Hey Talk Merit,

Just wanted to say sorry about this post. Only after you commented did I realize how useless of a post it was.

The reason I posted it (believe it or not) was because I've had several questions from facebook friends asking confused questions about the merit system (which you've stated several times yourself is not that complicated.)

So I thought there must be some people who didn't want to do their own research... and since I'd written up the guide I may as well share it.

As I said in my post, I would delete it if i could but apparently I can't do that.

I'll try to right my wrong by shutting the f** up and just try to learn from the more senior members.

Have a great day,

MXgirl

Nope, there is no need to STFU but you might get a better response if you posted some of your own stuff and not merely copy and pasted someone else's stuff. We want original and constructive posts, where you went the extra mile to create your own information, not simply someone else's information.

Yes, you might have thought that you are making it easy for lazy people, but that is not helpful at all. If they are too lazy to read and do some of their own research, then they should also not be rewarded by this system in future.

The sMerit will go to original content, which adds value to the forum.  Wink

Tip : Avoid the merit subject, it is not a popular topic at the moment. There are too many people begging for it and other people getting pd#*@off by this.

Thank you for your kind words! I will take your advice... Yes after this I can see it is a sore subject. I look forward to contributing original, helpful content as my knowledge grows.

Appreciate the advice!

Why have you copied this sticky to spam this board. It isn't fair to new members who want their threads to be seen so that they can earn merit to rank up.

Please stop polluting the boards with copied text in the hope that you will scratch a few merit points. This isn't the way to do it, and it will get you put on ignore, so you will never get merit from some of the awarders.

We are all fed up with merit threads, lets move on and return to discussing crypto topics.

So I see tons of people asking this question and so I wanted to share the answer after doing much research on the subject.

MERIT EXPLAINED FOR NEWBS!!

The Merit system was introduced in January of 2018.  According to forum Administrator Theymos, "The merit system was done to increase the quality of the posts and to prevent the spam."  According to Theymos it does this in two ways:

1. Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
2. Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

So along side activity all users now have a merit score and people need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher ranks.

Original posting can be found here: Bitcoin Forum > Other > Meta > Merit & new rank requirements
Link to this post: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.28856522

Here is the new requirements for ranking up according to the Admin Theymos (This is the copy from the Merit & new rank requirements post)

Brand new
0 activity, 0 merit

Newbie
1 activity, 0 merit

Jr Member
30 activity, 0 merit

Member
60 activity, 10 merit

Full Member
120 activity, 100 merit

Sr. Member
240 activity, 250 merit

Hero Member
480 activity, 500 merit

Legendary (it's a range)
775-1030 activity, 1000 merit

"You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points can be sent by you to other people."

This is a very helpful post called "Comprehensive guide to Bitcointalk. Newbie friendly + calculator and infographic" Link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2534500.0/url

Here is a calculator to calculate based on your membership rankings:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1khSA28Ab6miwyknp3JvStcL0Yu05SIbGBDZDKcOLO6s/edit#gid=0

As I said before there is much discussion about this on the "meta" section of bitcointalk.

Good luck to all us newbies! <3
