First of all is important to understand the difference between a Cryptocurrency and a Token. For a cryptocurrency you need to edit the bitcoin or an altcoin code, and run the node on different machines to create the network. And for a Token you need to make a Smart contract with etherum, with a token you don't need to run the nodes because they are already running under ETH network.
