The best way is to start from:

You post is nice and very informative, but the electricity cost is missing. Based on perfect English I assume you are from US (so it is ~$0.1 per kWh). If so - rx 480 is your choice.

MB, SSD, memory and CPU will cost around $150 per rig + ~$200 per PSU. GPUs (rx 480) are out of stock now - so you have to wait. The price will be ~$240. With you budget I will recommend to build one rig first.

ASIC is useless if alts prices will go down - while you can sell yours GPUs easily on Ebay.

What you have to note - you are quite late to the party. And every day you not mining difficulties increases and prices are fluctuating.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the resource, and I appreciate the info you offered.  I'll be looking into those sites now.

Hello everyone!  Smiley

Before I begin, I'd like to mention that I am looking to build a GPU rig or purchase an ASIC. Hopefully with this post, I can figure out what would be an ideal trade off between a GPU's ability to mine X11 and Ethereum and to hopefully make a decision on what ASIC to purchase for myself.  The ASIC idea would be for X11 and GPU for Ethereum.  Finance wise, I have ~$2200 to use.

I'd like to introduce myself and greet the community.  I'm relatively new to the idea of mining altcoins. For a month and a half, I've been all over Google, Bing, and Yahoo researching around about altcoins.  I've been hobby mining using two android phones I had laying around and my laptop when not gaming around.

So far, I feel like I'm understanding most of what I'm seeing.  However, there's an itch in my head that isn't satisfied, and that is regarding whether or not the resources and calculators that I use are actually correct.  Are these calculators normally correct?  What calculators do you use to figure what you want to mine?  I've currently been using the these namely, but would be interested in knowing some others that y'all use.

Another resource I'm curious about but can't find, is a tool or website that shows the specs of a device for all/some coins.  Something similar to what whattomine.com does, but across more gpu's and possible ASIC's.

With regards to the X11 ASIC, I would purchase one and use it to mine for a profit(this is where the itch comes from, the numbers seem too good to be true). If the one I purchase turns a profit then I would begin to purchase more.

Regarding GPU mining, I see that the RX480 will be out soon (or is out) and that it will have the highest initial MH/s (I've seen multiple websites claiming 25 MH/s). If this is the case, I would be willing to build a GPU miner, but I would want to figure the best altcoin to mine with the GPU and playing around with other altcoins to learn even more for myself.

I really appreciate any feedback, tools, or resources that can be offered so that I can learn even more and hopefully bounce what I've learned off of everyone here!

Thank you.

Edit 1: ps_jb stated my electricity cost is missing. It's $.091
