Please let me know what you are able to find. I have extreme difficulty recreating this, but when it happens it always hits me in an uncomfortable place. It has happened on multiple occasions, it never makes sense and whenever I want to recreate it, I have too much trouble.

You're right though, this forum moves at a relaxed pace; takes some time for things to get done.

I haven't noticed this before, I'll give it a try when I can.

Let me tell you that it may take some time but there are results too.
Here is a fresh example:
Forum feature request: set Alt-text by default for all embedded images

The same was with LoyceV's application for merit source. It takes a lot of bumping but at the end a positive results Wink

Good luck.

I didn't realize 3018 was the official release date. Maybe at that time my prayers will be answered. Until then, I will try to figure out whether or not it is worth my time to continue bumping this thread and discussing the issue. Probably won't be something that carries into the new software, and it doesn't seem like this is something that bothers many people or something that even gets noticed by anybody. Oh well, I suppose I'll keep trying until I at least hear something definitive on the subject.

Bump for the sake of discussion

Especially considering they are working on new forum software and probably not worried too much about this software any longer (outside of security).
Which will be released in 3018. Cheesy
Don't let your hopes down, you can keep trying, you have got nothing to lose here. Maybe keep bumping this thread everyday and who knows your prayers would be answered..  Smiley

That's probably a very safe assumption to make. I was just wondering if anybody else was able to recreate what I am experiencing. Plus, if a staff had any kind of input, as in if this were purposefully implemented, then that would also be nice to hear. I might just end up locking this topic, since it doesn't seem like something that is a bother to anybody else. I guess I'll just accept this is a pet peeve that nobody else cares much about. It's not like it obstructs any functionality, as I've said earlier, so I probably should assume that this will not get "fixed". Especially considering they are working on new forum software and probably not worried too much about this software any longer (outside of security).

That warning message could be linked to the watchlist, so that once that message is satisfied then it will also satisfy the watchlist "read/unread" status.
Only theymos can do something about it and usually theymos takes action when a lot of people want it to happen, or maybe not. Also not a lot of people use the watchlist, so maybe what you're asking for will never be considered.

I believe we are not doing the same thing.

It's not something that is functionally upsetting. Not like it actually stops me from doing anything important. I'm just slightly peeved by the fact that the Message, alerting me of the new replies disappears after I re-click "preview", so it must have acknowledged in some way that I've seen the post.

Anyhow, why do you go to the watchlist when you're already on your thread?
Watchlist is for watching the topics when you're not viewing anything and to check around if anyone has replied to the topics you're interested in.

I just like to test out different things. See what's new, maybe there will be more for me to add into my post, something like that.

When you get the warning message, only your current thread reloads, and the watchlist is in assumption that you haven't read those replies which is why the thread yet remains on your watchlist .

That warning message could be linked to the watchlist, so that once that message is satisfied then it will also satisfy the watchlist "read/unread" status.

I'm not sure if we actually are doing the same thing. I'm referring to when you read a thread through the preview-mode.

I'll be typing up a response to a post, and then someone new will post in that same thread before I get to click "post". When I click post I get the message :

"Warning - while you were typing 3 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post."

Then, when I go to my Watchlist the thread appears as unread, even though I had just seen the new posts in Preview, and after clicking "post".

I read the thread and it disappeared from my watchlist. Can you check again and see what happened?

Alright there is no v-link feature in the watchlist,I did my check. My bad.
Now back to your issue,I tried doing the same thing that you did,but in my case, the thread did disappear aka I read the thread and it disappeared from my watchlist. Can you check again and see what happened?

I am confused then, if this is the case. My watchlist almost never shows me the "visited link" status; when I read a thread it disappears completely from my watchlist until it has been replied to again. For example, if I mark them as read manually they will disappear from the list until a new reply is made.

Do I have some weird settings? I would honestly prefer it to appear as you have explained, but this is not the case for me. If it just went between bold and regular, this would be better for me to manage and would take care of the issue I am describing. For some reason, the only way I can get a watchlist thread to show as a "visited link" is if I do some preview post-mode things mentioned already.

Is your watchlist constantly filled with the threads you watch and switch  between v-link and bold? This is what mine looks like currently :

I have dozens of threads on my watchlist, and can see them all if I click "edit watchlist", but normally they disappear unless there is a new reply. It sounds like yours operates differently.

Bill I think you're confused here. This is a watch list, your thread will appear even if you read it. As per the image the v-link(visited link) is activated. That means you did read the thread and the forum took that into note.

The difference on how to know whether you have read a topic or not is here:
When some one makes a new thread or reply, you'll see that topic like this:

And when you read it and come back the topic would be like this:

You'll see that the color of the link has changed from bold to normal. This is because you visited the link.

I believe this is what your confusion is? Or did I get it wrong?

I haven't tested this, but wouldn't your final post cause the thread to be marked as read?
I've just done a quick test, and I had to refresh the window to see it flagged as read.

Yes, it would, but sometimes you go do a little research around the forum to make sure your answer is proper while you're editing and now I'm always being distracted thinking I have a new post to read when I do not. It is just an extra couple seconds here and there, but sometimes you don't immediately click "Post"; this seems to be my case more and more lately.

That is probably why this has gone without any significant discussion, most people don't bother even checking because they regularly just click post.

Apparently I was wrong
Posting in my own thread, it appears to remain unread on some circumstances. Which confuses me doubly.

Anybody else notice this, able to recreate this or even think it is negligible? Just starting to become a pet-peeve of mine, now that I've noticed it I can't unsee it.

This is a small suggestion and I can't find it being discussed anywhere else as of yet (although I am horrid at search engines, somehow), but I was replying to a topic in Preview-Post, editing and writing it up as I do; then I clicked preview again to review my changes and it informed me that a new reply has been posted while writing my reply. I read the reply, made some more changes in accordance with the new reply and then clicked preview again; the new-post message disappeared so it must've, in some way, acknowledged that I had seen the new post. Before I hit post I wanted to test something so, I then decided to take a look at my Watchlist to see if this thread was still marked as unread; it was.

I'm wondering if it would be feasible to implement it so that when you are in Preview mode and view the new reply that it marks the thread as read, as if you would have viewed the reply normally. If I explained this horrible, please let me know. I'd like some reasons for why this wouldn't/shouldn't be the case. It's obviously not the end of the world, but it would seem more consistent.

Edit, this might help people see how silly this can be

Image ^ , Might load slow cause forum is goofy ; Even when I post in my own thread it is possible for it to remain unread.
