Just to updated you guys, the worst had happened, as it was confirmed that the body Chanchal Lahiri was found already still tied on the chain.

Chanchal Lahiri, 42, known by his stage name of Mandrake, went missing on Sunday after a ferry took him towards the broadest part of the Hooghly river in Kolkata at around noon. There, he was lowered by crane into the muddy waters with chains and ropes. Lahiri was inside a small, padlocked cage. His arms and legs were apparently tied and he was blindfolded.

“If I can open it up, then it will be magic, but if I can’t, it will be tragic,” he told the crowd.

Chanchal Lahiri was tied up with steel chains and rope and slowly lowered into the water for the escape stunt near the Howrah Bridge in Kolkata. He was expected to free himself and emerge out of the water, as he had done many times before.
But onlookers waited for about 30 minutes before launching a frantic search along the banks and in the water. They have so far been unable to find him.

I feel sad for this magician though, looks like he has run out of luck this time. From the said article, he looks professional, however, when you involved nature in your magic, it could be very 'tricky'.
