The similiarities between Mars One and the Bitcoin ponzi, are striking.

Mars One, like Bitcoin, is a scam.

Mars One depends on private funding. The plan is to raise billions of dollars by airing a reality TV show. The problem is that the average TV viewer isn't interested in space colonization. The average reality viewer hasn't even heard about Mars. But even if the Mars One scammers somehow managed to raise a couple of billions, they still wouldn't have nearly enough to fund a one-way-trip to the red planet. You see: Space is a hostile environment. No human has ever been further out than the Moon. Mars is thousands of times as far out in space. There is currently no life support system capable of supporting human life for such prolonged travels. Nor is there a system for doing Mars-based agriculture when/if the astronauts finally manage to land on the martian surface. Nor is there a system for distilling or synthesizing water if they ever land on said surface.

Oh, and there aren't any propulsion systems capable of propelling such a huge vessel all the way to Mars in an acceptable time-frame either. Plus, there're hundreds of other huge engineering problems. The total cost for actually achieving something akin to the Mars One project, would be on the order of hundreds of trillions, not billions, of dollars. It's well beyond the capabilities of the entire world, let alone a silly reality show with, at best, a couple of million viewers.

And history has proven that humans don't get along very well then they're forced to stay together in cramped compartments over extended periods of time. Remember: In Mars One, there would be no escaping. You'd be forced to get along with all of your co-astronauts -- for the rest of your life. Every waking moment you'd have to listen to their nagging and watch their faces. Wouldn't that get on your nerves pretty soon? How would that make you feel, knowing that you can never return to Earth, never see any of your loved ones again, always just forced to share a tiny room with three people constantly getting on your nerves? While all the time, you all know that there're only a couple of inches of metal and composites separating all of you from the deadly, cold hostility of space?

The hypothetical astronauts would end up killing eachother well before they were halfway to Mars.

If you believe that Bitcoin is a scam, then why are you here? And where are you getting the trillions of dollars figure for the Mars One Project? There are plans to establish modest sized colonies that won't cost much more per "mission" than what the Mars One plan is calling for. Elon Musk was once quoted as saying he thinks he can get the cost down to something like $500,000 per person -- basically about what some people pay for a good house.

All cryptos are FIAT digital currency. Do not use.
Am I the only one who finds this whole situation odd and unusal ?

Or do I need to injest some of that government approved canned crack (alcohol) before things become believable. lol

So many posts about her... I still don't understand what the point of giving her any btc is... this whole Mars One is a dumb idea

Well some people find meaning from the act of exploration and of challenging themselves. Other people respect such bravery and share their dreams, but wouldn't or couldn't do it themselves, so donate money instead. I hope that explains the basics of it to you.

Of course others prefer to sit at home calling everything dumb, without actually giving any reasons why.

Perhaps you'd like to elaborate?

by 2025 is over optimistic. Even moon permanent human colony by 2025 is very optimistic  Smiley

Yeah we totally went to the moon 60 years ago and still can't figure out how to get people there today.   Isn't that funny?  Smiley

It's not that we can't figure out how to do it (because we know how to get people there) or how to keep people there (because we could figure that out), it's that there's no value in spending that kind of money to have people live on the moon.

Wow! This is pretty amazing and something that would take a lot of confidence to do. This is one brave woman indeed and I sure hope she manages to reach her goal and make her dream a reality Smiley

They say that engineers will overestimate what they can do in a year and underestimate what they can do in a decade.

FURring bitcoin up since 1762
Wow, I don't know if I could do that! Then again, your name would go down in the history books. It's effectively becoming someone like Zefram Cochrane... Incredible! You wouldn't only be the first person on another planet, but also the first one to actually stay there!

Mars One candidate, Heidi Hecht, is looking to finance her Mars travel expenses using Bitcoin. Today, on Reddit, she posted a link to her StartJoin fund raising page which features the above video.

According to her StartJoin description, Heidi strives to become the first Mars cosmonaut to fund her trip entirely in Bitcoin. If her name is drawn to be on the first mission, she would depart earth in 2024 and arrive on her new planetary home sometime in 2025.

Mars One is a non-profit organization based in the Netherlands that has put forward conceptual plans to establish a permanent human colony on Mars by 2025. Mars One’s current concept includes launching four carefully selected applicants in a Mars-bound spaceflight in 2024, to become the first residents of Mars, and have every step of the crew’s journey documented for a reality television program.

StartJoin, launched in February 2014, is a crowd funding technology platform that accepts cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), in addition to traditional fiat payment methods.
