A new partnership will see Liverpool City Council use blockchain technology to become the world’s first climate positive city by the end of 2020.
The Liverpool City Council of the United Kingdom has announced its collaboration with the Poseidon Foundation (XLM, Stellar), a non-profit carbon credits and blockchain NGO, built on the Stellar Network.
By using Stellar’s network, Poseidon can offer an immutable purchase, transaction, and settlement of carbon credits almost immediately, all at a low cost.
In addition, the Stellar network only produces 0.0000015kg of CO2 per transaction, compared to 21.08kg for Ethereum and 310.75kg for Bitcoin, which adds the ecological credentials of Poseidon.
City of Liverpool adopts blockchain, aims to be climate-positive. The Poseidon foundation will be moving its operations to the city in order to play a key role in their climate strategy, with a 12-month trial.
