I am new to this forum as well and I studied the rank and merit system. So far, I really like it. The system is easy to understand and it is also easy to rank up. It is an effective way to keep the forum with good quality content and not just rambles from members but a good discussion of the said forum topic. What I dont really like is the search. Since I am new I like to read certain topics but it has like a time limit.
This forum have 2 ways for search and some filters to bring good results when you are trying to use this feature. you can try to follow this guide about search function in this forum, https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/tips-guide-for-forum-search-3127909 or, you can try using google search with additional filter

Code:
site:bitcointalk.org (keyword of topic you want)
exm: site:bitcointalk.org how to create custom segwit address

with that way will make you easy to find topic.

I'm new here just opened beginner's section trying to understand some basics of the forum. I got to know that to rank up we need activity and merit
There are more basics of the forum you need to learn. Rank and merit are not necessary for you to learn forum's basics and bitcoin's basics.

Merit is given to you from them who are source.
You can receive them from users who send smerit to you. They can be merit sources or not merit sources.

One of fellow answers that what if people pay for merit. This is a good question.
If you don't pay then i think you have to improve your post quality.
I think people are softer to send merit to newbies but when you rank up, you will need better posts to receive merit.

How can we improve post quality because we want to discuss here.
Reduce your post numbers and don't post if you think your posts give the same information that were given by other posts.

You really don't pay to earn merit because that's illegal and not a proper way of earning merit.

If that's possible then this forum will become useless or trash if you can pay to earn merit.

The reason why merits are difficult to earn is because it requires hard-work and determination in making quality posts. Sharing knowledge and information that will really contribute in this forum is really important for our forum's growth. That's why merits are only deserved by those people who work hard and who doesn't post for the sake of merit only.

But studying the rules, information about ranks and merits will not be a mistake, and in 2 years.
If you speak one of the languages of the local forums, then you can earn First Merit by translating interesting topics and messages

Dont get too hung up on Ranking Up, focus more on getting involved and learning.

The rules are there and apply to everyone.

Being a member on BCT means you will have to read a lot, we all have to do that,
and it helps with the learning too.

If you don't pay
Well this is wrong, if you are caught buying and selling Merit then you can get a red sign on your account profile, you will automatically be miserable and disabled.

How can we improve post quality because we want to discuss here.
Well, this is just right, this is clear thinking and professional, you are doing one thing that is quality and useful for this forum community, when you wake up and open your account profile, you have been awarded Merit.
Do something top and be amazed.

This is a question that is generally asked in this forum a lot. The answers aren't too much diferent from each other because, honestly, the path to be recognized as someone who contributes positvetly to the community is quite straighforward:

  • Be someone that is more worried about providing helpful answers instead of just posting one line answers such as : "Good idea!" ; "Thank you I'll try" ; "Yes I agree"
  • Try to be the person that you wish to become. If you want to be someone seen in the community as helpful then try your best to guide members to the right solutions. Further than providing guidance one needs to teach them how members should guide themselves.
  • Try your best to make informative threads about anything that you like to know / learn. Perhaps some Technical Analysis that you follow, perhaps explaining new methodologies that are being developed in the crypto community. The possibilities are endless in this field, but the main objective is just to provide information that hasn't been shared extensively before.
  • If you find yourself with some time to spare, why not try to translate some important and relevant threads to your local board? The original OP would be happy and you'll be providing a service to people that aren't very familiar with the language that the thread is written in.
These are just a couple of the many points that should guide you in your quest to become a good and positive user. If you indeed demonstrate good qualities in these fields I'm sure you'll get reckoning for it. At the end of the day you're responsible for the path that you choose to use here. Choose wisely Wink

I'm sure that you've seen them, but I'll share some more information regarding the ranking mechanism :

Best of luck in your journey Wink

what if people pay for merit.
This is one of the reasons sendable merits are added on a 2:1 ratio (for every 2 merits you receive, you get 1 merit to send). If someone plans on selling merits, they would eventually run out of merits to send except they are sources, which is highly improbable.
The trust system would also help to an extent, even though it wasn't the purpose it was created, any user who consistently engages in dodgy merit transactions would eventually be found out and could get tagged as a warning to other forum members.

How can we improve post quality because we want to discuss here.
• Understand the rules of the forum,
• Read informative threads and join constructive discussions,
• Use the SEARCH option at the top to check out previous discussions on any topic that interests you.
Basically, put in effort.
