The more the GPUs you use the higher the watts they consume, I have a solution, sell all the GPUS and buy a single rtx3080 or other single mighty gpu, this RTX 3080 draws less watts vs all the GPUS you own and again you are running those GPUs with risers, do you know that risers takes some powers too? A single card will do the magic trick

Thanks for your replies philipima and others, I've decide to sell the rx580 and buy more solar panels instead, I will leave the rest for future buildings as I have a dream to build my own big mining farm some day, thanks

Holy Cow.

If I trust whattomine: your power consumption id 370watt+ Motherboard ( to mine ethereum, because RVN ts higher)
Can we call it 500 w ?
24hour*,5 its 12 KWh/ day its 4380 Kwh / year
you have 1.2 Kw Nominal
your system at best .. will produce 1600 Kwh / year facing south in free place can be better only if you are in Denver or Colombia or at very high altitude but not that much
Go here and check by yourself.
https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/en/pvgis#, just pinpoint your location  the map where you are and write 1.2 in the KW peak box and hit calculate.

At the end you need to triple your actual solar PV system to have those  running 24/7/365.

In theory!

in reality When you hit calculate its show a table and a graph ( kind of gaussian distribution curve).

That  will show you that , in the summer you will produce more than enough for running the system, but not for charging the battery fully and running the system.
Then if you multiply your 1.2 Kw by 3, the yearly production will be enough BUT (the winter + part of autumn and spring) production will NOT be enough!

As a reference  my system:

When finished  I will  have 9.9 Kw  380 V installed system facing south with 11.8 ( x3) KWH  3phase BYD  battery. This give me an a base of 1.5 Kwh/24/365 that I count for the two rigs.
On top there is an electrichal  water heating pump for bath & Kitchen use
Winter heating is done by wood as I am living in a forest with difficult access.
The two rigs (1 AMD 1 NVDA) are located one in the basement (AMD, a little noisy, 6 x RX 470 ) one in the first floor Nvda (6 x 3060TI/3070 Zotac) is very quiet
There is an AVS automatic ventilation system that is spreading the heat where is needed between the floors.
The excess energy produced during the summer  is "gifted" to the government in exchange for the 65 % tax deduction....
When there is (too much) snow, I can purchase electricity from the grid at 0.27 €(33$cents)  but that make mining  not convenient.

in short ? I will sell a 1/2 of GPU and purchase some solar panels... price is around 30€ cents / watt those days so probably you can purchase 1 Kwp with one 1660Ti

Hi pip I'm running my miners on solar and batteries and I want to lower power draw as much as possible, I've remove two RAM sticks and only have one onboard, any other things I can replace to limit power draw?

Pc config

Dell optiplex 370 with core i5 CPU
1x 4g ram stick
Three 1660 Ti and one rx580

Sell the rx580 at a profit from what you paid for it.

It will save power and instantly put cash in your hands. Use that cash to pay the power bill on the gear.

Hoping you had the rx 580 for a while before it became expensive.
Pay what power bill? I'm running on solar panels and batteries 24/7 sir, I'd rather swap the rx580 for gtx1660 super instead of selling because I've confirmed that gtx1660super runs so peacefully with lower power on my solar setup than rx580

So if the panels are paid off and the batteries are paid off.

Selling the rx580 will buy the next round of batteries. Thus it will pay your future power bill.

I am involved in an on grid 115k watt 1.55 acre  stoup.  It was paid off and we simply ran out of space to do more panels.

You simply do not need that rx 580 sell it for as much as you can right now.  You will get top dollar for it.

And you can buy coin with the money

or buy batteries .  batteries are not over price cards are.

the rx 580 sucks and getting top dollar for it is important.  So sell it and come back here let us now you sold it and what you got.  They we will help you spend it.

on coins = meh maybe good
on a 1660 super or ti = meh maybe good.
hold as cash = in your case maybe good since you will need batteries.
spend it on batteries = what I said in the first place.   well kind of.

I did not know if you were on grid or all battery.

Batteries suck they die one run five years or less depends on what you buy.

So if gpu price is up and it is buying batteries could be the best move.

your panels should be good a long time your charger should be good your invert should be good.

first thing to go will be the batteries and your free power will not be free.

Thanks for your advice, the fact is I'm running on 4x 220ah batteries for night till morning but I'm using 6x 200 watts mono panels to charge the batteries so the panels isn't enough to completely charge the batteries unless Im not drawing extra powers through the panels at all, the engineer who helped me set it up told me I need to add extra 6 200watts panels to charge the batteries and keep mining at the same time

Yep and as I said you simply do not understand the economics of selling the rx 580 for top dollar now today.

Even if you  hodl proceeds as cash or hodl as eth or buy replacement batteries.
the rx 580 is over priced and sells for $$$ on ebay

$450 and up is common price.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/PowerColor-Red-Devil-Radeon-RX-580-8gb-Gddr5/333950848343?

so unless you purchased it for top dollar less than 2  months ago you made full roi on it.

It makes 25mh-30mh  and as you say no power cost. (well it slowly kills your batteries and you will need new batteries in under 5 years)

so say 2.50 to 3 a day profit

it mined  60 days it makes back 150 to 180
it mined  90 days it makes back 225 to 270
it mines 120 days it makes back  300 to 360

how much did you buy the shit card (rx 580) for 200 300 400?
how much did you make back see my chart.

you can get 400-500 for it on ebay.

at some point you need to sell this card.

So rather than counter arguing with me.

How  about revealing the price you paid for it?
and how long have you mined it.

Remember the card sucks as you have admitted to more than once.

So selling it is easy to figure.
Selling it save you power.

The only questions you should ask your self are what to do with the 400 or so I get from it.  And is it worth it to see it  for 400-500

Well if you had it for years it is fully paid off.

if it clears 2.50 a day 160 x 2.50 = 400
if it clears 3 a day 160 x 3 = 480

You simply need to get between 400-480 and hold that as coin or cash. in 160 days if the market hold the same or tanks you were smart.

if the market whales well you still have 3x 1660tis.

With both ways you make out.

The idea to sell it and grab  a 1660 means you will lay out 200 to 300 as a 1660ti is 200 to 300 more.
You do not benefit even if the market goes up as a 1660 ti does very little extra hash than the rx580 you put 200-300 out of pocket for almost no real gain.

Running miners on solar requires some calculations, rx580 takes more power from the wall no doubt so I'd say you shouldn't have buy one in the first place, also I don't know the kind of solar setup you using but battery backups is always for the night till the sun rise again in the morning, I'm guessing you should work on your battery backup or do us a favour and drop your solar setup

You will not be able to use a 32 GB hard drive or flash drive for Windows mining.
For each video card, I set the paging file size to 8 GB. If the mining farm consists of 6 video cards, then the swap file will be 48 GB. Therefore, I recommend 120 GB as the minimum hard drive size for Windows.
For 4 years of mining, I have tested many systems for managing farms, Hive Os, in my opinion, is one of the best.
I will not convince you of my position, but today it is more convenient to use special Linux systems for mining.

1. Remove hdd from the PC and start loading OS either windows or linux straight from USB drive, 16gb recommended if going windows 10

2. If you can change that i5 cpu it will help, find something lower like pentium CPU instead, they are less power hungry

3. Use mini monitors for display like in picture below

1.To install Hive OS, an 8 GB flash drive is enough, for Rave OS - 4 GB. The price of flash drives for 8 and 16 GB is almost the same, but if you have 8 GB, then you do not need to buy 16 GB.

2. The processor has a power saving mode, and for simple tasks, most of the cores of the I5 processor will be disabled / inactive, so the consumption will not increase. But there is no point in using expensive processors in mining farms.

3. Why use a monitor on a mining farm? As a maximum, it is needed for the initial configuration, then the farm is managed through remote administration

That is if one wants to use Mining OS instead of windows 10 OS, to run a 64bit version of windows 10 OS on PC you need atleast 32gb pendrive, once those upgrades keeps coming the memory will get full in no time, yes Mining OS like hive is way better and more stable but some needs windows more than standalone mining OS like hiveOS

It seems you actually want to keep an extra card, what philipima told you makes lot of sense to me, lesser gpu equals to less power consumptions, changing CPU and RAM won't bring any difference, do like this, sell the rx580 right now and hold your money, in future when you had more solar panel and batteries you can buy more cards

you have what you have.

I am running 24/7/365 day on solar/battery as well two rigs.

Regarding the I5, its just enough that  you go to advanced energy saving in windows, processor, and set the" Max level" down from 100 to 95. Windows automatically adjust the bios setting and your TDP will go down from 95 to 45w with no visible degradation. It like you purchased the Intel Low Power Core i5 4670T instead of the regular I5 4670 95W

On the memory: If windows need memory, it will create virtual memory on the SSD. By doing so, its consuming MORE power than the one needed for the memory itself.  So, removing 4 gb doesn't seem a good choice.

Last, I don't understand all the discussion about  GOLD,Platinum PSU.

My Psu isn't Platinum 90 %, its 100 %

Because are you sure you need a PSU ?
I have a small PSU for the motherboard but  I have a 12 V direct exit from my battery pack that I use to power the Gpus and the raisers.

It doesn't make sense to convert from DC To AC and then from AC to DC again.
Hi skablast I'm happy to find someone running miners on solar panel, not everyone are into this today and many who don't understand much about it discouraged others from buying solar panels to mine, can you please share the exact solar setup you using and how much power your mining rigs are consuming?

For those talking about low CPU like celeron I don't think it will make lots of difference unless OP wants to mine crypto with CPU, I've done some testing between i5 and i3 and for that fact that they remain at 0% usage when mining they draw same power at idle, you won't be using these CPU to mine at all right? So don't expect any huge difference

Remove that i5 and get a pentium or a celeron CPU that consumes less power. Also try to find a motherboard with the maximum number of PCI slots if you are planning to add more GPU's. By the way those GPU are also pretty outdated. They are also part of your problem.

And get one of those:

https://www.amazon.com/P3-P4400-Electricity-Usage-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU/
😳GTX1660 Super is outdated? Are you for real? That gpu consumes less power mate, are there any new powerful gpu that runs under 100 watts today? A gtx1650 consumes 75watt and gtx1660 super consumes 120watts

My old 1070 is creating wonders too and that's because the prices are skyrocketing. I don't think they will stay like that forever. It will come down sooner than you think. In 2018 it was like that too then all crashed instantly and all those old hardware became useless and the rigs with the newer hardware survived. That was just my experience you do what you do. ;P

Removing RAM sticks doesn't really save much on power. They hardly consume any power. Most of the time they are sitting idle. Your best bet is to get a Platinum type of PSU. These are expensive but if you can find an old server PSU they are usually Platinum grade especially if you can run it under 240V.

There is a cost basis to consider here. Because these PSUs are expensive they might not be worth it in the long run, especially since you are trying to run on solar. So try to find some second hand server PSUs and you might be able to get them cheap. Usually people are getting rid of old Antminers they include the server PSU with purchase. Try and find those.

Since you plan on mining with solar you shouldn't have buy rx580 in the first place, you should have go with low power GPUs like gtx1650 and gtx1650 super or Ti, also I recommend removing the motherboard from the PC casing and get rid of the desktop fans leaving only the CPU cooling fan on, do not underestimate those fans they draw some power too

Do not believe whatever watt reading your miner software is showing you, that's not the actual power draw and the most energy consumption gpu on your list is that rx580, the Nvidia cards are less power hungry if compared to rx580, with rx580 your miner can say 75 watt but the real thing is rx580 will draw 100+ from the wall, here is two things you can do here

1. Remove hdd from the PC and start loading OS either windows or linux straight from USB drive, 16gb recommended if going windows 10

2. If you can change that i5 cpu it will help, find something lower like pentium CPU instead, they are less power hungry
