Who cares if your friends are online? I mean, it's a forum, not some sort of chat service!

I think he wants to make this forum a social network. You can chat with others using ICQ, AIM, MSN, YIM and Skype. So why you need that in BT? If you want to chat, you can use BT++ script but you will have to wait sometime as you need at-least 180 activity.
Forum must stay always as forum not social network.

I don't think we need a friends list that's not very important and we have much more things which need to be added to the new forum software.
I think you need to make a friends list with an online/offline indicator.

No, dont make this reddit. If you like reddit so much, well there is reddit. I like boards. I am here because I like boards. I am not on reddit because I dont like "like this", "downvoted" bullshit. If you dont like a topic, just ignore it. Either you are alone with your opinion or it will vanish anyway. Noone (IMHO) cares if you do not like a certain topic, let those that like it and care about it discuss it.
You can ignore people so their topics will be greyed out. The most efficient way for me personally to see less BS is to watch boards and unwatch topics I dont want to read. That way I know about every new post in the sections I care about and can easily hide those I dont care about.

Just imagine the spam if such a thing would get implemented. The current way, by generating a QR code is working great. The QR code is generate, then the person who wants to requests the payment can send it by any means of his choosing, from email to printing it on a business card.

I doubt any such changes will be added to the current version of the forum; the newer version is getting all of the attention at the moment.
Still, what you're asking with the friends list and status is probably more appropriate for skype/gtalk/whatever, than a btc forum. Just add the people there.
