I have not experienced this before, but I have experienced something strange on my profile. That day I opened my profile, but what I was seeing was a different username...
This is a weird situation. Are you certain that your computer tab was not opened to a different forum user and you came in to meet it? This for me is the only situation that can make you see a different username.
But you are an experienced forum user and would have been sure of what you were experiencing, and have to had been a major glitch on your account.

I am very certain, mate. I know it sounds a bit unreal because this is not the first time I've talked about this here, but it seems it's been neglected any time I've talked about it. I was even surprised by that situation. I don't know what to say if it wasn't some network glitch.

If you feel this topic deserves to be locked, then go for it. But this is meta, keep it open for a while as maybe some user want to share their experiences.

About me, so far I have not experienced it. I only consciously send them 2 merit on the same post, but instead of sending them 2 merit in 1 transaction, I try to send them 1 merit per transaction. I have to wait at least 60 seconds to be able to post merit on the same post, but it always shows a warning if I want to post before 60 seconds. But anyway, I didn't experience the same as you have so far.

Double clicking or reloading the page both had the same result. It's actually the reason theymos implemented the 60 second delay, but that doesn't stop all cases as you found out.

Not really. If you see the OP's image, there is a difference of less than a minute but between two different posts. The merit that I sent to the same post when refreshing the page is about 7 minutes apart from the other.

I just tried to do the same and couldn't, even waiting for longer than 1 minute (I gave you two merits but because I tried twice separately).

I would lock the thread but this is Meta, I don't think it will last long here without being locked if there isn't some meaningful discussion going on.

Edit: I think what has been said is enough. Locking it.

I am getting old too but as far as I know, we are not talking about the same thing. Your quote talks about double clicking the Send button, and I am talking about having refreshed (or reloaded if you prefer) the page. Not about meriting the same post twice at the same time but after a while.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if you've talked about exactly that elsewhere in some of your many posts.

I'm getting old: there are now Legendary users who just discover the flaws in the Merit system that were discussed shortly after it was introduced:
Occasions where the same user merited the same post twice at the exact same time
26 posts received the same number of Merit from the same user in the same second. This is caused by double clicking the Send button[/b]:

So, i had the tab with my merit history open and I don't know how I refreshed the page...

And I wouldn't say it's a flaw either, it's more of a curious thing.

Wow, I didn't know about this. I remember sending over 500 merits in less than 40 minutes, but I didn't know about such restrictions.
Is it for all accounts? Huh
The restriction applies only in the merit sending page, right after you have sent smerits to a post. You have a 60-second restriction window before you can again send the same amount of merits to the same post.

→ If it's a different amount of merits getting sent to that very post, then it's possible to do it even within the 60 seconds
→ If you are sending any number of merits to different posts, then it's possible to do it even within the 60 seconds.

I am using this Userscript ----> Enhanced merit UI
, you do not need to open a new window to send sMerits and you will not be able to double sending merits to the same user until after you reload the page.

If you hit the refresh after the 60 seconds, then it's possible.

I haven't encountered such a situation. It does look kind of weird and confusing if it had happened with me. I generally decide on the amount of merit and send it and go back to the topic. What I have experienced is that the merit takes few seconds to get reflected on the receiver profile. Other than that everything has been working fine.

This error has not happened to me regarding merit before, but sometimes I have the error of publishing the same post twice as a result of a mistake or pressing the publish button quickly, in this case an error message appears telling me that I have just published the same post.

So I find it appropriate to use the same error message with the merit in order to prevent the merit from being sent twice by mistake.

What can I say, Congratulations to Mahdirakib, it takes luck to receive merits twice for the same purpose... Smiley

It happened to me twice with two usernames on a single day last year and a good lesson was learned. I guess Chrome warned me of a double submission if am correct, I only ignored it.

Interesting, I had no idea that merit can be sent doubled under the right circumstances! How fascinating, just another glitch in the matrix I suppose  Wink

It’s something that can easily be caused by a glitch in the network. When it comes to merits, it’s uncommon as meriting isn’t an activity one might likely find themselves doing often.

When it comes to making posts, it’s a common thing for me although, it’s often controlled or monitored. Most times, the little break in or glitch in stability and I find my browser asking to continue submission which I often approve and at other times, I go back a step to see if it’s been posted already.

Anyway, that could be the case while still on the merit page. A 7 minutes time frame between is a good enough time to course the page to sleep. Perhaps something to look out for.

When you refresh or click Send, within 60 seconds, it will show the message.

" You just merited that post! Did you double-click? ".
Is it something relatively new? I am asking because I could swear that I didn't see any message each time it happened (last time it happened was probably more than a year ago).

This is not new feature, the popup message is very small and not noticeable especially if you are using desktop with huge screen. I usually received this notification when I’m distributing merit on local boards. You will just mistakenly that the page didn't load properly when you refresh if you didn't pay much attention on the screen pop-up.

@Poker player, my worst epic fail on sending merit is sending 10 instead of 1 simce the default zero doesn't automatically delete once we input a number.  Cry

I have not experienced this before, but I have experienced something strange on my profile. That day I opened my profile, but what I was seeing was a different username. I think activity and posts were the same, but registration dates were different. I refreshed the profile more than twice, but it just kept going back to a different name, which I have not even come across on the forum. So, I just assumed that most of those situations arise due to some network glitch. I just forgot to take a screenshot that day; if not, I would have made a topic relating to what happened that day.

Yeah it happened to me several times. Luckily I usually give only 1 merit so even when it happens, its not a big deal and it doesn't usually empty my smerit.

Honestly it has happened to me but once, when i wanted to send a merit to one user and it went then i went offline by closing the browser without logging out the forum, after some time when i already forget that I've sent a merit to someone, on getting back online on same page, it first asked to confirm resubmission and all i could thought was to reload the page i was the last time it being active and i clicked ok not knowing it the same merit page sent it's requesting for resending confirmation until i saw you have sent merit to the same user i already sent to.

It could sound annoying because one never expected it to happen, but i think the worse one should be making a mistake in pressing the numbers, maybe you intend to send 1 then you press it twice or you wanted to send two but make the mistake of sending 22  Grin

Oh yeah, it happened to me I think a total of two times, both way back when the merit system started and I had no frigging idea what it was all about or how to use it correctly.  OP, you weren't around then but I remember I had a bad case of the flu in Jan. 2018, and I woke up the morning the merit system had been unleashed upon the forum thinking I was hallucinating the whole thing, because it seemed like every single new thread was about this forum feature called merit, something I'd never heard of before.

And back then, one of the first problems was exactly what you described--the glitch where you can double-send merits.  I recall someone posting about it around the same time I did it the first time, and I've been careful not to repeat that mistake ever since.  It's a damn good thing there's a 50 merit cap on the amount that can be sent in one shot (and in one month).

Not your keys, not your coins!
If you hit the refresh after the 60 seconds, then it's possible.
The three merit transactions are between 7 minutes so it is possible to happen after refreshing the merit page.

When you refresh or click Send, within 60 seconds, it will show the message.

" You just merited that post! Did you double-click? ".

Did Poker Player ignored the message?

Ye, it happens when you refresh the merit giving page and hit the "Enter" key without reading the alert message  Tongue

** Giving you merit for the test.
At first i thought, when you will hit the refresh page with enter key, merit will be sent even if you have some Smerits or not. Hehe. Yeah that's quite shocking because i thought it like as, you don't need smerits anymore. Hehe. I am still laughing on what i thought out of it. Well for those who will try to tell me that. Its not like that.

I wanted to say i got it, that you have to have some smerits then you will be able to send merit with page reloading. Well, i think dear op it was in the fortune of mahdirakib that he/she received 3 merits instead of 1.

Not any case that I remember, but I think there is a period where you can not send merit to the same user and post unless if the rules changed now
Alright, you now can't merit the same post with the same amount within 60 seconds.

If you hit the refresh after the 60 seconds, then it's possible.

Nah!! It hasn't happen to me.

I remember one time when I left my page opened after I sent merit to an account and the page became inactive but as soon as I refreshed it I received a pop up notification about resubmitting the last command I did on that tab, and the last time I agree to something like that I made double post in the same thread so I had to cancel this one.

By any chance did you receive similar notification?

If you have sent merit to someone, close the tab or merit page.

If you refresh the tab under one minute or so, the merit will not be sent and you will be notified that reason the merit is not sent. You have to wait for sometimes like more than 1 minute before you will be able to send merit again to the same post.

So, i had the tab with my merit history open and I don't know how I refreshed the page and what happened was the merit that I had sent the last one was sent again. I don't think this happens much and it's not a big deal but I'm commenting just in case.
