I can understand the point in the OP. I am 5 activity points away from being considered for promotion to legendary, but now I have to earn an extra 500 merit points to get back on track. Added to that, I can see some legendaries crowing about the fact that they disn't have to make quality posts to become legendary. I have invented a new unofficial title of LAMP ( Legendary Awarded Merit Points ), and I shall strive for that.

I found the concept of merit quite interesting. I won't go into details about why it could be interesting or why it could be abuse but i will only focus on one thing in this post : The initial distribution of Merit point.
Indeed I found that the initial distribution really quite unfair.
Why? Because for the initial distribution, the current rank on the forum was used like this :
Current Rank Distributed Merit
Brand new 0
Newbie 0
Jr Member 0
Member 10
Full Member 100
Sr. Member 250

This distribution did not take into account the percentage of compleation of your next rank.
Indeed if you were a brand new Member, or a Member on its way to pass full member in 2 days you get the same number of merit initially : 10 merit point. You will then have to earn the same merits point than the brand new member even if your activity was more higher than him.
The activity level should have been used for this initial distribution because it reflect more correctly the percentage of compleation of your current rank and therefore it's more fair.
After this initial distribution, activity and merit are completly separated but for the initial distribution i think it would have been better to use the activity as a metric to distribute the merit point than the rank.
What do you think about it?

Even if it is unfair, it is not going to change. Sooner you accept and move on better it will be for the forum.

I don't think that you understood my post unfortunatly.
For me it's not a problem that older forum members have more merit point I'm okay with it no problem.
The only problem I see it's that people at the same rank during the initial distribution obtain the same number of merit even if they didn't have the same activity. There was better way to allocate those merit point byu using activity metric. And older forum member will still have had more merit point, the distribution will just have been more fair.
OK so..... whats the point of moaning? distribution is over... negativity doesn't help anyone.. and a new post moaning about the same thing 100% solves nothing...
think about your posts more.. you might get some merit for them!
Since the new features (+merit) added in this forum there are many members open their own thread but their concern is the same. I think they already read and understand what is the message of the original thread opened by theymos.
I think instead of complaining much better to hug the new policy because it was created for the good of this forum and all the members like us.

Like I said, the merit point itself seems quite interesting for me, I have no problem with it and I embrace it, it will be better to distinguish good quality poster than lazy one.
But I just want to debate about the distribution and the full rank metric used for it instead of the activity. That's all.

Since the new features (+merit) added in this forum there are many members open their own thread but their concern is the same. I think they already read and understand what is the message of the original thread opened by theymos.
