LTC is a waste of time long term as well as all alt currencies.  If you do mine it, sell it or trade for BTC immediately.

I'd probably have to disagree with you there, once ASICs force most of the GPU miners to switch out litecoin is probably where they are going to go.  I  dare say that once that happens it's just a matter of time before you see the adoption rate increase.  Out of all the altcoins, litecoin is probably the best of them.

LTC is expected to go up in value considerable with Gox implementation. Great potential for the future despite that as well.

coinotron down 2-5% of time
That's not much. Some pools go offline much longer. Never had a problem with them.

I recommend you give-me-ltc like @Pokercoin, however you can find a detailed comparison here:

Should we use more then one pool, I mean as Failover pool ?
Yes, you should. It's best to keep your miner up as much as possible, even if a pool only goes down for 15 minutes. This is more especially important if you cannot check on your miners frequently/semi-frequently as you wouldn't be there to address the issue.

Also, as Pokercoin suggested, givemeltc is a good pool.

Coinotron. They are down a lot, but I haven't had much success with other pools.
