Why would merits stop hate ?

Hate can be a very good thing. Hating scams or scammers and those members presenting  deliberately false information is a very healthy response.

What merits have stopped is free and unhindered speech and open and honest debate.

Merits have stopped the hate of many high profile scammers. That is a negative.

Merit has done massive damage to this forum.
If it was used only to prevent or hinder bots and account farmers fine and useful.

When you attempt to apply meaning to the largely meaningless merit metric you simple create far more damage than good.
The undeniable damage has been stated and remains undisputed  many times so it is unnecessary to list it all again here.

Merit has created a 2 tier double standards environment rife with corruption and created  lots of hate.

I think there's no connection with merit and hate. Merit system stopped the spammers only to rank up as well as to encourage users to have more quality posts. You can still create hate posts even with having merit system.

Personally, I think the only way merit helped to “stop the hate” on this forum is that it gave the haters something shiny to focus on instead of constantly stirring up trouble.

I Agree, the merit system was a good addition for haters to slow down the distribution of their poison, hate.

The merit system was not designed to stop fighting among forum members, it was designed to stop spammers from being able to rank up.

There is a lot of fighting among cliques of forum members. There are probably at least 5 threads with various disputes in both Meta and Reputation that are posted in at least daily.
When people want to begin fighting, they always find reasons to start 'wars'. Reasons (in their opinion) can be trust system, negative feedback, flags, disaggrements, merit system, and more ones.

For the merit system, I feel happy with it because despite of the fact the system takes me 2 years to become a Hero Member and many decent efforts to move and get what I have had now. It restricts spammers to rank up to higher ranks and in the same time it allows good users to move upward on higher ranks. People who can rank up with the merit system are different and they deserve that. Their efforts are and will be recognised by the community (from the merit they received and from the reputation they built up) and by the campaigns' managers (it will them having higher probability to be chosen by managers of good campaigns). All of that, help them having good bonus income during their time on the forum.

Hate? I don't see any reasons to hate the others, starting with the merit system.

I will say that @OP haven't realized the intention or goal of merit system. Merit system isn't implemented to prevent hate, troll and attack each others. The goal of merit is encourage forum users to create quality post. So if users need to rank up then they are forced to make quality & useful post instead of just spamming.

We can realize now that many people trying at least make good post from their end who need rank up. On the other hand so many spam reduced already due to merit system. I can say the goal of merit is succeed.

Those seniors that understand the forum know that merit has directly and indirectly increased the hate levels to a significantly more unpleasant level.

They have created a 2 tier system and that will always result in some extra legitmate hate and friction.

When you understand how this is meant to self regulate then you realize it is based upon continual threat and collusion. The power will always break down into managable factions that will eventually agree to divide up the spoils and attack all possible competition except insurmountable opponents ( the other factions).

You don't see the constant state of fear, loathing, seething hate at the unfairness those not part of these abusing factions will feel?

Merit is a highly destructive cancer. It could be made useful with some minor tweaks.

What would you suggest? IMHO, it's fine as it is and just like any other function on the forum (ranks and self-moderation), it can be abused if the individual wants to.

Guessed you must have missed a lot. There are still hates like they were before and it's mostly between some higher rank members which gives opportunities to some newbies accounts to start trolling around.
The merit system plays no role in stopping hates or trolls. The only system that plays little part of the role is the trust system.

I agree that merits can't take the credit for this directly., although the reduction in sig spamming probably helped. The trust system changes may have made a difference, and I think a few of the culprits have left the forum. Also we seem to have reduced the Moana Virus infections.

I am sure that after the merit system that is what helped to decrease the comments with hate as we have seen before. Now people have to think twice before insulting or attacking, after all, there is no reason to spread poison or bring negativity here. To the contrary what we really need is to bring any type of value we can to help others.
I don't get your point here. There's no real punishment for personal attacking or insulting (except for deleting posts/comments or worse - red trust). Why would people stop doing that for merit. Your "thinking twice" argument only holds true for serious members who really want to rank up or prove themselves. Shit members still shit all over forum every day and every where.

In deed, merits even bring more hate to itself from those members who can't rank up for bounties.

I don't see any relation between merit and hate. I just don't see how merit can stop it.

Lol pretty much. Crap talkers and fudsters like the Kaos77(or something) dude that has extremely strong opinions against Bitcoin are still present. I mean, it's not like they're suddenly not allowed to post after the merit system has been implemented.

I don't see any relation between merit and hate. I just don't see how merit can stop it. Maybe at the moment situation here is calm, but in more than 2 years since merit system was released, we saw more than enough drama, conflicts accusations and etc. And we will see it in future.
I think these things are more related with trust and flag systems.

Is it only my perception or perhaps it is a fact? that I haven't seen many people attacking each other here on this forum as I used to see many of them before.

If that is a real fact, congrats to the moderators for their good work! I have seen fewer people overreacting on thread's comments. I wasn't commenting here for a while and now that I am back I can feel and see the absence of haters as they were many over here.

I wonder what will be the next same useful trust reputation feature after the merit system?
