It could have been a phishing site with a spoofed URL name resembling myetherwallet.com (but in reality it could have been myetherwaIIet or myetherwallet.se etc.)
Couple of things to remember -
1. Always remember to check the URL before entering your credentials (Check if there are any letters resembling other letters like mm or nn).
2. Always check for the Certificate to the left of the address bar (It should say Secure with a lock sign in Chrome, and similar icons for other Browsers).
Try to bookmark the authentic site once you visit it and always try to go to the site via your bookmark and never click on links forwarded via email/messenger/forum to login to a page. If you must visit, type in the URL so you know you are entering the right characters and not mistaking some characters in the link for some others.

use trusted sources for finding the real source 
for example when you are searching for an altcoin's wallet look for its announcement on bitcointalk (this forum) and in that announcement you can see the real links to download the wallets.
also usually the exchanges have the links to these things too. for example they give you the announcement topic link, the link to their website, or the github repository. you can use those links instead of searching.
also there is coinmarketcap.com which lists almost all the altcoins that exist and in each page of them, it has the links you are looking for.

Only use the official links. Don't click on sponsored links in google hits.
You can always put a url in a website like virustotal.com to see if anything weird pops up.
Double check the link with the announcement thread on this forum. If it matches, you are are probably on the correct site.

My friend just got robbed from a pshing site. it was 1.4btc. i would like to know on how to identify a pshing sites. thank you
