Windows is garbage for mining. If you need Windows for your gaming need, just install HiveOS on a USB then dual boot into it when you are not gaming on your Windows OS.

This is another reason why you should switch away from Windows 10 in any of your mining rigs. Currently many people in the Claymore thread have issues mining ETH with 4GB GPUs. The solution for that is to use Ubuntu instead. And another benefit of using Ubuntu is you don't need to worry about these pesky windows updates.

I've also had issues blocking the updates, for some reason you try one method, it works, but in a few months out of the blue your system has halted and when you plug a monitor into it, its some windows update that got halted. And windows updates should of been disabled.

With Ubuntu you won't get this issue, updates will pop-up but will always ask for your permission before installing and most of the time they are non-invasive and don't even require a restart to complete.

Thanks guys for the support!
Meanwhile the system is overclocked a bit by afterburner and a steady 28.9 mhs is reached !

Only hope is that I've done enough to stop Windows from updating Smiley

I already tried many ways to stop windows from updating but for me they are still updating after a few months.

If you have a problem after update always check the update history and uninstall the newest update so that it will go back to normal and make sure that the rig will ask you first before installing any update. Because sometimes it includes the GPU driver that can affect your miners hashrate if that's the case just reinstall the driver then do the patch to make it work again like before.

And disable the windows updates permantely because it will install the drivers again next week.

I tried many ways from youtube and google to disable windows update but all of them not working.  I mean it diable but my rig still updating every time it has new windows updates. I just always use the "paused" but it has a limited time of 1 month just to avoid or prevent windows for checking the latest updates.

The best that he can do if he doesn't want to experience this again better use other OS like SMOS this one I think will give better hashrate than windows just make sure the cards are modded already.
Are you using windows 10? If yes then this is the bad part on having this OS where there's an unstoppable automatic windows update even you do disable it out

but I have tested some methods and it did last for some time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN0G6YwiJEg. Just remember on how to revert it back if you do decide to enable the update.

I am with you on moving to a linux distro and a distro designed specifically for mining is not a bad way to go. With bios modded cards you can run them on pretty much any Debian based distro without any worries of updates causing issues. Its good to update linux but its much more flexible when updates are concerned compared to windows.

After disabling the Windows Update service in services.msc panel.
Go to gpedit.msc from run and in Windows settings, disable Automatic Windows Update and it should completely shut down any updates in the future.
You can also go with Windows 10 LTSC version where you only receive security updates rather than feature updates.

ohh another guy who find the right option to disable windows updates. I am not alone here Cheesy

Lately the Windows Update tool will Update your system with a major update even if you have disabled it in services.smc MMC.You should go to Local Group Policy and go to this path

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update

Then make sure to turn off every possible option for Windows Update.

With the Adrenaline drivers in compute mode I reach 25mhs now

With the original crimson blockhain drivers I reach 17mhs

Could it be a Afterburner setting which is messed up now ?

Adrenaline drivers in compute mode is good. 25 Mh/s for RX 570 seems fine but to get more hash rate out of it. Overclock the mem and undervolt voltages and reduce the clock.
Also, use -rxboost parameter in Claymore for a little more push. Drop afterburner to set settings and instead use OverdriveNtool for it. It's way much better.

I had this annoying thing happen in the past. It was annoying because I actually disabled Windows updates but it installed them anyways and it also installed new AMD drivers.

So I had to reinstall the old ones, re enable compute mode, reinstall afterburner and manually set the core clock and memory clock rates.

Your issue is that your memory clock is probably at the standard 1600mhz instead of the 2000mhz. Just over lock your memory and you should get your speed back.

And disable the windows updates permantely because it will install the drivers again next week.

Probably the afterburner settings have been reset to factory default, didn't you have a saved profile? set undervolt and overclock again and hashrate will be back to normal.

The windows update may have updated the AMD driver too and reset it to the original settings.

Did you see if the GPU Graphics option in AMD driver setting is set to Compute? It may be possible that it might be switched to Graphics thus the low hash rate.

Try to remove the windows update under updates and security it might be compatibility issue with driver.

The only solution is to remove the update.
Follow this guide below:

1.) Goto control panel
2.) Look for "updates and security"
3.) Then look for "windows update"
4.) After that click "uninstall updates"
5.) Then uninstall the one update which is installed this month.
6.) Restart the rig after that then reinstall everything don't forget patcher which is one of the important to make your driver work on mod bios.

Let's see if you can get the hashrate back to 29/30mhs also try different miner software that support AMD cards.

25 mhs looks like a normal RX 470 speed with standard clocks. I would check this ... Check how are the frequencies and consumption through gpuz.

Hello everyone,

Yesterday unfortunatley Windows 10 did an update.
After the update the mining program didnt see the RX570 4gb cards anymore.

Before the cards were hashing around 29 / 30 MHS (bought them second handed and the previous owner told me the cards where modded/flashed).

This is what I did afterwards.

- Uninstalled the AMD software in programs and applications
- Deleted the AMD folder on the C disk
- Deleted the 2 cards in the devicemanger

- Rebooted in Safe Mode
- Started DDU to clean everything
- Restarted again

- Installed the crimson drivers from AMD
- Installed the ATIMDAG patcher

- Restarted the computer

After this my miner recognized the cards again.
Only now I get 17MHS per card on eth mining.

When I install the conventional AMD drivers I get 25 MHS.

So I'm still missing some MHs compared to the situation before the update.

Any thoughts?!
