Have ordered what SAC suggested from a Uk supplier. Lets see if it does the job.

Try pushing on the fan really hard (while supporting the card from the other side)... sometimes the fan mechanism pops off the bearings a little bit

I have a machine with 3 HD5870's in, and one of them shows a much higher temperature than the others.

All 3 cards work fine, but inspection reveals that one of the cards has a 'stiff' fan that in use doesn't even rotate.

That would be the reason for the running hot then.

The performance of the hot one is apparently a bit lower than the other cards, especially once hot, and I surmise that it throttles back as
its temperature limit is reached, and that that is what has saved the card from a hot death, in fact.

Its midwinter now, and cold where these are running , so it may not be too bad. But I'd like to get this fixed.

Seems like a new fan is whats needed.

Anyone know anyone who can provide this service? Or is it not possible to do this and should I just let the card continue to fry ?
