This is the article I wrote describing the Bitcoin Talk merit system. It is written from the perspective of a merit source -
The Bitcoin Talk merit system

It has been a great help in reducing spam, but many members still do not stop to think about their posts, and the effect that their text, content and styling have on their readers. For example - using emboldened and capitalised text to emphasise words may be good for search engine optimisation. but it jars on your readers, and slows down their scanning of your text. As a result of this, you are less likely to receive merits as awarders with limited reading time skip your post.

I expect that this thread will generate a number of full quotes of the opening post, and this is another thing that reduces the meritability of a post. It will be apparent if this does happen that the poster is not reading the thread, but just banging out a spamming reply,

I'm a merit source, and I usually have around 200 sMerits available to reward posts. I would love to reduce this, and I don't have any difficulty in giving away merits, and the merits I award are replaced in 30 days anyway, so there is no incentive for me to keep them, in fact the reverse is true. My problem is in finding posts to merit, and I have tried numerous ways to generate these posts and threads. For example, the Fit to Talk project is pretty quiet at the moment, but in the past it has been able to generate 20 or more merits for single posts by members. So please don't say "Why do people find it difficult to award merits?", but say "Why do members find it so difficult to make the effort to create decent posts?".
thank you for sharing the link above, I will take out time to go through the thread 💝

let's discuss merit, how it works and circumstances surrounding it here

YOU ALL WELCOME
My question is:  did you just wake up from a long nap to find the merit system now exists?  Have you missed the many, probably 100, threads in Meta already discussing the merit system and all the advice for people who want to earn it?  A new thread like this is completely unnecessary and just bloats the forum with more nonsense.  And your capitalization of the word merit is extremely annoying and there's no need to do that.

tl;dr: This has been discussed to death already.  Lock this thread to prevent spammers with zero merits from coming here and sharing their opinions on how to earn merits.
First, Thank you for making out time to comment here - and to some extent, you might be right about me having just woke up to find out a merit system now exist here, am an unregular here, I don't go through different categories finding out what's posted there to know that this subject have been discussed severally on meta - I've tried the search function and it didn't deliver the desired result which is why created this thread.

And secondly, we don't know each other both here and outside world, how am I supposed to know what annoys you? For a guy like me, capitalized word isn't what I look for in a sentence, what matters to me is the message - so am sorry if capitalizing the word "merit" annoyed you, it's because you let it annoy you so not really my fault - am only here to learn something I don't know

Hi all

I've been a long time member here (not as in rank), I join this forum way back in 2016,( though not too long ago for some people, but I guess it's long enough for someone who didn't get to know about bitcoin and Cryptocurrency on time) this was way before MERIT ranking was introduced to each profile on bitcointalk, before the introduction of this, moving from one rank to the other was though not easy then but way easier then than it is now, I understand that the reason why  MERIT was introduced was to make or enable people create more meaningful post so in turn, they get merited and in turn also, move up in rank, but I discovered that people find it very difficult to give MERIT even when you make the best post ever, and to worsen this, I've exalted my MERIT counts giving to others, and all this people I gave never gave any back, is it that they don't know how to give MERIT or they just don't want to??
