Agreed, I'm not overly dumb but it took me good 20 minutes to figure it out, eventually someone at #bitcoin enlightened me. What's more, limit (5 posts/4 hours) is somehow annoying, I've spent far more than that as a lurker, and now got to litter here so I can join discussion in other threads. I mean, if I was going to spam or troll this forum, that limit wouldn't stop me, not too hard to leave page on autorefresh for few hours, and then make 5 stupid posts.

If I realized I needed 4 hours of logged in time I would have made an account months ago. I think the point of the 4 hour limit is to keep someone from making a large number of accounts.

How about replacing the reply button with a link to the newbie forum until they reach the quota. Not having a button at all for newbies on most forums is just confusing.

This definitely needs to be addressed

Perhaps the creators of this forum were thinking this would ensure a minimum level of intellegence in their users...it took me about a week to figure out! Embarrassed

the kind of annoying thing was that this information was not plastered at the TOP LINE of the lincense agreement, or somewhere else prominent.

It is near the top of the "agreement".

Most retarded forum administration ever, that's for sure. They might be very clever on programming or some other thing, but they understand shit about life or how to manage a forum. I would risk to say that they need to get out of their moms' basement more often.

Sadly this isn't a new complaint.
It's a very valid one though!

I whinged about this ages ago and nothing happened.
It's a shit-awful way to treat new members, but I don't think the people who run this forum care.

I am by no means a "noob" when it comes to forums.  Given the level of complexity, research, and kid of "semi-underground" status of the bitcoin community, we can probably assume that MOST of the users of this forum also have frequented many many forums in their lifetime of internet usage.

the principle that noobs must post in an "introductory" part of the forum, write an "essay" to for consideration of membership, etc. are all nothing new or unheard of.

the kind of annoying thing was that this information was not plastered at the TOP LINE of the lincense agreement, or somewhere else prominent.

I have no problem doing this, I just wish I didnt spend 2 and half hours trying to figure out why my account wasnt working before I stumbled upon an unrelated post in an unrelated search.

That being said, I am here to keep in touch with members of the BTC community who are unwilling to set up secure email accounts or use PGP.  I find it surprising that some service operators (cough bitcoinfog cough) do not simply utilize PGP + hushmail, but instead (so far) require that all communications be performed THROUGH THIS FORUM.

they have no other means of communication, or at least none that are easily identifiable from their Onion page or thie regular page, or their forum post here, or any of the review pages created for them.

I will do my diligence to get to the minimum rank, but my goal here is to get in touch with Bitcoinfog.

Its also important to have a presence in the bitcoin community, but I will be the first to admit:  I am a user, not a developer. I won't be mining, I wont be developing, I will be USING bitcoins.  I am a simple person with simple ambitions.
