One addition, you can use

sudo apt install nvidia-current

to install the current version and don't have to manually upgrade it everytime.

I'll suggest giving Ubuntu 16.04 a try as it will have a better community support for your issues.
Anyway, there is plenty of custom Linux firmwares built for mining such as nvOC for Nvidia, Give it a try.

Having trouble getting nvidia drivers installed on Ubuntu 18.05. Tried damn near everything but when i look at my cards, i'm not showing the nvidia drivers installed. Are there any good tutorials out there for getting them installed?
