For those of you that don't know about Manna, which I assume is most since it's still an obscure coin, it's a coin that is supposed to function as a universal basic income. In other words, anyone can sign up, verify their identity and receive coins. They're currently traded on a single exchange.

Yesterday they launched their full website and set a date for the first payment: 1. March.

UBI is a controversial concept. It has been trialed many places. Recently a one year report came from Finland showing that their UBI experiment has been a success and did not cause people to stop working.

Regardless of how you view UBI, I think this is a brilliant way of doing it. By making their own digital currency that anyone can receive and that can be traded and sold for your own national currency, The Manna Foundation doesn't have to convince governments to provide UBI, because they're already providing it themselves.

Convincing people and governments to accept UBI requires a lot of activism and is time consuming. The beauty of the Manna Project is that people just have to sign up and spread the word. Even people who are neutral or against UBI may end up joining simply because they'll receive free income. It uses human self-interest to further an altruistic goal.

What do you think? Is UBI good or bad? Will this project tank or does it have potential?
