Dude I was in china to meet with him.  All he had was a prototype case and a ZRT (panda) board in it.  This guy has nothing but a scam waiting for you.  He had some other wallet storage and stuff but no miners.

I don't know if LightningAsic is a scam or not, but nobody is shipping anything right now due to GPU supply constraints.  Even Pandaminer have stopped answering emails, their phone, and Facebook messages.

I like to think at least some know me on here and my word has a little merit hopefully.  Here is my story:

So I ordered units (panda miner type) he supposedly had in stock April 15th I sent him almost 70K down payment for 70 of them. I went to china to meet him in May and he shows me no production units, refuses to take me for factory tour and shows just a junk prototype and says there is a motherboard issue and they are delayed etc. Nothing but excuses. I knew for a fact there was no MB issues as I had visited the actual mfg facility the day before.  Today is June 11th and I finally got most of my $ back after showing him fake orders etc that I had in hand people waiting for 1000's of units. That way he was motivated by greed as an act of good faith to refund my initial deposit. I sent 68,750 total I got back 64,786 because of course he goes to the most expensive exchange and says that's the BTC rate. At least I got back most of my $ but DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DUDE HE IS A SCUMBAG SCAMMER.

He might have other stuff, but he don't have 8x miners, trust me.  I flew down to China to see with my own eyes.  I am damn lucky I got my $ back.

i would rather go with the lightning board if i can find 8 single slot cards. much neater and smaller package.

I heard the expansion cards work with Asrock H81 probtc.

several months ago i've tried the 1-to-3 multiplier, bought on ebay.
it works fine, mining with 3 nitro rx470.
the mainboard i use was biostar a68n-5000.
i think thats what the card do, multiply a mobo with only 1 or 2 slots.

with other mainboard such as gigabyte 5 slot it can work only 6 gpus.

That motherboard just looks like it was pulled from a pandaminer. You clearly could not fit two full sized cards next to each other on it with any space in between for airflow.

But the case is clearly custom....

So the board has to be longer to accept 8 cards, but you've already made a case that fits a panda board?

This also is not an ASIC...

and I, like many others, have doubts about running over 8 cards period.

An 8 card board would be great, but this is all sketchy AF to me.

if they would make this with a socketed cpu i would be all for it. throw in a "t" series intel cpu with an active heatsink/fan.

i just wonder if at some point the cpu would be too wimpy for some miner algos, especially if you add a 8 card expansion cage.

this mobo would be for the very long term, just upgrade vgas as needed. so upgradable cpu would be sweet and add to its useful life.

Watching the Photos and reading your post, I guess your offer is the following:

A PCIe Switch-USB PCIe Riser combo board

and

a Custom Motherboard based on some low-end SOC with 8x PCIe x16 slots and maybe a integrated PCIe switch.

What are the specifications from the Custom Motherboard I need to know before consider your product:

CPU/SOC: ?

Memory (RAM) on board or slots ?

Boot method: USB, DOM, Integrated DOM ?

Supported OS, is a custom-kernel OS provided (to deal the 8 GPU restriction)?

About the Switch-PCIe riser, more details about the card (actual PCIe lines in use, Supported OSs, etc).

I could order 150-300 from either solution (before qualification test - Barebones Boards Only, not interested on the "Case").

Guess i'll put a hold on to my project of re-doing my rigs with server PSU and pico's until this is available.

I have been very curious on these multiple-GPU systems. It is really interesting to understand the bottleneck. IMO, there is a protocol between CPU and PCI controller or switch on Mobo. Since end-user level mobos which we have shaved off some extra features. Like you said "tend to take shortcuts". I found some of your resources and they are very expensive. Then I found a server mobo that holds 2 CPU and 10 PCIe cards. I see that CPU is another factor to limit number of PCI. I assume that CPU, expensive PCI switch/controller, and lastly driver are all the bottleneck. BTW, server mobos are not cheap unfortunately.

Say you have 16 GPU system on a single mobo. You need :

16 x 100w per card = 1600watt minimum power supply for cards + 300watt for the mobo = 1900w-2000w power supply.

16 risers, long usb cables, long 6pin cables, a big frame to hold whole system. Plus, a long time to wait loading DAG file.

It looks to me a bulk system that will give an issue easily. A lot of parameters on a single system. Not trusty. It looks good sliced in pieces like 7-6 GPU systems.

Bottomline it is another technology to discover and taste. It is not cheap and easy to digest. Good luck and thanks for supporting community.
   

I can share you some of my observations, because I am working on a project to get 8+ GPUs into same machine.

I have also contacted several manufacturers that are creating pcie expansion backplanes, such as:

Out of curiosity, I also ordered that cheap 30 USD 1x to 3x PCIe expansion that is being sold everywhere around. Tested on several various motherboards from low end to high end, it does NOT work!

Then I ordered backplane from amfeltec which has a PLX chip on. It works, no issues at all. But of course, these toys are not for mining. A very simple backplane that has only 4 slots (1x to 4x) costs around 500 USD. And here comes the trick; all ports on backplane works fine, you can put 4 cards on it and it will work, but the total number of GPUs in system matter. And the motherboard I used for testing this backplane supports only 6 GPUs. No matter where I insert 7th card, the system would not boot. This indicate that the real issue is in BIOS and it is not a hardware problem.

I also sent query to the companies listed above asking about motherboard compatibility. I was specifically asking whether an Asus X99-E-10G WS (a 500 USD worth motherboard) would work. Their response was:

Bottom line is this; forget about these cheap expansions methods. Even if they work, your motherboard probably will not support it. Cheap motherboards tend to take shortcuts, which would explain everything. If you really want a solution, you will first need pro expensive motherboard. After that, you will need even more expensive expansion backplane. The only pcie switching chips that actually work are PLX and these chips are EXPENSIVE. Ever wondered why motherboards that support 4way CF/SLI are so expensive? Because they pack one or two PLX chips that cost 100 USD a piece. And forget about cheap chinese shit (just look at that 1x to 3x PCIe expansion board, it has some cheap chinese chip on top of it, no wonder it doesn't work). It is also highly unlikely that some chinese company would come out with their own designed motherboard; we all know that all they do is just copy and copy from west world and are incapable of designing stuff on their own.

I have been told by the op I would need to wait  more then a month  and less then  six months to get them.

I am 95% sure the eight slot mobo's will work fine.

I personally have 0 interest in the  16 or 24 or 32 card options.

But I would love to have the 8 slot mobo's.

My solar array will be reworked for the summertime and I could use the 8 slot mobos yesterday not 1 to 6 months from now.

I have no need for anything but the mobo's

As I could do 8 card  nvidia 1070 builds easy

or do 4 card nvidia 1080 ti builds easy with an eight slot board.

So do not look for these  as barebones any time soon.

i think most of us would be pretty happy to get the board only for 8 GPU. one can build wonderful rigs with such kind of a platform.
but to be honest, the website is a piece of junk. we need some1 to test this board and seller and confirm if they r eligliable.

this is not the board where you put the gpu this is just a expansion slot card that you connect your gpu to, this board will be put in the motherboard, but you need a otherboard that support 8 gpu or more, or this is useless

If you can work for 8 GPUs, please check your BIOS, it must have Above 4G decoding option.

I have a gpu in mind to use on the eight slot board. it is a thin 1070 from nvidia 1 slot wide.

Hello, I see your results.

1. The card is a PCIE switch using the PEX8614 chip, which costs about $ 40.
2. And can only work in PCIE 2.0 4X to 8 PCIE 2.0 1X modes. Because the PEX8614 can only support up to 12 PCIE LANEs and 12 PCIE Ports (1 INPUT and 8 OUTPUT). And your design forgets to use GPIO to configure troubleshooting. So you can not work in PCIE 16X mode.
3. More than six new GPUs in a system (old GPU, such as 7870 it can work 12 because it only needs half the resources), you need to configure the BIOS MMIO, usually its BIOS option is Above 4G Decoding The
4. Most motherboards can support more than eight GPUs, but you need non-standard BIOS. Such as Panda's custom motherboards using the X79 BIOS, add Haswell CPU microcode support to get the Above 4G Decoding option.
5. The AMD driver does not support more than eight GPUs in an OS. If you want to make a 16 / 32GPU system. You must use Intel VT-D and SR-IOV technology, and through virtualization to achieve. Or you customize an AMD driver (but it is very difficult).
6. So on the lightning miners can make more than 8GPU system, I think this is not possible, because you do not understand how to achieve. You just made a PCIE switch card, it's very simple.

How much is going to cost that x16 to 8 usb riser expansion card? Im really interested into buying one of those now.

It could be great to simplify building a miner. Cheaper versions with 4 or 6 ports could be also great for older boards with resource limits.

I am interested ... but concern on the power consumption and heat generated. It would be a good idea as instead of powering 32 risers, you only need to powered up 1 riser. Instead of 32 x 30 = 960 watt its only 180w to 300w. I think it works that way.

I am definately interested as i am growing my fourth farm and like to explore your tech.

If you use powered risers and extra power, there is no such problem.

This is all very interesting, but what will it actually run on? I don't think there is a moherboard in existence that has enough PCIe lanes for 32 GPU (or even 16). Maybe some huge server mobo that google would use for its A.I. research but that would either be custom design stuff, or cost $10000.

I appreciate the confidence you have in my knowledge (makes me feel good).  I must disagree with you on this one, although I could be wrong.  The real limits are the mobo BIOS and not the drivers per se.  jstefanop is probably better to answer this question than I am since he has been in direct contact with Greg Stoner from AMD but here is a quote from Greg

"It does not matter if you have the all the cards on single CPU with 16 GPU’s ( You will need multilevel PLX switches)  or two CPU with 8 GPU’s.   On 2P system the critical issue is the system bios need have enough PCIe resources for Doorbell BAR, IO BAR, MMIO BAR and Expansion ROM.    One thing beyond 16 GPU’s you heading into new world for both AMD and NVIDIA."

I have posted a link to this thread from jstefanop and Greg Stoner previously and if anyone is interested I will post it again, it is about running greater than 8 gpu's per rig.  It is a great read.

Since I am not familiar with the custom motherboards that Panda or Lightening are using and I have not peaked at the BIOS from them either I cannot say how it is set up.

On a side note, I have been in discussions to have a 12 and/or 16 GPU mobo manufactured and there has not been any issues per the engineers at the manufacturer as long as the mobo doesn't have unnecessary crap on it.

It won't be compatable with any current off the shelf MB, it's just a switch (like the 3 port one that's been around forever...this just has 8 ). I was thinking of going this route with my 16 gpu solution, but the switch aspect is only half the story. You need a motherboard that can actually handle more than 6-8 GPUs

So beware if you think you can buy this and magically post more than 8 GPUs on off the shelf current gen mothboards most of you use for GPU mining.

will you sell one or two barebones or do we have to buy 5 to 10 ? . if we can only Afford one or two  ? . most mine at home that use GPU's and some have big farms in there homes with GPU, sense it is cheaper and better to mine in your home still, just not mining BTC any more unless you got big bucks for BTC mining in the home ...

ID rather have the add on board, if it works like you say and Build my own frame around one .... and put my 10 gpu in one frame , i buy about one GPU a month and slowly building my home farm ...

i don't think any motherboard currently can handle so many gpu without burning the 24 pin, it's a problem of maximum voltage, but i see they have their own motherboard design with the thunder that cna support 8 gpu and more

Like panda mainboard should have a PCIe switch that supports more than 8GPUs. IMO, there is a bottleneck on designing multi gpu platform. Bus speed, CPU, power etc...

I think with the 32XGPU you would have multiple mini motherboards and it would just be put inside one case.

Also, feeling the need to mention that you won't get 8 GPUs running at x16 speed, natively.

To put this into perspective - 32 GPUs running at 16X is 512 GB/s.

No CPU that exists has 512 PCIe Lanes. An E5 has 40. If you used two of those CPU's, you'd need 28 PCIe switches. Huge cost; very unreliable.

8 GPUs running at 16X is 128GB/s. Also expensive.

all depends on price. I remember, 3 years ago they were selling A2 scrypt miners with hashboards from Innosilicon, but they were a little bit cheaper than directly Innosilicon for small quantity.
Only delivery time was sometime problem - 3 weeks delay etc. But they always delivered it all in the end.

Well, for a start, both AMD and NVIDIA don't support 32 GPUs with their drivers. You'd need a custom driver - and I doubt you're going to give that technology to the masses, for free. What kind of mode are you running in? You'd need to use virtualization technology for anything above 8 GPU for AMD, 16 for NVIDIA - I might be wrong on the NVIDIA though ( they may only support 8 ).
