Okay. I logged in to the app using the email address they sent that email.. it logged in this time, not sending me a link to "create an account".

I then did the clicking, and it found a wallet on my Google Drive, I entered the password, and voila! it's there.

Thank you!

I am glad that I was able to help you. I haven't used their app in the past but I tried it to check how the backup process works so I could help. I am glad that you were able to get access to the wallet. But here is the most important question, As you were saying that you bought some Bitcoin from an ATM, did you get access to your fund? Did you find your Bitcoin in this wallet? Or was it empty?

Since the problem is solved, you may close this thread. To lock it, scroll down to the end of this thread and you will find the lock thread button. Thanks!

Hi All! I appreciate all the help, and I'm sorry if I am not reporting items correctly.
I hope additional data helps, and I appreciate all the replies!

Thanks.

Thanks for the info.
Now it's clear that somehow your account is related to Bitcoin.com
The first question is, do you remember your master password? As you can see, you won't be able to recover your Bitcoin wallet without the master password. But, if you remember the password, I am glad that I am here to help.

First, If you have an Android device, Install this app from the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitcoin.mwallet

Check the email address where you have received it. Make sure to log in and the email address in your Gmail app and update your drive app on your device. Now, you are ready to go.

>> Open the app
>> Tap Skip
>> Tap on settings in the bottom right corner
>> Tap on Backup & Security
>> Enable the cloud backup button
>> Tap on Continue with Google Drive
>> Now choose the correct email where you received the wallet.data file. Now, It should say; "An Existing wallet file has been found" and it will ask for your master password and you should be ready to go.

Let me know if you understand everything or not.

Everything is confusing. It seems you bought without taking note of every single detail. You aren't even sure where your coins were sent, or whether they're actually sent, after you bought from an ATM. Did you even confirm that the funds indeed arrived at your wallet? If I'm not mistaken, ATMs provide purchase receipts. Surely, you lost them, too.

Try to remember what other wallets you used, because if you used Bitcoin.com, you would have received an email notification of such transaction, but you probably didn't.

Did you do everything alone? I can't imagine doing all of these without paying attention to anything. How much did you buy, anyway?

I have never used Bitcoin.com because the website is owned by the fraudster CSW (If I am not wrong).

I think Bitcoin.com is owned by the Bitcoin Cash clowns, Roger Ver in particular, and not by the Bitcoin SV clowns.

Hi All! I appreciate all the help, and I'm sorry if I am not reporting items correctly.

I bought digital currency using cash at an ATM near my home, back in April 2022. I presume it was loaded into my bitcoin app (I've changed phones since then), and the bitcoin app was moved to my new phone..I haven't used bitcoin since April 2022.  Since bitcoin app was on my phone and I've only dabbled in crypto currency once, I assumed that when I bought currently last year, it was with bitcoin. I've tried all 4 emails that I would have used (that's all I have) to login to the app and none worked.. I received an email from bitcoin saying "Click the button below to finish creating your account. Your link expires in 7 days.". I also logged in using my Google profile, and in that instance, I didn't get an email asking me to click a button, but rather that I re-identify myself (name, address, drivers license, SSN, etc.) before buying currency.

In searching for ANYTHING related to digital currency (crpto), in my 4 emails accounts, the ONLY email I found in one of my email addresses was from bitcoin (the same app on my phone), and the email is from April, 2022, and says the following and has a wallet.data attachment to it:

BO EMAIL*****
Thank you for using the Bitcoin.com Wallet

Your cloud backup is set and ready to go.

We've attached a copy of your Wallet Recovery File to this email, and encrypted it with your master password for safe-keeping. If you ever lose access to your cloud backup, please contact us and we can use this file to help you recover your funds.

This file is only for emergency restorations, so please keep it in a safe place. For security purposes, we cannot reset your master password, so please take note and save it accordingly.

If you've recently changed devices, you can sync your wallet automatically by re-logging into your cloud drive from the new app.

Thanks for choosing Bitcoin.com

EO EMAIL*****

If I open the .data file using notepad++, it's just a bunch of letters and numbers.. 1400 to be exact, so I assume this is an encrypted file.

I hope additional data helps, and I appreciate all the replies!

Thanks.

So, I have a backup bitcoin wallet.data file that was emailed to me last year (from Bitcoin), when I created a bitcoin account for the first time. It's sitting in my email inbox.
That's not from Bitcoin, it's from the centralized service that you created an account on.

I've tried logging in to the bitcoin app with 4 different email addresses and also with just google profile, and each time, I either get an email asking me to create an account and complete the full signup process (name, address, ID, SS#, etc.).
Centralized services will require KYC and AML process, which demands your personal information of you.

Does bitcoin delete old accounts? I created it in April 2022, and haven't used it since.

The main part I remember is that I went to an ATM to buy bitcoin...
No, Bitcoin does not delete wallets. Whether the service you're using prevents their users fro accessing the wallets they create for you, I do not know.
Try recovering the file to a different wallet software.

Bitcoin never deletes their old lots but you made a mistake logging in. Because you have repeatedly tried to sign up using different emails, the information is showing up wrong. If you can login with your correct email then you must login correctly.

After reading the entire write up, I thought I would be the only one who didn't get the message from the post. You didn't even state the name of the Bitcoin APK you were trying to log into. Ideally, most crypto mobile applications would give you a seed phrase, which serves as a backup process. Anything aside from that is clearly something to avoid.

You might as well come back to this post to make adjustments and simplify your write up.

I am confused as hell. Where did you sign up and who sent you the bitcoin.data file? As BitMaxZ asked, I also want to ask the same. Who sent you the email? Did you receive it from Bitcoin.com? I have never used Bitcoin.com because the website is owned by the fraudster CSW (If I am not wrong). If you received an email from their website, try to use forget password using the same email, so you can reset your password.

When I saw the thread, I wondered what you mean by Bitcoin deleting old accounts. Bitcoin does not have an official website. Bitcoin cannot delete accounts. It's a decentralized network. If you have your seed phrases, you don't have to use any specific wallets. Just install any noncustodial wallet that supports importing seed phrases. I suggest Electrum for that.

I'm a bit confused what exactly wallet do you use?

If you talking about bitcoin.com when you create a wallet it should give you 12 words phrase so who sent you the wallet.data?

Can you check the email who sent you the wallet.data?
Maybe the wallet app you talking to is a different wallet?

Bitcoin doesn't delete old account. You are asked to complete the sign up because you used different email address or accessing the platform without using the account you have sign up previously but if you open the old account then you won't need to complete anything at all. Since you said you have the wallet.dat then why not use it to access the old account. I don't know what you are trying to do but if you have an old account then it's useless to create new one.

No Bitcoin doesnt delete old account
Either your login details were wrong or
An error occured during the back up process.
You might be able to get insight from this link https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.59332246

You can still trying contacting their customer care
Or better still try creating an account again
And using settings try to import your wallet address.

Hopefully one of these might help.
