Litecoin is most popular after bitcoin. this popularity can be leveraged for a solution to an important problem.

The idea of hiding ones identities.

Imagine in future that govt starts tracking all the btc transactions, links them to ip etc. Why not? They have more than required resources to do so. Once they are sure its your address your identity is tied in. Enter altcryptos! All the altcryptos can be used as a medium to hide identity in various ways. A needs to pay B & hide identity. For escrow situations, A will pay C in btc, C pays B in LTC. For self preservation. Enter any major exchange (within seconds), convert to any altcrypto & exit! Mix & match situations to your imagination.

For me altcryptos have huge value in identity encapsulation.

What is the easiest way to purchase litecoins using bitcoin?

Besides btc-e.com and vircurex.com, Litecoin can also exchanged for FRC,TRC,PPC and BTC at cryptonit.net .

Litecoins tied up btc rate. how you determine Litecoins value if it valuated by btc rate only, and nothing else.

https://btc-e.com/exchange/ltc_usd
here LTC is traded for USD

just completed btc -> ltc -> usd ->btc   exit with 25% in 3 days,  not bad at all.

You can get between 40 to 50 litecoins per bitcoin on btc-e. I can assume that when litecoins and bitcoins reach their optimum market cap, 1 bit coin would get only 4 litecoins instead of 40-50 today (litecoins are undervalued by a factor of 10 in that case in relation to bitcoin.)

I'd rather convert litecoins to INR instead of BTC when I'm ready to sell litecoins unless there's a really strong market where I can exchange bitcoins for things such as e-books or sponsoring social causes.

Litecoins value can also be considered since it is an entry point into BTC for current adopters.

I just got a 7850 to try out mining litecoins. Cards run hot and the fans get noisy. It's not worth mining for more than a few hours unless you have a garage or spare room where it's ok to have computers without their side casings (no point mining at full speed unless there's strong airflow.)

As of now, I get no profit if I were to sell my mined litecoins at less than 125 INR (2.3 USD) per LTC at today's hash difficulty.

Edit: Changed cost estimate from 180 to 125. A pure mining rig can produce litecoins even cheaper but price isn't about cost, it's about market value.

We plan to add LTC within 1 month after we start off BTC trading on our site, but as i feel the volume will be less, we well have to make it possible to do,
INR -> LTC
LTC -> INR
BTC -> LTC
LTC -> BTC

But the last 2 trading pairs are risky in a way, so we'll avoid them as long as needed.

seems like holding bitcoins maybe be more profitable then spending money on GPUs to mine litecoins. is there any kind of mining calculator to check on profitability. Just wan to check if my old gaming computer can do any good.

Holding some shares of ASICminer may be even better. Any one owned some their shares?

Litecoin price WILL fluctuate too much until for some time, may be even a year or more than that.
Once bitcoins cant be mine with GPU, then the price of litecoins will increase further.
Buying litecoins with bitcoins is easier than INR.

Litecoin does seem like the only other interesting crypto currency and has gained a lot in value over the last one or 2 weeks.

Litecoins would be an awesome addition to buysellbitco.in

So far i have only been able to procure litecoins by mining, and considering the sudden spurt in difficulty recently, it is no longer profitable for me to mine on my stupid box.. buying in India would be a welcome addition, and gives people more choices.
Nice
I like it.

We are just trying to figure out few possibilities at the moment like what would be best way to price Litecoins. Litecoins are tricky spices when it comes to price. As per our current observation it is much better to offer litecoins taking bitcoins as payment rather than INR because the way litecoins prices swing is kind of roller coaster ride. Price swing is there in bitcoin too, but generally it has a market trend as the economy is much more mature than litecoin it obeys market trends and its tough to manipulate the economy in huge percentage. With Litecoin you can never guarranty trend of market.

Lets see how it goes Smiley

Expect LTC to rise in few months.
Am holding till it hits 10.

Litecoins will always be volatile. But you can safely assume them as second good choice available with crypto currencies at the moment. If you are not day trader in Litecoins, you do not need to worry.. It will give you great returns in long term.

@Benson
When it hits 10, make sure you sell it on buysellbitco.in  Smiley ( Hopefully we will add Litecoin as option in very near future )

Cheers

There is sudden fall in LTC prices today.

LTC is and will be very volatile - I mean MORE volatile than BTC. Is mostly a speculators tool to double up quickly BTC holdings, in fact during last week its value has gone x10

That is correct. With Mt Gox being DDOS'd every minute, people doubt if LTC will get into Mt Gox anytime soon.
Hence the drop. Guess this will be a long term investment as well.

Yes, Litecoins have suddenly gained a lot of miners and even the price has gone up a lot, mostly due to ASICs taking over Bitcoin mining, smaller GPU miners moved onto Litecoin

Might be interesting to find out how many LTC users are there, might open a small trading category for that if the volume is good (1:1 buy / sell)
