About 11 months have since passed, so I decided to update these statistics. As far as I can see, the vast majority of banned users are newbies. I guess most of them were automatic bots spamming on the forum.

@Coin-1: this is going to mess up your totals for the past 6 months Tongue

Yes, OmegaStarScream's update could cause a huge spike in these totals. But I would make an announcement here to explain why the numbers have increased drastically.

Update:
I removed this list 5 days later, because it was "for Mod eyes only".

To be honest, I wasn't late in downloading the full version of the "banned.txt" file. It contains 613406 (!) user IDs. As soon as I saw that satoshi was crossed out in one of my statistical threads, I simply created a new file named "blocked.txt" and wrote down his user ID there. Perhaps it is needed to manually exclude all VIP members and other respectable persons from the full list of banned users and add the rest of the users to the standard version of the "banned.txt" file.

if you used this list, and I'll be scrapping users starting from userID 940,001 (registered in January 2017), then I might end up with a similar list?
Those users were banned 3 years ago already, since then many other older users might have been banned too.

Also, do you happen to know when did Vod start to keep track of banned accounts (I'm referring to the list he gave you)?
I'm not sure when @Vod started keeping track.

Thank you very much for this list!

You're most welcome. I could go through more accounts if you'd like? I was thinking of doing the same thing as I did before, except this time, I will save the ones that were last active before Q1/Q2 2018.

EDIT: Hmm. Not sure if that's going to be helpful though, because if you used this list, and I'll be scrapping users starting from userID 940,001 (registered in January 2017), then I might end up with a similar list? I will no longer keep separate lists for "Autobanned" and "Nuked" accounts. This means I'll remove 2a and 2b. 2c will become the new "2".
For machine processing:
2a. http://loyce.club/bans/Autobanned.txt (Autobanned userIDs).
Sample:
Code:
182
333
545
651
2b. http://loyce.club/bans/Nuked.txt (Nuked userIDs).
Sample:
Code:
8841
11570
12620
13359
2c. http://loyce.club/bans/banned.txt (2a and 2b combined)
I kept the older files:
https://loyce.club/bans/Autobanned.nomoreupdates.txt
https://loyce.club/bans/Nuked.nomoreupdates.txt

One more question though: does this classify as Autobanned, Nuked, or a combination of both?

Maybe I should forget about the separate list for Nuked accounts. Is anyone using that list?

It's a combination of both. I excluded proxybanned accounts from the lists, since that type of ban can be lifted after paying a fee.

Maybe I should forget about the separate list for Nuked accounts. Is anyone using that list?

You can easily tell if a banned account has been nuked or not by looking at the activity and postcount (both equal to 0) so putting everything into one list might be a good idea.

This is probably better in another thread;
But since we are discussing banned users. Has there ever been any reason given / discussion about not tagging banned users in their username?

A few of the other forums I am on do that.
Just to let people know that if they are PMing someone or responding to a post / waiting for a response from someone it's not going to happen.

The listed accounts are both banned and were last active prior to 2017 which means it's almost guaranteed that the bans are permanant, because it's very unlikely for an inactive user to get a ban (non-perma) for something he did a few years back.
Even if a few slipped through without ban, if they post again I'll remove them from my list.

Does that mean you (as a non-global Mod) can see they're banned, but it might be a temporary ban so you can't tell for sure? Or does it mean you've listed all accounts that were last active before 2017?

@LoyceV, I wanted to know if your ban list is updated
Yes, but it turns out i didn't remove him from usernames.txt. Pirate hunter wasn't on banned.html, Autobanned.txt, Nuked.txt or banned.txt. I also checked my local copies of modlog, and he didn't get banned after his last post.
My log shows this:
Code:
2019-12-31_Tue_23.57h
Removing userID: 2347750 from banned.html because they're posting and thus can't be banned

Quote
The username appears on your ban list: http://loyce.club/bans/usernames.txt
I think I fixed this bug already, but just didn't update usernames.txt yet. I've removed pirate hunter, and also the following user:
Code:
1772877: TotSamiy
If all works well, this shouldn't happen again for new unbans.

@LoyceV, I wanted to know if your ban list is updated and this profile was banned for the second time after being miraculously unbanned: pirate hunter because it was last active recently.

The username appears on your ban list: http://loyce.club/bans/usernames.txt but it's quite confusing when it comes to BPIP

Wow. I didn't check all the accounts, but all the MrFudged and KNC_areThief accounts I have checked, they were proxybanned.
VictimNo accounts had a double penalty: banned and proxybanned.

banned user who have very multiple account
victimNo has 357 alt account
MrFudged has 228 alt account
KNC_areThief has 187 alt account
Those are only the banned accounts (that I know of). There are much more accounts, I searched LoyceV's complete List of all Bitcointalk usernames for those usernames:
  • victimNo: 852 accounts
  • MrFudged: 13937 accounts
  • KNC_areThief: 9208 accounts

As far as I know accounts only get banned after spamming, so those inactive accounts are either waiting for a Units of Evil payment, or can still continue spamming at some point.

There are also many accounts with random names that all have the same website linked in their profile. It's been a while since I looked for those, but I remember many thousands of "backlinks" created that way.

Hi LoyceV,

I was trying to check out the controversial status of this user: pirate hunter. Apparently he was banned then unbanned under unknown circumstances.

When i checked on http://loyce.club

His name appears on usernames.TXT
But it does not appear on Autobanned.TXT and banned.TXT

So it is really confusing to know whether he has been banned again or is still unbanned.

BPIP.org isn't conclusive either;

Thank you for taking a closer look into this case.
I opened several topics regarding this, and so far none of the forum stuff/moderators replied, and it looks like they are the only ones who can give us the answer.

His last post was 2 days ago. His userID doesn't show on modlog, which means he hasn't been banned in the past 7 days. So he's not banned.

Thanks, I forgot to update usernames.txt for unbanned users. That should be fixed now. I noticed banned.html has a few more entries that it should, but I can't quickly figure out which ones are wrong. My script got a bit messy from the changes, so that's for another time.

I've manually removed the following 2 users:

I counted and saw 112 posts (of GP) deleted. The number of total deleted posts is 1345. 8.3% of total deleted posts belong to GP at December 04, 2019, 01:53:54 AM (forum time).
User game-protect is currently banned. Temporarily or not can say only global moderators.
With tem bans, users are still able to wear signature. It's clear that GP don't have permanent ban, but if he got temp banned, it will be his second time.

The details
1. Every day, I make a list of all users who made a post. I miss some, but scrape more than 99% of all posts.
2. I add all new bans from modlog to the Banned users list.
3. I remove all users who posted the previous day from the list.
This removed too many users from the list (see here). I'm not sure why yet, I'll look into this tomorrow.

Update: this should be okay again Smiley

160k trust ratings... well, you're either getting banned for trust spam or you'll force theymos' hand to make some changes Smiley
Don't scare me Cheesy You made me ask theymos:
Quote
does it cause problems to the forum if a user leaves feedback to 160,000 users?
It wouldn't significantly bloat the database or anything, but the userpage would definitely time out. Probably you shouldn't.
So this idea is off, Piggy's bot won't tag them.
Another topic made me realize this would now be possible again, since theymos added pagination to feedback changes when he introduced Trust flags.

@Piggy: Do you dare? Cheesy It would still be very nice feature to easily recognize most banned accounts.

Earlier today:
I got myself a brand new VPS, and my Trust Flag viewer is the first part of my useful data on Bitcointalk running from there instead of my laptop.

Now: My Banned users list is the second part that now runs on my VPS.
I'll run a daily cronjob at 12:33 AM (Amsterdam time). Depending on server load and number of new bans it'll take about 1.5 many hours to complete.
Quoting myself for this topic:
Quote
I'm still uploading the data to my "old" http://loyce.club/trust/flags/ host. I want to see how the VPS performs before I change that.

If anything doesn't work, please post here Smiley

I have a better plan (added to my Todo): I'll use my recent scraper, and remove any user who creates a new post. That should work for most unbanned users.
This is now implemented. It was a lot easier than I thought (sorry for waiting this long) Tongue

The details
1. Every day, I make a list of all users who made a post. I miss some, but scrape more than 99% of all posts.
2. I add all new bans from modlog to the Banned users list.
3. I remove all users who posted the previous day from the list.

This means that someone who posted yesterday and was banned today doesn't show up yet. Modlog shows data for the past 7 days, so this user will be added a day after he stopped posting.
If a ban is changed into a temporary ban, I can only know about it when the user can post again. He'll then be removed from the list at the next update.

True, but it's still better than overlooking the unbans entirely.
By the way, we should mark the day 09 May 2019 as important day to say one year anniversary of plagiarsim-finding bot next year. Furthermore, from 09 May 2020, there are so many permanent banned users whom got signature bans as alternative punishments will be fully back. There will be important day around 09 May 2020.
Yesterday, 400 users got banned. The day before, 300 users got banned.

I don't remember all recent unbanned cases, but most of them (as I remember) get at least 60 days of bans, simultaneously with year-ban of signature. Anyway, it is very creative idea to scrap data and automatically find wanted unbanned and reactive users. However, due to it is done automatically, so you surely can do this daily or weekly  (if you have time to click on Run button of your codes)

Global Mods have a new trick:
Global mods were given the ability to ban signatures only yesterday. Do you think we can get through all the appeals in one day? Be patient.

lovesmayfamilis' ban is now a temporary ban:
I changed the ban to 60 days and a signature ban of a year.

I have no way of tracing unbans other than manually removing them. Please report them here, with a reference link.
I've removed lovesmayfamilis from the list, but his initial ban is less than week old, and still shows up in Modlog, so it'll be added again in the next update. I'll have to check this next week.

I was wondering the exact same thing "how to find out which account is banned"?

This is literally a waste of time to report banned members.

Especially if somebody is dedicated and spent hours searching for forum abusers.

One will never know how much time it costs until he will try to report only 2000 or 3000 posts in a short amount of time (month or two).

Thanks, @LoyceV for this thread is really helpful.

According to bpip data, some users are already banned when recovered.
Judging by when they made their last post, they got banned recently, after their recovery. Most were recovered around the same time, so they might have been related.

Note that olcaytu2005 is banned on his request.

As always, you made a great job listing all the banned users in one reference. Indeed, i didn't notice this thread before.

According to bpip data, some users are already banned when recovered.
So as they are old accounts, i don't expect them to be in your list.

Here a list of them:

bpip FrankNoland  (Autobanned since 12/7/2018)
bpip AlexRus227  (Autobanned since 2/27/2019)

Unbanned account?

Psalmy2cute

I don't think the account get unban, even you saw it was last actively hours ago.
Even permanent banned accounts can get active status like this when accounts' owners try to log in and check their ban situation with hope to see their accounts unbanned.

For the account you pointed out, I guess that the owner simple logged in to check ban status hours ago, nothing more.
Please pay your attention from signature of the account, that has not shown by now.

I'd have thought it's a no brainer.
What's the reasoning behind not implementing it?
theymos has previously said "No" to "A publicly displayed 'banned' rank under a person's username for permabanned accounts" in this post: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.44432901, but he did not elaborate his reasoning.

I tend to agree actually. For the same reason we don't show trust on every board, because otherwise you would be biased against posts made by users with red trust when their trust is perhaps not relevant to the topic being discussed, seeing a BANNED tag under their name would similarly prejudice everyone against those posts. Being banned doesn't automatically invalidate everything the user has posted, and there have been a couple of high profile cases in which a good users with many great and helpful posts were banned for plagiarism.

What I would be in favor of is displaying a BANNED tag to top reporters, much as it is displayed to mods. I know I have wasted plenty of time investigating suspected plagiarism, only to discover the user was already banned anyway. Perhaps once you get 5000 good reports, you get to see banned users.

I'm surprised that when a user is banned it's not "scarlet lettered" BANNED on his/her profile (like in the spot where their rank would be posted).
It's been suggested before, but unfortunately wasn't implemented.

Probably the wrong place for this post but ........ I'm surprised that when a user is banned it's not "scarlet lettered" BANNED on his/her profile (like in the spot where their rank would be posted).  In the case of gift card scammers in Digital Goods section who have been banned their posts generally remain and since they were locked anyway they continue to scam on Telegram or whatever they were using..

This user is unbanned and will be removed in the next update:
904524: ChiBitCTy
Another user got unbanned:
389271: Limx Dev

I also hope Limx Dev can come back like this, but it seems unrealistic because his case is too different than ChiBitCTy.
I don't think he got a signature ban, and I think his ban for plagiarism was more or less a mistake.

Recently theymos said in suchmoon's thread:

16,224 sMerit is held by autobanned users (including the initial sMerit).

I downloaded the file "banned.txt" a few minutes ago and made the following statistics on banned users:

Total banned 172384 users:
  • 78 Legendaries (0.05%)
  • 273 Hero Members (0.16%)
  • 850 Sr. Members (0.49%)
  • 1873 Full Members (1.09%)
  • 3124 Members (1.81%)
  • 1373 Jr. Members (0.80%)
  • 164813 Newbies (95.61%)

Please note that these ranks are based on the merit amount regardless of current activity.

Total destroyed 633780 merits and 2829 earned sMerits.

It seems that another 13395 sMerits are initial sMerits which have been airdropped on the day the merit system was introduced.

It's not entirely clear why BCT admins do not provide this information, but I hope they will comply your request eventually.

New data
  • I received a list of banned users from suchmoon, starting mid-September.
  • I also found this List of Autobans created by botany, with data from the first 6 months of 2017. I'll add them now.
Update: another 7000+ accounts added to the list.

I downloaded your file "banned.txt" a few minutes ago. Thanks again for this big update.

Previously I used my own list of banned users made manually. It contains about 150 members. Now I've compared my list with your list.

2) hirozaki faraday

3) billsted86

Yes Sad
Data on banned users came from very recent and thus very incomplete saved versions of modlog.

According to BPIP, he/she is not banned just have a few deleted posts.
Vod also doesn't have data from earlier years.

Has anyone ever tried to list the signatures campaigns that those banned users where participating? It would be interesting to know which campaigns and which projects these users help promote. And even more important, who are the managers who hire these users ...

Top 10 most banned signatures in the last 4 months:

Semux (36 bans)
Securix (32)
Privcy (31)
Sidera (23)
Eloncity (21)
Buddy (15)
Sonder (13)
Mevu (12)
Kubitx (11)
Swipe (10)

Keep in mind that signatures get removed for permabanned users so this is not entirely accurate - I can only count it if I happened to fetch user info before the ban and it might have changed by the time ban occurred. And of course it doesn't tell you what signature the user was wearing when the offense was committed, which could have been months before the ban. However it's still a reasonable indication of which campaigns hire shitty posters.

Edit - top 10 personal texts (I broke the links intentionally):

dApps Development Automation Platform (23)
https: //eloncity.io/ (22)
One Token to Move Anything Anywhere (19)
https: //www.soar.earth/ (16)
Blockchain Just Entered The Real World (15)

After thinking this over a bit more: does this mean every forum page would require connecting to BPIP.org up to 20 times? If I understand the current extension correctly, it doesn't require anything from BPIP without clicking the link.

I don't know about the BPIP extension but technically it doesn't have to be 20 requests. It should be one request containing a list of user IDs, 20 or less because there can be duplicate users on the page and the ban status can be cached across pages as well.

Is adding "banned" status on banned member requires a lot of coding? If not, can theymos enable it? Or why don't he enable it already?
Not sure if this has been discussed before, I don't visit meta frequently and too lazy to search :/

Just imagine, if all the banned users would have a red "BANNED" text instead of the current rank...
The altcoin section would turn entirely red because of this Smiley I'm sure theymos don't want this, it would be really bad for the forum's reputation to see that banned users are discussing pages long....
It would be much less noticeable to just remove the 'Report to moderator' button for the banned ones and that won't disturb anybody, just help those who report posts... I'm not sure if this will be implemented anytime, but...
Hope springs eternal...

Maggiordomo has to wait 11 seconds. That's like an eternity for a bot Tongue I'm not sure if whitelisting would lower this.
The minimum (for 500+ Activity) is 4 seconds.

I was whitelisted before and I had 0 seconds waiting time, at least I could't go under 1 second for reporting but I did tried it while searching, double clicked the search button and did't got error message (if I remember correctly) , so I guess this will be a solution.
But there's a catch, if you rank up you are no longer whitelisted.

Several users (including me) have suggested to set the Rank to "banned" (oldest reference). It's not going to be implemented any time soon:
I'm not going to respond here in detail to all of these ideas. It'd be extremely long. I will classify them as OK/maybe/no:

• A publicly displayed 'banned' rank under a person's username for permabanned accounts (people are wasting both theirs and staffs time reporting already banned users and bots).
No. Or not yet. Or the idea would need to be significantly modified.

How long do I need to wait between forum posts?
Waiting time between forum posts is calculated with the following formula:
Code:
waittime = 360;
if(activity >= 15)
        waittime = (int)(90 - activity);
if(activity >= 60)
        waittime=(int)(34.7586 - (0.0793103 * activity));
if(activity >= 100)
        waittime = max((int)(14-(activity/50)), 4);

Can this list have a sidenote with the reason for the ban? This would help people to identify the reason. Just an idea. If there is a way to edit the list by others, it would be better.

Problem
Unlike Mods, users can't see if someone is banned. It's a waste of everyone's time to report plagiarism or other abuse if the user is banned already.

Solution
I made a list of as many banned accounts as possible. This is very useful for automated spam searching.
Vod gave me old data from modlog. I've added more data from Vod's site BPIP.org, archive.li and archive.org.

List of 159,302* banned users
For human processing: this list includes links to the full Merit history (if there is any), and profiles on BPIP:
1a. http://loyce.club/bans/banned.html (big file!).
Sample:
Quote
    1. 182: Derrick (Merit history - BPIP) has been Autobanned
    2. 333: jib (BPIP) has been Autobanned
    3. 545: melvster (BPIP) has been Autobanned
    4. 651: epaulson (Merit history - BPIP) has been Autobanned
1b. http://loyce.club/bans/usernames.txt (smaller for quick searches: CTRL-F)
Sample:
Code:
182: Derrick
333: jib
545: melvster
651: epaulson

For machine processing:
2a. http://loyce.club/bans/Autobanned.txt (Autobanned userIDs).
Sample:
Code:
182
333
545
651
2b. http://loyce.club/bans/Nuked.txt (Nuked userIDs).
Sample:
Code:
8841
11570
12620
13359
2c. http://loyce.club/bans/banned.txt (2a and 2b combined)

All lists are sorted on userID, oldest accounts are shown first.

Updates
I'll update the lists daily, using data from modlog.

Incomplete
Unfortunately, I don't have a complete list of all banned accounts.  If a data dump becomes available, I'll use that.
If someone (trusted) has older copies of modlog, please let me add them.

NEW: Unbanned?
If your account was unbanned, all you need to do is make a post (anywhere on the forum) and you'll be removed from the list in about a day (see details).

Mistakes?
If I made a mistake, just post here.

One last thing
Please don't join this list Cheesy
