Hi there,

I was transferring my bitcoins to Electrum wallet and I made a huge mistake. I entered a wrong received amount. Now my bitcoins are missing. I did not know mBTC unit was different from BTC so I didn't convert BTC amount to mBTC. How can I restore my missing bitcoins. Please help.

Open the electrum wallet.  Select tools/preferences/Appearence/Base Unit  and Select BTC.  mBtc is milibitcoin 0.001 Btc

Typically the receive amount shouldn't make you lose coins. Do you have the possibility to get the private keys of the destination addresses?

Isn't mBTC the same currency as BTC? If yes, then missing amount should be still in the wallet from where btc was sent, or did I get something wrong?

It's the same currency but not the same unit.
mBTC = 0.001BTC = a milli-bitcoin
If OP does not have control over the second wallet then these coins are lost, if they do, some coins will still be lost to transaction fees.

It looks like your bitcoin is not lost, because in essence mBTC with BTC is different so can not be converted

This situation happens a lot to a newbie. The best approach to this is know what the transaction ID and verify it from blockchain.info . Now if the information is valid but still persist that you have made a mistake then live with it  and move on.

I have never experienced what you experienced, such an event my sister has experienced, usually if a different wallet of your bitcoin will be automatically canceled, and your bitcoin will return.

Check if the transaction is confirmed , if not you may still be in the case of retrieving unless you already sent the money.

Has the transaction confirmed? If not then you could get your coins back that way instead.

You should be aware of conversion, There's no way you can get it back once successfully transferred otherwise the recipient is kind enough to return it, in other hand consider it a donation its a harsh term but it is. The only thing you can do now is trace who is the possible recipient and view transaction history. How much bitcoin did you lost dude?

Wherever you sent those bitcoins to, you will have to contact in order to get them returned back to you (but that is at their own choice - the bitcoins are now technically theirs).

For future reference, 1mbtc = 0.001btc. Also, if you could post the TXid if you don't know who has the coins then we can try to trace them from here.

It mayn't be sent due to the problems with conversion. Send us your TXID, so we could check it out

Firstly, Bitcoins don't go "missing" Wink

But you're going to have to give us some more information to be able to help. You say that you are moving your bitcoins to Electrum, but what wallet were you sending your bitcoins FROM?

Can you provide a Transaction ID (TXID) of the transaction that you created so we can see if it is just a case of an incorrect fee? It's possible that by getting mBTC and BTC confused, you've attempted to send a REALLY tiny amount of bitcoin... possibly with a really tiny fee... and the transaction is just unconfirmed.
