I think loyceV has already raised a thread like this
Correct. See LoyceV's deMerit source application, keep the discussion in one topic please.

Yep, probably he was aware of your thread and seeing how merited yours was, he came here in another pathetic attempt of earning the JR. Merit...
Seriously, people, think harder. I've been out for a while and came back yesterday just to realize that we've lost the Meta board in less than a week  Huh

If I had the ability to demerit then I would have given you one for this thread. I doubt this is something theymos will implement though.

This one was already proposed and talked about so many times before. You are not the only one who think of that but still thanks to your suggestion Grin.

For now, let's just settle down on theymos' statement regarding issue.
There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.

They also easily get merit without good benefits to get by their post
I don't get it. In the first place, why would they give a merit to a post which is not worthy and help them nothing? Well, if that's the case then the blame should be on the sender of merit not to the receiver because he only proved that he is unwise and not meticulous on picking the deserving one.
i omly mean if there are demerits they can also earn it if the post was not beneficial or non sense that seems to be a spam.
Clicking the "Report to the Moderator" button is enough.

I think loyceV has already raised a thread like this, there are many reasons why a demerit system should be adopted, but I think let the 1 merit junior member rule sink in first,if it's not adequate to quell the scam, then we can move for a demerit system.
And it's definitely not going to be an easy task convincing theymos on this one

That make sense
But numbers of people, who can give demerit should be less, than merit. And, I think, only in biggest topics.
And also it shouldn't affect on member's merit. Just another rate or indicator.

Demerits is a very interesting concept. That would be similar to a dislike or a downvote but it would have far more lasting consequences because it could effect a member's ability to use signatures, personal text, etc. I think it would incentivize higher quality posts as well and would potentially reduce spam even further.

However, like with most systems there are some that could also abuse this feature. Specifically if a member doesn't agree with another member's post they could simply use demerits to penalize them. Or they may choose to demerit another member out of malice or simply for entertainment.

Unfortunately, no system is perfect but i think right now the forum is taking the right steps to control spam but they will need to collect data and see how lasting the effects from the current rules will be before deciding on any further changes.

As for the updates and development of bitcointalk forum, i can see that there are glad about the new rules and there are also not happy about it. But i know one thing for sure, it is for the goodness of the bitcointalk forum, besides now there are less spammers posting.

As a member of this group, for fair concerns i think a suggestion, only suggestion for a good development of bitcointalk. If there are called MERITS, i think it is also good to have DEMERITS. Yes, because there are some members here arguing that several post that is not so good and beneficial had earned merits. They also easily get merit without good benefits to get by their post, i omly mean if there are demerits they can also earn it if the post was not beneficial or non sense that seems to be a spam.

However it was just a suggestion, the updates now are good for a better bitcointalk forum.
