I received everything in the last couple of days and need some help setting this up. I'm taking the easy root and just trying to use BitMinter java client to start mining. I have 3 Enker USB Hubs - each hub is plugged into it's own USB port on the back of the mac mini.

1st USB Hub has 9 eruptors
2nd USB Hub has 9 eruptors
3rd USB Hub has 7 eruptors

When I start BitMinter I only get 6 going on the first hub / 3 on the second hub / 5 on the 3rd hub

Bitminter gives you the option to rescan for new devices but it doesn't find them. Tried switching them around changing the USB port it's connected to the back of the mac but can't get any more going.

Any ideas?

I was worried about the heat also. Those mini's can run really hot. Do you it connected to a HUB running USB miners? Would you use each USB port to connect to it's own USB hub or can you daisy chain the hubs?

you can connect the hubs making a chain (up to 60 erupters but i'm not sure), the only thing about it is the power. You need self powered hubs with at least 4 amps or above if you want to use all the ports available.

Thanks for all the information. Can't wait to play when everything arrives - guess that's half the fun in this hobby.

You don't need to remove the cover off a Mac Mini to cool it.   Roll Eyes  They're designed to run 24/7 at 35C ambient.

Well, based on my own experience, with the cover on the internal fan working much more, sometimes at top speed and the aluminum body gets very very hot, however without the cover and with the extra cooling the internal fan works only occasionally and the body remains only a little bit over the rooms temperature. Of course we are talking about long runs, in the past with a regular use of maybe 6-10 hours a day I only notice this kind of overheat and noisy fan when play for a while games with heavy 3D graphics.

Everything is set to arrive in the next 1-2 weeks. Has anyone done a setup with a mac mini before?

Need help when the equipment arrives

I have one of this mining 24/7 right now BUT: 1 I have boothcamp and windows 7 installed for mining with bfgminer
2 I remove the mini's cover and put the mac over a Cooler Master cooling pad

The mini is a wonderful machine but the heat management is not the best. If you have questions please let my know.  Wink

macminer is the simplest to get started with. also you will need more than 1 9 port hub for 25 miners Wink
