaten the world banking system. And now the US Congress is afraid of Facebook manipulating the global currency. So they pressured to delay the launch of the Libra. But I think with the trend of not using cash to pay for goods, eventually the Libra is still released. Then the BTC price will increase tremendously !!

I think Libra coin launched by Facebook is part of the business strategy. With many Facebook members, the chances of Libra coins used by Facebook users will be even greater and investors' perceptions of Facebook will be even better

That is without a doubt true, just imagine how the Facebook shares will soar when LIBRA kicks off.

If payments are made with LIBRA through the facebook platform, then facebook's advertising platform will be even more effective. Facebook will have so much data, and will know exactly what kind of advert will get us to make a purchase.

Till this date they never know if you actually make a purchase, but LIBRA will give them all this information.

No matter how you look at it LIBRA is a great move from facebook. I am just a little worried that it is going to be too much power for one entity.

Libra can really make big changes to the global financial system in the future! And the main thing is not even the fact that Facebook has a huge audience of users, but the fact that most huge corporations cooperate with this company, where it will be possible to introduce Libra as a means of payments, which means everyone will use cryptocurrency!

Libra cannot be volatile as it's a stable coin, if we are believing that Libra will dominate the world, it could also dominate the crypto world and we are allowing a stable coin to dominate when the nature of crypto is suppose to be volatile which is originated by bitcoin which is currently the most popular now.

I also don’t know the future of Libra and that’s why I don’t want to listen to any speculation not until the release of this coin in the market. Its hard to predict a coin without any working technology, or else its a pure hype. Libra can become a big coin, but we still not sure if Libra can run for long term.

With it's big partnerships and big investors, even it was not launch yet, we can already conclude that they are a big coin, so prepare for that.
Personally, I'm not investing on it yet but I might be using the platform, my investment for now focus on bitcoin and other major altcoins and I know Libra is a big boost on the market.

I don't think so, do you think every government in this world would want their country to be controlled even in part by Mark Zuckerberg they will do everything in power to do that China and Russian have their social media site so they present something to their citizen to replace Facebook.

There's a lot of conspiracies and speculations around about what the real purpose of Facebook launching its own token. However, we have a lot of conspiracies in the past, just like "Jewish Rothschild", supposedly New World Order. But so far we haven't felt it, at least in my part of the globe. So I don't think that Facebook can't do it as well and won't achieved this goal, that is if they have plan this so called 'world domination'.
Of course, everything can be, especially in terms of the world financial domination of the Jews or some kind of shadow government. If users of the Libra coin in some cases pass KYC checks, Facebook will have almost all the information about its users. By itself, the smartphone allows you to collect a lot of information about its owner, and if it is still linked to our financial calculations, the information about us will be almost complete. It remains to read our thoughts and control them. Then the last stage of our control will be completed.

99% people  here uneducated in simple things in life not talking about complex things which they far away from understanding this....but in order to answer you this so you will know what wait us in the future without predicting and be sure we need to dive deep from where bitcoin come...

LETS GO..
bitcoin come from peer to peer file sharing with twist called blockchain.
now why peer to peer file sharing(decentralized tech) was burn because before this there was centrelized tech which mean there was few main servers that hold all the info like movies,mp3,software and computers around the world was downloading from this main servers without be depending on each other, what happen is the governmnets pretty fast locate this servers and shut down them.

then people became more smart

and build decentralized=peer to peer file sharing which mean our private computers are the servers, for example computer A download from computer B and computer B upload something to computer Z and so on...

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer protocol, which means that the computers in a BitTorrent “swarm” (a group of computers downloading and uploading the same torrent) transfer data between each other without the need for a central server.

now the governmnet need to shut down more then 500 million private computers and its impossible ,,its called decentralized tech.

now bitcoin is peer to peer money and not file sharing compare to libra project which is centerlized tech and decentralized tech always win...

libra is not threat and will be huge failure for sure its stable coin.

stable coin its not investment its exchange nothing more because the price dont grow its like to exchange usd to euro nothing more but even more
libra stable coins its not real crypto stable coin its centralized and control by facebook ...real crypto its mean its peer to peer money and no central control exist and no body can lock your account or other shit

so fucking simple...

decentralized tech mixed with distributed tech will eat the entire system like peer to peer file sharing it cannot go the other way,

To run it, you need thousands of permissions, I do not think that even such a company will do it easily and quickly. In addition, I bypass her at all, it is not confidential, it is not safe, and I agree that such things are being done to capture most of the people under their control. Mark Zuckerberg with his support for gays, and most of his ideas are simply one of those who are at the helm and killing society.
I also think that this is only the first application for such a large technological progress. It seems to me that even to Ethereum it will be very difficult to do.
As long as we have the regulators to oversee the facebook or Libra, things will be safe for us.
We have submitted already with them when we use the facebook and we are with the terms of the company, so with Libra, it's not new as we know we can trust them and we know how strong the regulation is in their jurisdiction.

only dumb people buy stable coins smart investors stay away....why?

because when you buy stable coin you really exchange money and not invest because the price will not grow very simple....its like to exchange usd to euro its not investment ...very simple, and if you exchange money to something stable it will be gold/diamonds rather then shitty stable coin

even more , libra its not real stable crypto coin i just fucking lazy to explain this but its not crypto coin ask expert blockchain!

Libra will definitely have mass adaptation. Since so many users already using Facebook and this coin will be accessible to every user. But the point made by DarkDays is good, that many people just because of Libra will come to know more about the crypto market and will eventually realise that BTC is the real king. They may then drop Libra because Libra is a stable coin. People will have chances of gaining something out of their stored money if they invest it in BTC or some other Alt. With Libra, people will soon realise that their money is just stagnant at one point.

It's not funny but I joke about this all the time. It is definitely a scary thing to think about but I also do not think we are entirely doomed because we have proactive leaders focusing on privacy such as David Chaum who has seen the evolution of it all since the 80s

Good thread opening

"- Libra coin will be a stable coin, price will not fluctuate providing users in 3rd world countries with a medium to store their wealth."
Libra's value will be stable just as long as the currencies' value backing it up will be stable.

Don't underestimate the monetary disruptive power of the Central Banks!

Users will later be able to facilitate money transfer without having to open a banking application that is currently still being done. they can send messages as usual and also send money. This is not only Facebook that takes part in funding but many business giants also support it

Let's hope the best because still, a lot of information to be released in the coming and we should get into conclusion but really it will explode the market and this is one indication in future many potential will take chances to launch beneficial coins to people and to the companies instead of scams we are seeing now.

I think it's not too good. how can you make predictions that the Libra can control and dominate the world?
I am not too sure about that.
this is just a prediction but remember people is very familiar with the big companies wanna do domination and that's why he was creating a pre-assumption about what will be the main target for libra coin.
We can't create a good prediction until the whitepaper of libra will be rolling out in the future

I doubt just because facebook will have Libra it will turn into world domination. This is not some movie where people are fighting to have world domination by evil guy but heroes come in and save the day.

When a rich person does something they do it for only one reason and one reason only and that is to make even more money than they have, nothing else. They want the power and they want to have the ability to be truly free, as in literally kill someone if they have to and get away with it (don't assume its weird, third world country dictators do it all the time).

So, facebook and mark will have libra and more power over more people thanks to it but they don't want world domination, they don't want to control the world, they only want to be not controlled by the world that's all.

LIBRA will surely be a big thing that will happen to cryptocurrency world but I will rather see Libra as a step to wider adoption of cryptocurrency rather than total domination. Facebook has approximately 2.4 billion users and with the lauch of its own coin I believe this will bring more people into crypto world.

In my opinion people are really giving this coin attention more than it needs, sure all the OP said is true and that Facebook has a large user base but think why the average person would use it, sure many people might give it a try once or twice since it is there but a predict that the majority will fell like it is not something for them and the popularity of it will go down, either way the coin that will facebook make will be a changing point and it will make and break what will the future of crypto, because if it is successful other companies will do the same

I don't think Facebook Coin purpose is to control the world and base in group that develop this then i think they create this for convenience

So example we know fb have many application so think if we can apply cryptocurrency like we can use this to earn,to gamble then to promote some services and actually that can really happen because all people worldwide think money,Moreover if they control world like in bad ways then many will against in this like they will stop this

Libra will undoubtedly be big, but it's still just a watered down version of Bitcoin.

As people invest in Libra, they'll gradually gain awareness of the entire cryptocurrency market, and will inevitably find that Bitcoin is the superior option.

However, if Facebook manage to make Libra available to spend in as many places as Visa, then it could be absolutely huge.

I love this part that Libra will open more people up into getting aware about crypto. I think that's a boost already, if it turns out well. Though i still Libra will be a deserved competitor to Bitcoin's hegemonic prowess

They have that billion of users but take into consideration that not even majority of the total users will use the Libra platform, that's just my estimate and I think people tend to forget that Libra is payment system and not everyone is a potential users of the said platform.

Billions of users is for sure a huge overestimation,,, 100%. Even if there are 1 billion Facebook users, I guarantee 20% of thereof are either fake users of users who are leaving FB, and who hate crypto. So if they can convince 80% to use Libra that will be more than anyone can expect.

800 million Libra users is impossible. How many FB people do you know even used Facebook wallets?

Lol, Libra is centralized and how  would you generate income with stable coin? Facebook has all your personal information, it's worst than a KYC.

exactly the point there, its a stablecoin yet a platform. you can definitely make more money if you hold more libra token to trade. if say those partners of them are going to soon tokenized their company you can trade it with these tokens. i see more companies going to be joining facebook when this is going to work out. and they will definitely work this out. i'm only seeing an exchange manged backed by facebook.

It will not repeat the fate of Bitcoin, since the currency will be controlled by the corporation and the state. Bitcoin is why popular, as it is possible to make anonymous transfers to pass sanctions from different countries.

Your arguments make sense but you simply overestimate the possible consequences in my opinion. Facebook has a power to rule the social media pages and users, it doesn't make sense for average guy to get known by Facebook management. Libra will be drop on the ocean, the mass adoption will use these type of available tools for understanding the power of real cryptocurrency.
And facebook will be doing it right now through use libra and remember not only facebook and the latest news comes from EU banks to create an instant payment system. Facebook was thinking to take this as the best chance to start makes domination in crypto.
But at the same time, there will be another competitor too that will make a competition for facebook.

The news and speculations that comes with Libra whether to the selfish interest of Facebook inc or not depends on how one  looks at this whole new coin with a strong community around it . Libra is a part of Facebook and I know Facebook has everything to make Libra be a big coin. But we cannot claim it too early about the impacts of this coin in the future. Libra must prove to people that it is a useful and valuable coin firstly. And we can see it after mass adoption occurs. So, just calm and no need for excessive thinking for now.
