I believe it all  depends on what you want to achieve.
If trading is your goal by all means speculate! Anyone who is able to predict swings more than 50% of the time must make a fortune given the volatility.

Me and my better half bought a tiny amount of BTC because that was what we both agreed could be lost without affecting our life adversely.
When prices went up by 30% we bought a bit more for the parents.
BTC took something like a 40% price dump after that. The irony in it is that I would now buy a few BTC at an instant for that "high" price back then.

I am not looking to day trade nor am I interested in short term profit taking. I honestly believe in the technology behind bitcoin.
From a technical standpoint it is very elegant.

I find it amusing when people claim Bitcoin will fall to  x amount because thats more reasonable.
The reality is no one really knows what Bitcoin is or will be worth. This makes this whole thing so interesting.
Different people with different agendas worldwide participating in something new and exciting.

Oh, and I actually believe Bitcoin needs the volatility atm. Because that also attracts speculators and gamblers.

Then one needs to filter out the chaff from the measured opinions/estimations and after you got 90% of the members on this forum on ignore, you still have to be ready to form an outlook and then change it within a flash should circumstances demand it.
Absolutely.  And I congratulate you for doing well the last couple days.  But calling the people who called it wrong "nutters" sounds petty when things could have easily gone the other way.

Better still, I think it was rpetilia (or something) who predicted a crash back in to the $500 dollar ranges. His thread was in circulation just last week and he got the usual pelters from all the nutters.
My point is that there are crash predictions every day.  And when there finally is a downturn, everyone who posted a crash prediction in the past month chimes in with, "See!  I was right!"

I'll even go out on a limb and predict that Bitcoin will climb to $2000 and then have another crash.  All within the next 2 years.  Won't people feel stupid when my prediction comes true!

This.

What fascinates me is every day there are half a dozen posts predicting Bitcoin will crash and half a dozen posts predicting it will go "to the moon!".  And every once in a while when there is a spike or dip someone will scream, "See!  I told you so!  I predicted this!" even though the last 50 posts were wrong.

In other words, 90% of the posts on the speculation forum come out of people's asses.  Every once in a while someone takes the time to do some research and crunch some numbers, and those posts are what keep me coming back.  But not threads like this one who remind me of a child jumping up and down yelling, "I told you so!!!"

Whatever.

I was loaded up with BTC that cost me $1000 +

Against the sage advice of the majority on here, I sold them at between the $950 - $1000 level.

I was warned again by the sage members of this forum, that I would be buying back in at $1300. I said bullshit and posted my buy in plan, which had I left intact, would have done me good enough, but in reality, I did even better by taking out top $720 dollar buy in tranche and replacing it with a $600 buy in tranche.

Cos I never listened to the nutters, I am now loaded up with Bitcoin that cost me ~$640, as opposed to around ~$1000....Nice!

With that said, I am under no delusion that Bitcoin is out of the woods yet and lower lows could still be found through tonight and Sunday. But if we do go down to $300 - $400, then I will be able to bear it much better holding $600 coins than I would with $1000 coins.

Thank god I know not to listen to the NUTTERS.......both the bears and the bulls alike.

AFYI, I have been on this forum calling imminent crash practically on the eve of the past three crashes / mega corrections.

Yup!

Keep buying at any price and hold no matter what. If you don't you are a pussy and a traitor and Bitcoin doesn't need you.....or something like that.

“A decentralized registry for unique assets”
I use a Ouija board its the most effective tool out there.... You already know the way the market is about to go, you just need something to reassure you of the answer!

Like having fiat? No.
Like having Bitcoin? Yes.

It stands to reason that if all the "nutters" sold then Bitcoin would be going nowhere fast. You should thank the nutters, fiat nutter.

There is one constant here and that is that pretty much everyone be it bull or bear is making an educated guess and BTC just does whatever the fuck BTC wants do do :-P

Actually if your entry point really was 1k then I must say you had no clue that this was going to happen until the signs were clearer, upon which you took an educated guess.
Else why not just wait for that massive price drop and buy in then?

600 is a good entry price imho, not bad to do some orders above and maybe at 560.

Orders at 560 would take the ability to time travel.

Yes, I am gloating:

This was Bitcoin at $1000 instead of $1100. I had 17 Bitcoins and planned to sell 11 of them (and I did just that)

I have now entered at top of market and done quite well, although am losing now and selling at lower prices than I paid to limit damage.

Oh man I considered you to be smarter than that. You just never sell bitcoin cheaper than you bought it, because every dip is a temporary retrace. Your panic mode for bitcoin should mean "stop buying" and then when you think it stopped falling you start buying again. Any other way - and you are just robbing yourself. Can't stop you, of course, but sad to see.

And this was Bitcoin at $900, with things clearly looking very precarious:

May I just say, thank fk I know better than to listens to nutters like you!

Yes sir, I will keep my money and am looking forward to owning much more btc than I had, at yet lower prices.

It's your money and your way to lose them Smiley We'll talk again once you buy at 1300.

And my Retort:

LOL.

Can I ask a question?

How silly are you feeling right now?

Here sir, is downwards bidding plan:

OPEN ORDERS
Order type   Date and time   BTC amount   Bitcoin price
Buy   Dec. 6, 2013, 1:48 a.m.   5.00000000   $720.00   $3,600.00
Buy   Dec. 6, 2013, 8:19 a.m.   2.80000000   $680.00   $1,904.00
Buy   Dec. 6, 2013, 4:57 p.m.   3.00000000   $640.00   $1,920.00
Buy   Dec. 6, 2013, 7:01 p.m.   5.00000000   $620.00   $3,100.00

Bitstamp prices.

Now, I just hope that the CRASH isn't so brutal that I am the one who is left feeling very silly.

And actually, I bumped the 5*720 order away and replaced it with a 6*600 order.

Fortunately for me i have a thick enough skin not to be swayed the nutters on here, whether they be bears or bulls. I am now of course fully in Bitcoin (or as full as I can be) at firesale prices and am hoping for higher prices from here on out, but that dont mean that I am going to get them in the immediate future...this sucker could trend lower yet. Lets not kid ourselves on about that. Doesn't mean it will, but there is certainly the potential for this to happen.

Do your homework and most importantly, listen to your gut instinct. Plenty good advice to be found on this forum but you will have to be pretty busy with that 'ignore' button to filter out the piles of nonsense from the blow heads who have gotten rich through pure fluke/luck, but who consequently believe that they are very smart. They are not smart. An idiot could have seen this crash coming but the majority on here scathed people for selling or even suggesting it.
