Perhaps now might be the time to lock this thread, or, if you are planning to keep the thread open, at least change the title to read "closed" or similar?

I take the blame for it. I had tried to make the competition with as much freedom to players as humanly possible. Continue gambling on their own sportsbook and with any stake they like. Sorry about not being able to conclude the contest and release the prize to the winners. Hopefully, I can find a resolution to that. That being said, let me be transparent on where I went wrong and how to take care of things if need be in the future.
With that being said, let me get to the issues that caused disruption of event.
- Should have taken some assistance while conducting. I was inspired to do it alone while having a regular and demanding job. I just couldnt keep up with the tasks after a few days. Should have asked for assistance from fellow forum members or my friends IRL.
- Even after I missed a few days calculations, I thought I could just catch up to it on my free day. Only to realize that some sportsbooks have expiry on the betslip urls. Which meant that I couldnt calculate the ROI, even if I wanted to, that became a huge challenge and I just couldnt consider going through it.

With that looming over my head and my job demanding 12 hrs work a day. Just had to put the contest as an afterthought. Should have been quick to call that and be transparent. Along with real life events (moving out, multiple family members deaths due to COVID). I couldnt keep the contest running. It is irresponsible of me for not being transparent on the spot and clearing things on how things were going on at the moment. I hope it never comes to that again. I will write personal notes to all contestants seeking my apology and see if we can ever come to a resolution.  

You may not have been paid to run a competition, however, your thread still contains the information that the there is a prize for the winner.  This alone enticed users to enter (note - that means entice users to gamble).  Regardless of their (gambler's) own outcomes, you have had a lack of transparency in the running of this competition.  Even now you're not providing information.

Yes, I was aware of it from the moment he woke up until he finally participated in the signature campaign. I'm actually no longer interested in discussing and bringing up his behavior, @vennali just left what this tournament had created without any information being provided. Although I've also said before that I may not be the winner, but as a user who hosted this tournament then @vennali should be able to provide some info that looks fair to know.

I have been wanting to update on the situation and what exactly happened to give it a closure. Keep in mind that I wasn't getting paid for conducting the tournament. I was trying to bring the sports betting community together and I had put in the time and effort to device a tournament and create all the content for it. By the end, I had failed to keep up while handling it alone.  I am to be blamed for it. Sorry for all the inconvenience caused by me. Will hear an update about it shortly.

Hi guys! I realise it's been a year since our competition has stopped due to the inactivity of the topicstarter... But I noticed recently that he keeps posting on the forum... I didn't qualify for a prize because I lost my bankroll, but I've placed over 60 bets in these competitions nevertheless... I don't want to seek justice, just want to hear something from vennali, and maybe from those who also played with their money...

I'm probably not the only one who doesn't have the motivation to go back and audit their wagers from more than six to eight weeks ago.  Besides, with my freebitco.in wagers, I'm not really sure anyone else can come along and review my bets, so it's just the various screen grabs people would have to rely on.

Congratulations to whomever manages to sort through the mess and is declared the winner.

Well that is easy then, ask them if they are still willing to pay out the winners and if affirmative organize among yourselves and proclaim winners.

I dropped out of the contest after just few games since I saw that score updates were lagging and was immediately afraid this would happen. I organized some contests with much smaller scopes and I know how much of hassle they were to grade. I believe vennali simply became a victim of underestimating the amount of work that needs to be put in projects like this and how that work gets multiplied with each day you lag behind. Now it will be even tougher to grade.

My proposal, everybody grades his own tickets and posts ROI here, somebody then just checks top 3 or whatever to see there was no foul play.

Few hours ago I got a response from the sponsor (Sporbet.one) and they told me that vennali didn't claim the funds since he became inactive after the contest ended.

This has become very messy.

Has anyone been in-contact with the sponsor and confirmed one way or the other as to whether or not any prize money changed hands ?? Or, it was just an undertaking with payment to be made once a winner was declared?

Yeah right I guess there's no point in counting them all anymore but if to find out who won it might be good too although maybe no prizes will be credited as long as the vennali doesn't come back.

Hopefully there is information that can be obtained from Sportbet.one regarding this tournament.

The bet slip on the related gambling site may have disappeared, but calculations can still be made by checking the screenshot evidence and checking it on the football live scores and results service.

I've checked some links yesterday and unfortunately it seems that all the betslips from Stake are not anymore available, so I think it will be very hard to verify the outcomes of the 14 pages/275 posts of betslips  Moreover there are now very little chances to hear again from Vennali or sportbet.one IMHO 

I could tally things up if needed since everything is posted on the betting thread, the only thing we need is OP's presence since he's the one behind it all.

Anyway Sportbet.one seems to be active recently so I gave them a pm and hopefully we'd get a response.

What do you mean? We have been both victims and culprits of this so called "scam"? To be guilty you need to know you are doing something wrong and I don't think anyone here had any doubt about this game and vennali. He looked like to be a serious guy and I don't see the point of doing that because now the reputation of the sportsbook and his own reputation are hurt. Moreover you seem to accuse the bookie but how do you know they didn't send the prize to him and he kept it for himself? (This is just a question, I'm not implying he did it)

It is likely that in certain circumstances, neutral feedback should be changed to a red tag, (if the regulars of this thread do not get unambiguous answers). I remember how this competition started, and it looked like this thread was under the auspices of the Sportbet.one. Now, it really seems to me that this was some kind of trick to save a couple of marketing dollars, since no one in their right mind would do it for free (considering how OP has repeatedly emphasized the importance of Sportbet.one). If so, then each member of this thread through the fault of OP became for some time a "shill" for this bookmaker.

If I had known it would end up like this I would have probably stopped betting when I reached the required bet amount and to be honest, I'm very sorry to spend my balance on Sportbet.one. But by the way, if they cooperate then at least when the OP doesn't make an update at least the prizes are still available on Sportbet.one as a sponsor and also, at least there are updates or any information made from the sponsors right, about the prizes that might have been prepared? instead of ending it like this, it's not clear where all of them are, where is the prize, who is the winner, etc.

Lol, I participated in this contest when the OP informed about the sponsor and I am willing to join. I don't care if I lose but at least this contest ends more clearly, I've been waiting every day for the updates I hoped for the past few days, but I prefer to forget about this contest after I no longer see any updates. Also, I didn't get any info from sponsors regarding this competition, even though I was using the site until I spent my budget there.

I remember that op had serious reasons for the delays due to the pandemic, but have there been any updates? I can see that my bets stats weren't updated since March, with only 3 bets fully accounted for... Is it the same for others with no updates over these months? After all, it wasn't a purely for-fun contest, there was a prize pool announced. I can see that vennali hasn't been active since May 19 on the forum which is worrisome.
Perhaps the casino that sponsored the contest could step up and provide updates? At least a date by which to expect all the calculations to be processed would be nice...

All of my wagers have come and gone long ago (my Academy Awards wagers were hopeless and not worth waiting for).   It pains my to say I don't think I'll participate again given I had to change gambling sites because most participants couldn't comprehend the bets I'd placed on freebitco.in - your loss, not mine.

If you guys are willing to list all of your bets then you can easily find your ROI with the help of a betting tracker.

During the tournament I used this spreadsheet I found from reddit, everything is automated you just have to list every details of your bet and the instructions are pretty straightforward.

Yes it would be best to finish it soon somehow, but if we had to re-quote all the bets to make calculations easier I guess that's a good idea too. Because after all, at least you need a partner or assistant to manage this tournament, so that when you are busy at least there are still friends who will provide updates regarding this tournament.

vennali, perhaps there could be some system arranged so that we could make the process of counting easier for you? For instance, we could send screenshots encompassing the outcomes of the bets we've made and the win amounts in private messages or load them somewhere else. Or make some lists of the bets we've made by, say, quoting all the posts with screenshots into one post (so, for instance, I would take my posts with screenshots and make a new unified post that includes info from all of those, thus putting all of my bets in one place)?

But I agree with you it would have been certainly more easy to handle for vennali if the contest had taken place onto a sportsbook or if rules of the tournament had been more stringent.

Well, that's what I considered at the beginning when the tournament didn't have a sponsor, because tournaments like this had existed in the past but were held on one site or at the sponsor itself, so the tournament had its own page on the sponsor's site and it made the count happen automatically which of course the tournament is becoming and looks very attractive. But yes, I also realized @vennali has a lot to do, but coming back to the tournament itself because after all the tournament has to look more exciting. So yes, before moving on to the next round I think everything needs to be prepared more carefully and better so that this tournament becomes more interesting and fun.

I havent requested for a round 2 as of now. I have my hands full due to unexpected circumstances. However, the reception from the bitcointalk community and from sportbet.one has been warm and appreciative. I am considering those bets for the final tally in the tournament and the prizes will be distributed accordingly respecting the bets placed in time. Thank you all for participating. Well Timelord2067 I'm not sure Sportbet.one has made big amounts of money with this contest since only few people used this sportsbook to place their bets during the contest obviously. So it's just wishful thinking to expect a second round from sportbet.one and Vennali in my opinion, people will need to organize it themselves if they want it IMO.

I wouldn't be the the only one who has wagers going to the end of April.  I don't recall there being a stipulation that if the bets were posted prior to the end of the first month being counted _even_though_ they are days/weeks away and just figured that there would be another round given, as i just said, I wouldn't be the only one who has bets in the coming days or weeks.

Anyone know what the OP's thoughts on this competition are?

It'll definitely be more enjoyable as the experience would probably be similar to the multimaster weeks we had on the sportsbet thread. I tried to offer some help during the first week since I also keep track of my bets with my own table but vennali didn't respond to my post.

I don't understand what you mean, you want to organize a Round two? That's what you are saying? It would be a free contest like this one or contestants would need to pay an entrance fee? It would be open to everybody or only reserved to the "round one" participants?

Thanks a lot for the heads up on the start and end dates. I reckon that I would have enjoyed the competition more if the stats were updated in real time so I know how I fare against other participants. That way, I can keep it in mind and make informed decisions. I wouldn't blame @vennali too. It isn't an easy jobs to manually make these updates as quickly as possible. Majority of the times I look at the stats sheet, it's nearly the same since the first time I saw it.

At least the competition will end in one more day and also, the stats are not updating because I check them every day, just to see how things are going. But so far maybe @vennali will count it when the competition is over.
Basically I like this competition, but if the calculations are done manually like this, I think the competition will be unattractive.

The competition started on 15th of March and I'm expecting it to end tentatively on 15th of April which is a few days from today (I might be wrong). Anyway, I haven't been that much active since the competition started due to other engagements I have in the real world and like you, my stats haven't been updated so I don't know where that puts me. But before the competition comes to an end, I'm making a last minute push to get to bets in and hopefully enough wins to get me closer. With a little more than one day left till the end of the competition, I've passed the 20 bet threshold today. How about you, are there still people like me who haven't been making lots of bets here?
I'm also wondering about the stats. Mine were only updated for my first 11 bets, and the win/loss column was updated only for the first 3 bets that I placed for this competition. I can see that there are others whose stats weren't updated for a while as well, but I guess it's understandable that it's an overwhelming amount of work for one person, so no worries there. It's just that without actively updated stats, it's very hard to see how everyone's doing so far, and how close or far from winning the competition I am in comparison with others.
I won 9/14 bets that were already settled if I'm not mistaken, but they were largely on pretty low odds, so I have no idea where this puts me.

There had been 3 draws on 13 matches this evening : France-Ukraine 1-1, Finland-Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-2 and Cyprus-Slovakia 0-0. That represents 23% of matchs.
If you want to avoid draws on Stake you have the Draw No Bet and the Asian Handicap 0 to get a voided bet in case of a draw, the Double Chance and the AH +0.5 to get a winning bet in case of a win of your team or a draw, the AH +0.25 to get at least half of your winnings in case of a draw and the AH -0.25 to lose only half of your stake in case of a draw.  

Same here, I had a good start after hitting one of my parlays then after that its all downhill with the losses for me (currently on a 5 losing streak).

As much as I want to bet on the World cup matches it's probably best for me to skip them since my gut tells me there will be a lot of draws and I don't have a lot of knowledge on most of the teams. Good luck to all you guys though.  

Every day there will always be any matches for us to bet on but yes, with a world cup qualifying match it certainly adds another interest in betting so I think it's a challenge because betting on a match between clubs and national teams is something different.

Got killed on march madness the other day, especially Tennessee (guess that's why it's madness). Probably doing too many parlays for the contest and should be doing single bets (oh well, having fun). Betting on ESPN UFC tonight. Parlayed Tuivasa under 1.5 rounds and Holland ml.

I think Tai Tuivasa-Harry Hunsucker will end quickly.
Tai Tuivasa's replacement opponent tonight Harry Hunsucker (https://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Harry-Hunsucker-239513) in all his past 10 fights never leaves the first round. Tai Tuivasa to win @1.21, Tai Tuivasa by ko/tko/dq/sub @1.36, under 1.5 rounds @1.36, and Tai Tuivasa to win in the first round @1.7 seem fairly likely. Puncher's chance has Harry first round @11.0, Harry by ko/tko/dq/sub @5.5. It seems more likely that Tuivasa wins based on experience, and if you look at Tuivasa's past (https://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Tai-Tuivasa-133745) most of of his wins happen in the first round. But Tuivasa has only won 1 of last 4 fights. He's facing an unfamiliar opponent. There's a small chance Tuivasa doesn't do enough in the first round to finish Hunsucker, and stops him in the second round (Tuivasa to win second round @6.5 seems to be value for that chance, but will it even get there).

Holland is younger (28, Brunson is 37), has been more active (5-0 in 2020 vs Brunson's 1-0), has a 4 inch reach advantage, and appears more confident. Brunson has good wrestling and frequently ends fights after taking down opponents, but Holland appears to have decent defensive wrestling, and is able to pose a threat from all positions. I think the longer the fight goes the more advantage Brunson will have, and he will want to basically win rounds by wrestling/dominant position. I'm banking on Holland to win the striking battle, and to ko/tko early, or win enough rounds by being more offensive in a close decision.

I guess wrestling is the most important martial art in the UFC, and generally should bet more on the fighter with the better wrestling credentials who can control where the fight goes. Unfortunately several contestants are still not posting the ID of their bets, nor providing any link toward their betslips. I think they should be seriously warned now, because that's unfair for other contestants who are placing real bets with their own money.  

Yes I got a few bracket entries on Nitro and I also have them in one of my brackets but it's looking unlikely with Oregon State dominating in every way possible.

On a side note, I really like Watford @1.6 at home tomorrow and i'll probably include them on a parlay since they need to maintain their lead against Swansea.

I'm locked into betting with freebitco.in in part because other gambling sites block users from Australian I.P. addresses - so I'm relyant on the games that they offer bets on.  (they did have the Rugby Six Nations for one round).  With TX fees they way they are shifting funds around isn't too advisable at the moment.

I'm just playing catch up here - My name isn't on the google spread sheet - I put down a couple of bets (that didn't win) on the first thread and had a couple of bets (that did win - but alas I never put them on any thread).  Is my starting purse still what it was in the other thread?  Or, is it what it is now?

As long as the Bet ID is visible and you can prove that it was a bet made on your account (if someone asks/objects). I am fine with it. It will be helpful if your sportsbook has the post betslip feature as I can just click on the betslip to know the result of it. Instead of searching for them over the internet.

No Trofo, you seem to be wrong actually. If you look at the first betslip of buwaytress on Sportsbet, for example, you will still see the result of the bet(lost here). So I think it should be mandatory for every sportsbooks offering this feature in order to allow other contestants to check the validity of the bets and to avoid fake ones.

I am not posting them since betslip link on Sportsbet is quite useless for your purposes. Link is valid just until first game starts. They are meant as a way to easy share bet slip so other people can play same thing.

No, I will verify either the betslips. If not, then just go through official results of each event and update the google sheets. Trofo is trying to be helpful by telling me the result, so that I do not have to search for it. The only requirement for you is to register(which you already did) and then post the betslips(looking forward to it). Rest of it, I'll take care.

Yes, I've been adding participants as they make their bets and I take the data regarding starting stack from the form participants have filled. Do not worry, as long as you've registered and shared bets, your name will pop up in the next 24hrs. Just the screenshot with necessary details is sufficient but if you'd like to be helpful. I'd appreciate official result pages or match details page so that I can quickly search up the results and update the spreadsheet.

I'm sorry I didn't share betslips and didn't write the odds separately in my post. I've noticed that some do that and others don't, so I wasn't sure. Is a screenshot enough, or should I share betslips from next time as well?
I was planning on betting largely on EPL matches, but the next round just seems so difficult for me that I threw in a couple of other games as well.

My apologies. I had a feeling that I missed something. Anyways, would have figured it out while I was going to grade bets and update ROI.

Yeah, most of the bets on day 1 were for Liverpool vs Wolves. Liverpool have been underperforming at home but have been in good form away(surprising) and it worked out for them once again. I wanted to bet on Liverpool to win but was a bit scared of it since Wolves are a good team as well.

Yep, it will not be easy to win since there is some strong competition. I do hope more people join in though making it even stronger.

Also regarding the spreadsheets. Do let me know if there's any more info that you'd like to know. There are 19 registrants for the tournament but I have created a new sheet(which is shared with everyone) that I'm adding them after a registrant shares a screenshot on games and rounds. So far, 9 contestants have placed bets on day 1, which have been updated.

It looks like among entries there is a consensus around Liverpool to win or draw today against Wolverhampton. I just registered my interest to participate in the competition. I'll be waiting for the competition to officially kick off (if it hasn't already). This would be my first tipster competition and I'm looking to compete actively for the prize and hopefully get to win not just my bets but the prize too. Let's see how it goes. This should be fun.

Games and Rounds is probably the only section on the forum where spam should be okay. I don't want contestants to edit their bets because there's a possibility of removing, adding a bet while the game is in favor of a contestants bet. I'll give you an example. Let's say you bet on Rockets vs Celtics and 76ers vs Spurs. You bet on 76ers vs Spurs pre match and posted the bet while you also bet on celtics -11 vs rockets but didnt post the bet because you wanted a competitive edge and see how the first quarter started. Lets say Boston started great and and are up 5 point in the first quarter itself. Now, you are like "Hey! my bet will most likely win. Let me just edit the bet and add Boston's game as well" since you bet on it pre-match. Later you can cover up the editing by adding another game so that it looks like youve edited your post for a new bet.

As discussed before, by me, haha, this tourney doesn't really seem to benefit my particular style of betting (I go long odds, and have a low win percentage) but nevertheless, am going to flex my muscles;) Check out my first entry -- just one question, vennali: we shouldn't edit to add new betslips though, right? Just make new posts? I'd rather not spam... but maybe some slips entered after first one settle?

The thread in Gambling section was to be used as an announcement for the tournament as it is the appropriate section for it. While this thread was created so that the contestants and others who might be interested could discuss and ask questions regarding the tournament as well as the sports they bet on. Which may not be appropriate on the other thread to discuss. There will be 3rd thread that will be posted in games and rounds, which would be the appropriate place to share screenshots for the tournament. This thread was also created with the intention to attract more sports bettors on the forum who otherwise might not have looked into the gambling board (which was suggested by a few people).

I will share the spreadsheet when the tournament gets rolling. Feel free to discuss about it here.

The numbers are slowly growing and the tournament will start whatever be the number on 15th March. However, I have noticed that there are a few bettors who are interested but would like to observe how the tournament will function for a few days to form strategy, or just the management, learning of the rules aspect. For them, the tournament registration will be open at least  a week after the commencement of the tournament. So, they still have a chance to register, the drawback for them being having lesser days and events to bet on as the days go by.

I wasnt really surprised to see the low number of participants. Lots of accounts in gambling / gambling discussion are not gamblers at all. The number of actual gamblers in this section is pretty low and not to mention those small number of gamblers have their own preferences. Most will choose slots, dice and stuff ( pure luck gambling ) , some others are probably going for poker and the rest would be sportsbetting

@Vennali : Whats with the double thread ? You might want to move the main thread in gambling section into this sub section after the competition roll for everyone to discuss about this because that thread seems to be getting alot more attention

Also it would be great if you could list spreadsheet with all registered players in it, as well as their bankroll and site preferences.

The contest is delayed because like vennali said there was not as much response as anticipated and I hope a lot of players will take part in this contest because its free to enter and I guess the only reason why not many participants are joining is because they don't know about this one. Now since this is being discussed in the Gambling Discussion section, which I believe is the best and most active section of the forum, a lot of players should get to know and eventually join the contest.

I was of the opinion that "King of Bitcointalk" was a better title but I have no problems with the other one too. Thanks vennali for holding this contest and I wish there are some sponsors who can help you out with this one.

I mean, Lets say you win a tennis(or whatever sport you like) tournament. Do you take your trophy to every place you go? Probably no is the answer. You can keep it as memorabilia. There are a lot of tipsters on the forum. They could use it on their threads for display. Anyways, not everyone is here on the forum for signature campaigns. If you take more pride in being the best at a tournament(which you should), then might as well  display it as your avatar.

Banner and avatar is good and all but considering that there will be users that are doing campaign signatures, I think that the banner and avatar will not be the best of them all, maybe if you can persuade campaign managers to have the winner wear the banner and avatar without being in conflict with the campaign that they are participating, I think that it can work. I wanted to join but I haven't done betting in a long while and I want to stay that way, anyways good luck with your tournament and hopefully a lot of users are going to join this, 600 USD is a lot of money.

Had created this thread so that the contestants can discuss the competition here. I had to delay the tournament by 1 week since the no. of participants registered was very underwhelming. I will take this extra week to invite more participants and hopefully we have a healthy number before the start of the tournament.

Regarding if this is the place to post screenshots? No, I will create a thread on games and rounds for that. Which would be apt for sharing screenshots.

I'm asking because the details and many questions were already discussed in another thread, but you've mentioned there that you'd soon create the thread where we're going to post our screenshots. Yes it is still open and gearing up to start from 15th March. At the moment, I have calculated min. 20 bets should be good to iron out the graph of luck vs skill. Some luck does help but here we are mostly looking at the skill of the participants when it comes to sports predictions. Parlays are allowed as long as all the matches in the parlay start after you have posted the screenshot on the forum. Maybe just register for now and see how it goes. 2 bets in 3 days on average isnt too high to be honest. Some people have even asked what if we make 20 bets in 1-2 days haha. Which is fine too. Is it still open? Looks fun. I do better than average in terms of betting. Maybe I can just use this tourney to find out my ROI for a month. Does it have to be 20? can you lower it please? I'm sure I can make 20 bets in a month but would be easier if I had no pressure of betting almost everyday on me. So I can just play it safe. No min odds is good. What about parlays? are they allowed?
