I think I need to understand this, now have been hearing about (Merit system implementation), so I want to know.

**Does it mean that when the merit system was implemented on bitcointalk. The earlier adopters of Bitcointalk got a legendary rank automatically.

I know this is an old history of how Bitcointalk forum and rest of everything comes to existence. But I think newbies will like to know how it came about and those earlier members of the forum what happened to them.

When the merit system was implemented, everyone ranks was as they had before the merit implementation and hence it favored those who already were at high ranks in bitcointalk. But over the time, this does not matter much because those members who ware spammers were ruled out of this system because they were not able to get further merits and many of the accounts were also banned or tagged after that time. Now most of the high ranked members (before and after the implementation of merits) are the ones who deserved to be there.
Now such implementation won't take place any more because of the amount of members on the forum? Or it's because of in class of Good, bad and the ugly. 😂😂

You can't change the past but you can change the future. Theymos could return every account to it's basic rank but that would cause a big chaos because there were a lot of established users. Imagine, when you see everyone with only one newbie rank with limited possibilities, it's hard to understand who was who and it's especially hard to understand for newly registered people. So still, this action was pretty fair. The reason why they implemented Merit was to lessen the spam attack from people who were creating new accounts. While you stop attack from new people, you can slowly prevent spam from current users and finally you get normal situation by "not burning any bridge".

Pretty much. While I think some of them really doesn't care about forum ranks,  It would be quite unfair to make everyone start from scratch(newbie rank) even though most of them deserve the high-ranks because a lot of them are actually real early adopters that are actually genuinely interested in Bitcoin.

Sure, the airdrop surely rewarded the people who probably didn't deserve the merit airdrop, but it's the right move in the long-term success of the forum.

definitely has answered my question, meaning the 1000 Merits airdrop and some sMerits got most members that are legendaries today wasn't due to quality post. So in turned the merit system got implemented that it most be quality before one can earn Merits.

Yes. There are definitely Legendary users that only got there not because of merits but just because of the airdrop. It doesn't take long to look around and see a few users that are stuck at the 1000 merit mark because they aren't capable of getting merits through posting.

While that might be "unfair" to some, it would probably also be unfair to make every single user go back to being a newbie. But look at the bright side, newer users after the merit implementation can't spam their way to the top now!
I think that's something that's never gonna happen making everyone go back in being a newbies what a joke. Imagination of such steps will really bring the fall of Bitcointalk as a whole.

On the other hand the 5.5 years of posts I did from 2012 to 2018 were worth thousands of merit points.

I was only airdropped 1000.

There were a few posters back then did a of good work and got very few merits many would have thousands more points then the airdrop give.

Unfortunately this is a flaw that is not going to be addressed.

Along with the current flag system.

and trust system .

we have three ways to judge a person that still get gamed or miss out on a person.

Oh on being a source another issue that some feel is not quite correctly mangaged.

You were a user of the forum when the merit system was implemented.
Are you a legendary member now?
Well, I think he's talking about old-time members and not just those who were here when the merit system got rolled out.  And if that's the case, then no, nobody got bumped up to Legendary when that happened.  The only related thing that did happen was that Legendaries got airdropped 1000 merits and some sMerits, and other ranks got lesser amounts depending on how high they were ranked.

Does that answer your question, OP?

Wow, this

**Does it mean that when the merit system was implemented on bitcointalk. The earlier adopters of Bitcointalk got a legendary rank automatically.

Everyone kept the same rank that they had at the time. This was implemented via merit "airdrop" that others mentioned - users got the exact amount of merit that was needed for them to maintain their existing rank. Except Jr. Members: initially they kept their rank with 0 merits but later Jr. Member requirement was changed from 0 to 1 merit so they got demoted to Newbies if they didn't have at least one earned merit.

No, but before the merit system came about it was simply time in service and enough posts.

I made my legendary status in  2017. with zero merits I did enough time and enough posts.

I was given 1000 merits in 2018 I have earned 1300 plus since then.

The Merit system was introduced on 24th/Jan/2018. Maybe you were not active at that time.
Check this topic out for a proper understanding of how everything would work after the introduction of the merit system: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-new-rank-requirements-2818350

Just to make it more clear, when the system was implemented every rank got their merit airdropped accordingly.
There was an exemption, tho. Some Hero Members got airdropped merit for Legendary rank because they had already achieved the required minimum activity for legendary 775 a d since the Legendary ranking up is happening on random basis for activity between 775 and 1030 they were considered Legendary.
