L.A. Bitcoin Show and Tell: Thursday, February 20, 2014

Cross Country: 820 Broadway Santa Monica, CA 90401, Santa Monica, CA

http://www.meetup.com/Los-Angeles-Bitcoin/events/162402782/

"Instead of doing a panel or guest speakers, we thought we'd open up the floor to the community for this event. We want to hear about what you're working on in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Show and Tell
We'll give you 7 minutes to share what you're working on to the entire group and ask the community for whatever you're looking for, followed by 5 minutes of Q&A. If you want to use slides, you can, but keep in mind, this is a very short presentation and setup time will eat into your presentation time, so we recommend skipping the slides. We want to keep things moving and get as many people up to bat as possible.

Need programmers? Investors? Beta testers? Customers? Here's your chance to make it known.

We're having an open call for presenters, so please reply to the comment titled "PRESENTER LIST" below with your name and company name to make sure you get scheduled in.

Job Fair
We'll also have an open area in the back of the room for anyone who is currently hiring to meet up with anyone who is currently looking to work for a Bitcoin startup. If you're interested in sponsoring a table, let us know (it's cheap, don't worry).

I plan on attending the Andreas Antonopoulos Meetup and Digital LA event.  Also,  I think it would be good to try to get our friends who are not yet intimately familiar with Bitcoin to attend both events as well.

For the Meetup, does anyone know if there is a Facebook event I can invite people too?  I think it would be easier than just posting to my wall.

While normally I'd agree, looks like if we can't find another venue, the RSVP list is already way over capacity for Coloft. Hoping something magic happens before tomorrow night...

While this entry here is unrelated to any meetup, it is related to Bitcoiners in Los Angeles / SoCal:

NEFT Vodka (the brand with the Bitcoin logo on the "bottle") is now available in the U.S. -- but only in Los Angeles (for now, ... later available in Las Vegas as well):

Here's a post describing locations in L.A. where it is available for sale:

There's an event on January 15th but it's not a "Meet-Up": Digital LA - Bitcoin: What You, Consumers, Merchants, Developers Need to Know
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/digital-la-bitcoin-what-you-consumers-merchants-developers-need-to-know-tickets-9886252046
Well, it kind of started as a meetup with Elizabeth Ploshay, back in mid-October… http://www.meetup.com/Los-Angeles-Bitcoin/events/146345162/

Good point.  I just don't think of meetups as ticket-selling events, but no reason they couldn't be.  There is also rumors of a new bi-weekly gathering bubbling up in West LA / Venice area.

Good times last night!  Wow, what a turnout.  So many people, so many projects.
The night ended far too soon.

Since there may not be another LA meetup before Oct 31 (when the Satoshi Nakamoto Whitepaper 5th anniversary commemorative becomes no longer available) if you wanted to get one and missed me there, let me know soon and we will find a way.

Thanks for the beautiful silver coins. I picked up five last night, and can vouch that they are brilliant. Really nice design, and there's something about holding a weighty silver coin in your hand that's very gratifying.

Is there parking at Coloft?

There is usually ample street parking available in the area after 6pm, especially on Santa Monica Blvd. Please do not park in the back lot, it's reserved for the tenant upstairs. Also, watch out for any posted signs, the Santa Monica ticket patrol is fierce.

Any in September?
Pick a place and a time.

Libertopia was great.  Thank you to all who attended.
4 days of freedom liberty and highly motivated folks working for a more free and private world based on non-coerced individual choice.

sad i missed it

how much bitcoin focus?

Bitcoin dominated.

Although very many who arrived knew little about Bitcoin, these are the sweet spot.  There were many new Bitcoin users created.

I sold out of all the Silver New Liberty Dollars I brought.  Many of the purchases were in Bitcoin, in fact the majority were.

Just a reminder that this Wednesday in Santa Monica is a Bitcoin Meetup.
http://www.meetup.com/Los-Angeles-Bitcoin/events/123784402/

Last month's meetup in Downtown LA had a great turnout and was a lot of fun. I was one of the biggest newbies there, as most people I talked to have been involved in Bitcoin for a couple of years. The group has a lot of developers, miners (or former miners), and people who've owned Bitcoin since it was well under $1 USD. If you're into Bitcoin on any level, come on by, I think you'll enjoy yourself.

Ah, I misread it.
Why don't you show up to a meet-up one day, and introduce yourself to the crowd.

I think this is the best way to get any types of business transactions happening.

I am not looking to sell. Where do you live tho?

Looking to sell some bitcoins in person, any takers?

direct btc-e USD exchange so you can pick the price you want (if you want to wait for lower price if u expect a drop)

i'll come anywhere socal

The group has a lot of developers, miners (or former miners), and people who've owned Bitcoin since it was well under $1 USD. If you're into Bitcoin on any level, come on by, I think you'll enjoy yourself.

We will be arranging a date and time soon.

Whoever else wants to be apart of it, say it now, so we can do an online meetup before hand.

We had a VERY successful MeetUp a couple of weeks ago in downtown LA. I'd say close to 50 people were there. Many (not me) also attended the Satoshi Square the following week, and apparently there were about 30 people. I think at least half the people who came to the meetup are on BitcoinTalk, some who attended are legends here. People came from all over, some from pretty far away. And I was surprised that many people there attended Bitcoin 2013.

On the MeetUp site there are 2-3 Bitcoin LA groups last I looked (I joined every one I saw). You may have checked out the less active group. And even the bigger group may not look as active as it is, because most posts have been on the event pages (past and future), rather than the general pages.

Here's the MeetUp page for our next event: http://www.meetup.com/Los-Angeles-Bitcoin/events/123784402

I think we will be more effective as one large local group, rather than splintered smaller local groups.

I heard about it through reddit here:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1fp68b/satoshi_square_la_the_first_openair_bitcoin/

but the site that it's linked to http://spelunk.in/ organized the events.  I didn't see any advertisements for the event on this forum, but I'm sure there were BTCtalk members there.

That's great. Anyone from Bitcointalk there? or was it outside the means of people from this forum?
How was the meetup organized?

Awesome!  Welcome aboard. I'll arrange some plans ahead of time .

Have you seen any local events for Bitcoiners yet in the LA area?

I did see a meetup.com listing, but it didn't seem very active.
