I think there should be a split between general PC hardware and mining hardware.

The last one should include ASICs, FPGAs, video cards built only for mining, but also PC hardware used previously for mining, thus the buyer will know he buys a CPU / GPU which worked intensively for mining and not one used for gaming.

So I think it's OK if the mining hardware sections includes also other equipments besides ASICs. FPGAs must be included and also the video cards dedicated to mining (those with no video-out). But also usual PC parts which took part in the mining process. Of course, in this case it's the seller's reputation at stake, if he lies, selling equipment used for mining if the section of general PC equipment.

But this difference should be made.

computer gear with an asic subset board is fine with me.

I like your idea to strip the asics out of the computer gear.

and making them a subset does work.

why not pinning a thread that contains only ASICs-related replies and only requires personal message if ever someone is interested on a person/user's reply on that thread. It would be pretty easier for the others to find goods in a single thread instead of having a child board for it.

Doesn't seem like something I would want to use, imagine 100 people selling 500 different items, and 1000 different members asking questions or negotiating prices about all those items in a single thread!

I do tend to agree to iasenko's idea, although that might be a bit confusing but still a lot better than just a single thread.

Theymos knows the best.

I don't really agree to this unless Theymos is a regular member of the computer hardware board, which I doubt:Smiley, Theymos preaches consensus, he mostly does what the majority of members want, when I pm'ed him about this, he did not say Yes/No, he wanted to see if this request is rather popular and not just mine, which makes perfect sense, so if we get more people wanting the split, I am pretty sure theymos will grant it.

Maybe instead of splitting the Computer Hardware child board, we can add a child board ASICs & Mining to it? That solves the need to divide the whole Computer Hardware board, because the ASICs fall under the same category, and keep everything in it, just with additional sorting.

Or shouldn't we just connote it as Mining Hardware? Having another child board on a child board is pretty unnecessary as it would only have a single child board. If it would only be happen to sort things out? why not pinning a thread that contains only ASICs-related replies and only requires personal message if ever someone is interested on a person/user's reply on that thread. It would be pretty easier for the others to find goods in a single thread instead of having a child board for it. Also, I've learned some basics of database systems and my professor told me that having a single category (a1) on a category (A) wouldn't be that of a great help but instead keep that category (a1)'s info to the outer category (A).

Just sharin my knowledge with normalizing data. But still...

OP don't mention GPU/CPU which also used as mining hardware, but I doubt the part "benefit from the other" since hardware enthusiasm (including gamers) usually avoid used GPU by miners

I tend to agree to Artemis3's way of categorizing the board, IMO it should be ASICs vs everything else that is computer-related and that includes GPUs/CPUs, it does make a lot of sense to actually try and sell a GPU that was used for mining in a "mining" related board, but that is impossible to maintain, so the best split would be ASICs's child board, I think moving ASICs to their own board will fix 99% of the problem we have.

Agree, looking for a grapich cards to buy sometimes is pain in the ... you know.
Computer hardware and mining hardware can be a bit confusing if you are selling your mining rig in parts, so the graffic cards actually fall under both section and the mining MBs fall under the mining section. There should be a better divison like ASIC Miners and Computer Hardware maybe.

The computer hardware child board has been "invaded" by the ASIC Miners' WTB/WTS topics, to the extent that actual "Computer Hardware" topics are no longer visible on the first a few pages.

This very board was intended for computer hardware before ASICs became mainstream, and in spite of the fact that many members have lost interest in Non-ASIC's products, other's who are computer savvy but not into ASICs might use their own board.

I also agree ASICs should get their own section. GPUs are however used by both miners and gamers, and sometimes one group can benefit from the other, so i'm not sure about the "mining hardware" suggestion.

This sounds reasonable. The section is very overcrowded as is.

I support this suggestion, I always go there to check something new as an upgrade for computer but it's really hard to find between excess number of ASIC hardwares threads.
