Coinbase will store your personal information in their database and won't share it with other users. That is not necessary for centralized exchange to do.
If you are comfortable with sharing your ID with your local bank then (unless you are extremely paranoid about it) should be fine with Coinbase too.
AFAIK no exchange share any of your info with other customers - they might however give it to government/IRS if asked.

Coinbase now operates in the U.K so I've read on their site.

Exchange, you mean USD to BTC?
Localbitcoins and coinbase are legitimate services so I don't think your details that you give them will be found somewhere else unless their system gets hijacked and someone steals it.

Im in the UK but yea looking to buy btc. Coinbase seems better than localbitcoins but just after personal experiences as Ive never used an exchange, just the forum.

Afaik purchasing in coinbase is only available for people from US. I'm not sure about this tho.
Btw, try to check out shapeshift or bitfinex.
Also there may be bitcoin atms available around you, you can also purchase bitcoins in it afaik.

Hi everyone,

Don't delve into many parts of the forum but feel the need to ask for some advice in this section. Buying btc from people of the forum has become troublesome due to the high number of scammers.

So I'm looking at using an exchange of some sort. I've tried localbitcoins but not a fan of sharing my ID with each trader so I'm looking at coinbase.

Has anyone got dealings with them personally? Does the ID you share with them just stay with them or get shown to people you exchange with?

Have any of you guys got any suggestions of a legitimate exchange that's not going to scam me or sell my bank details etc?

Thanks.
