Goodnight, ohh Leo!!! 🦅
Truth is, his decision was a tough one... To be honest, this still looks new to me; I'm wondering what was going on in his head, but that' happened a long time ago soooo...
That act only proved one thing -- you might show up in a casino with real intensions to win, and it happens. So, it's safe to say that GAMBLING in general is more of a lucky race.
BTW, I just learnt this thread had been previously discussed, and since I didn't surf around to see for myself before posting this, I'm gonna have to lock this one..
Thanks for your contributions.

I wouldn’t see this as inspirational story or something to recommend doing in any case, FedEx was lucky but not companies who would be in that situation may survive due to a very risky move. Gambling with the company funds is reckless to me and not heroic. Blackjack is mostly luck unless if someone is counting cards and even then, it's risky.
Sure, he turned $5,000 into $27,000, but what if he lost? He would be blamed for ruining the company not praised. Society often glorifies success and forgets the risks taken to get there but the same gamble would be condemned if it failed.

I believe that the outcome doesn’t justify the action here. My thoughts here is that recklessness remains reckless, regardless of results. Real solutions require strategy and responsibility, not luck. This isn’t any activity to recommend unless you show the risks, and the whole strory is gambling with the whole future od many workers.

I have heard about his story before and a more recent thread was even created for it[1].

As regards whether I’d be able to take such a risk or not depends on what kind of situation I’m in and what possible ways are available for me to solve it - if it’s a do or die situation where I know I won’t be able to get help from anywhere and the amount I have won’t help fix it (which means if I do nothing I’m still going to be screwed) I might take the risk (I’m not certain though, but there’s a chance of me taking it) but if there are other means then I won’t even bother to think about gambling with it.

I was surfing through the Internet when I found a shocking but somewhat surprising theory... After a few tries, I was able to confirm that this was authentic. Well, what's more concerning to me is his guts
For whatever reason, can y'all take such a huge risk?
What if he lost to the casino, what would have been the fate of FedEx today?

Making a decision at this kind of crucial time is very hard and dangerous to take, gambling as we know is a fifty by fifty chances of losing or wining, at this point, he would have thought about it, that its either he lost everything and be grounded to start afresh or look for another alternative if it does not work out with gambling, or he takes the risk and win the bet with the opportunity of things going back to normal over his company, but such decision made is very tough and i cant advise someone to make such, we cant tell even if it didn't work out and lose the bet, he may be having another extra alternative to still fall back to, but as for anyone, its not a good idea for taking risk to this extent.

The same topic was recently discussed ; Why does the outcome makes it different.

The OP of that thread had to lock it because many members commented that the same story of FedEx CEO has been discussed severally on the forum.

For whatever reason, can y'all take such a huge risk?

I will not take such a risk because gambling is unpredictable. Losing that $5000 would have caused great damage. It will be better to seek credit or loans to add to what I have than to bet with all the money I have.

The company would have gone bankrupt, sold to another investor, or gone extinct. Maybe he would have sought for funds somewhere else or decided to get a partner that would raise the money.

To be honest, I can't ever take such risks though I think the reason he might be able to take such risk was because he had no other options left, the $5k can't save the business and so might well just gamble with it in order to raise more funds to save it.

I think also he must have been good with that game for him to resolve to this. I have a friend who went to stake the money sent by his parent to him for getting a phone in order to make x2 of the money and get a better phone, this happened like almost a decade ago but I have to admit he did had a lot of gut to do that and also sure of that game before betting on it.

I have been aware of the FedEx CEO lottery prize and risk that changed the face of the company forever up until this very moment, his success is one among the few others who are lucky to have turned their fortune around with such a big risk, I think at that point he already concluded in his mind that is either lose or lose, but better to risk it all in the lottery.

At that time, the company was already suffering from a financial crisis, and it needed a miracle to keep operating, so even if the CEO hadn't taken that risk with the leftover funds, the company would not have still survived it; it a lose-win situation and luck played out perfectly for him he won.
