The heartbleed bug could have compromised private keys from root certificate authorities. Trust in the security of browser-based crypto will be diminished, with the side effect of less trust of other cryptographic technologies such as crypto-currencies. Bearish for Bitcoin.

You think CAs would not patch openssl if they used one?  It is a simple recompile to remove the heartbeat extension or apply a patch and recompile.

Bitstamp installed new certs today, check for yourself.

Ok thanks i will check it.

is it ponzie, fonsie, fonzie, lonzie, or conzie?

I always get them mixed up.

Wrongzie?  about to get his (short) shorts squeezed.

I´m honoured that you all care about me. But i started shorting @ 820(follow my history) . I made a pervert amount of money with it.
Everything is ok with me. Don´t be scared. My latest short position that i took ~503 will close automatically if we should go near 500$.

If something goes wrong, then it really goes wrong, putting them in a situation with almost no way out.

That is because with regular investing, you buy X amount and the most you can lose is what you invested (100%.) With short-selling, there is a limit on what you can gain, because the value of whatever you are short-selling can only go down to zero. However, if it goes UP, you can be royally screwed as it can theoretically go up an infinite amount.

STATEMENT REGARDING OPENSLL VULNERABILITY
Dear Bitstamp clients,

After reported vulnerabilities in OpenSSL, we applied necessary patches to our system. Incapsula, our DDOS mitigation provider is still working patching their system.

In order to provide required security, both system need to be patched. We are in constant contact with Incapsula and are working with them to complete necessary procedures. Until then Bitstamp has decided to temporally deactivate:

-account registration,
-account login
-and all virtual currency withdrawal functions

We will keep you updated on the progress.

Thank you for understanding.

Best regards
Bitstamp team

This is probably SPOT ON.

PS: Don't confuse Fonzie with Fonsie, unlike Fonzie, Fonsie does have enough fiat to INVEST in BTC long term, and the whole SSL bug affects the entire internet, some say it even affects dog shit, if the dog wishes to do it securely...

seriously what the fuck is wrong with this guy
The guy is short selling BTC.
Shortsellers profit from price crashing a lot because of the leverage.
If BTC price suddenly goes up, they can lose everything unless they have set up a stopless to minimalize their loses.
From stasitic information, shortsellers are mostly people who don't have enough money to invest in the real value of stocks or in this case BTC itself.
You don't need much money to gain a huge potential profit because of the leverage.
The downside is, they overestimated themself and invested more than they can afford to lose.
If you look at the stock markets, most of the bankers or traders who commit suicide are shortsellers.
If something goes wrong, then it really goes wrong, putting them in a situation with almost no way out.

A shortseller usually will try to talk the market down, manipulating information or even planting false information into the world to disgrace the company they are shorting.
Bitcoin is no difference than a stock registered at Dow Jones, Nasdaq, Hangseng or the Dutch AEX.
If you see their posting frequency is going up and they are using a lot of different sources with a complete different view of the situation, then you have to sell or wait untill the shit is over.
They try to enlarge the fear to create a bigger fall of the stock they are shorting.

If you see their posting frequency is going up and they are keep repeating their posts without adding something new (when there is no new information available), or when they changing the information in their benefit and spreading FUD
They are in trouble, they try to change the direction to benefiet themself.

Most of the shortsellers are in trouble at this moment, the price is doing nothing untill after 15 april
They even start to post in localize subforums to create fear using Google translator to attract more viewers.
Google translator, Bing or whatever translator they are using don't translate accurate between Chinese caracters and the Roman alfabet.
Even between Roman alfabets, the translation if often funny.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcoin-561416
The Chinese don't use bitcointalk.org as a bitcoin forum, they have their own version like they have Weibo for Twitter, WeChat for WhatsApp, Baidu for Google and so on.
Most of them can't read English and when they do, most of them have a basic level of understandig English.

The more we approach 15 april and nothing will happens in the meantime, the more desperate they will be.
Creating more FUD and anything between, somehow it is funny how dumb they look at the end.
Shortsellers don't care if you lose money, they will sell anyone out, even if it is their own mother to talk their way out.
Most of the people here are for personal gain, so we are not that different, but for some people their are limits.

There are not much options left until after 15 april when it becomes clear if the rumors are true or not.
Sit tight and wait untill it is over.
Sell your BTC if you can stand the heat until after 15 april.
Talk your way up with FUD
Talk you way down with FUD

Once again people rather choose to question my personality instead of facing and dsicussing the facts that right now a lot of the exchanges are having problems. How will you feel if Bitcoin goes down to 100$ and you can´t sell because it´s not possible to login at Bitstamp?

Yes, but luckily they pay in BTC, would have been stupid standing there with all FIAT now that the banking ponzi comes crashing down because of SSL bug.

Since you obviously know my employer... Can I ask who yours is? For spreading all these false FUD posts of yours?

All major banking sites are going down as we speak, convert fiat to BTC while you still can, tomorrow could be too late, only bitcoin is safe because of SSL bug.

GREAT DEAL FOR ANYBODY WHO´S NOT USIN BITSTAMP THROUGH API. THEY CAN´T EVEN REMOVE THEIR BUY ORDERS WHILE YOU HAPPY FUCK DUMP INTO THEM. BAD KARMA FOR YOU!
Uh i just got fonzied, i feel quite honored Grin Anyway i am holding just like throughout all the last days. Way too less volume to make decent trades and also no clear trend on a larger scale. Anyway:
Hazek has addressed Bitstamps vunerability in the Bistamp thread.

In summary he says that the reason they come up as vunerable is most likely due to their anti DDoS provider as they have patched their back end. Logins as well as withdraws disabled until they confirm.

The test site did error with a couple of sites, namely huobi.com and campbx.com

A bit more detail lifted from the article for the lazy :
Quote
Exploiting Heartbleed, an attacker could access the RAM of affected systems, allowing them to see up to 64 kilobytes of data at a time – enough to build up enough knowledge to access a system’s secret keys. Those keys are used to encrypt and decrypt sensitive traffic and identify service providers.

IF YOU WANT TO CONTRIBUTE PLEASE WRITE CAPS-ALL ONLY AS THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE!
