Many times a good router costs over 200 and a good firewall is also costly.

The pc can be found under 150 a cheap monitor under 50. comes to 200

if he only connects to the one pc from his house and his cellphone  anydesk is free service.

Some small home firewall / routers have a VPN server built in. There are several Asus and Linksys that allow this. Not knowing were you are and which ones are available where you are I can't advise on models.

All the better security products like SonicWall / Cisco have VPN ability too. This way all you have to do is connect to the router and you have access to the network behind it.

If you have a static IP address you could port-forward the router to your miner/s, but that could compromize their security, so if networking isn't your thing, then it's a high-risk move, I have to agree with phill that the only easy and "safe" workaround is via an external PC and some sort of remote managent software such as teamviewer.
