I find your lack of faith in Bitcoin disturbing.
Okay, but what about the reports, where you need to change something? For example, in this post, the user didn't form his links correctly and that makes them inoperable. Yes, the post was written in 2017. But, as they say, for history Wink How to deal with such a thing? Question to all moderators. Or is it no longer important for history?

In this particular case, Xandry has already answered (3 posts below, OK... 4 years later) but OP has certainly seen his message and did not take his time to fix the links. Why take your time to make a report to ask to fix the links ? Why should a mod take his time to fix the links ?
History will remember that OP didn't know how to make good links Smiley.
(Another mod might give a different answer than mine, Theymos didn't interconnect our brains... not yet Smiley)

Okay for a little breakdown about deleted post, although i know there have been lot of contributions but i must tell you truth about something you don't need to worry again. If your post is deleted have it at back of your mind that your post has a low quality effort, or your post is out of topic maybe those post were lot of reports made while submitting bounty reports, or could be hate speeches.
It's normal thing for your post to get deleted and even some of my post has also been deleted then, and from then i kept putting more efforts to make sure none of my post will be deleted again.

what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?
I wonder what percentage of the statistics of the reports are reports on old (more than six months) posts? How will the number of reports decrease because of this restriction? It would be very interesting to see Wink

when i checked my report stats recently there were about ~300 reports and, until a couple months ago, 3 were reported as "unhandled" and iirc it was at 3 for several years. then the other day i reported a post and noticed my "unhandled" went down to 2.

so either some very old report just aged out or some very old report from some ancient post finally got taken care of (not my report specifically, prolly mine is just one of many reports on that particular post).

Yes, you're right, reports on posts or threads that are more than six months old may not be moderated and marked as bad.

From what I understand, its not that moderators won't handle all reports for posts made more than 6 months ago, but only in cases mentioned in that message so for example if you want to report old post that has malware link, they will act on that so blocking it for all posts made more than six months ago woulnd't make sense.
That's the point I want to know what's the other reason to report an old post, because it's usually about to clean the forum. But yeah a malware link seems to be one of the reason why it should be reported regardless how old or new the post is.

Why do we've double standard for deletion, then? Is there any explanation for such?
Because if your post get deleted manually by the moderator, it's mean the problem is from your post. But if your post got deleted because the moderator deleted the main thread, it's mean your post high likely not broke the forum rules.

If you received email notifications for your deleted posts, it means those posts were deleted individually by moderators.

If your posts belong to a thread which was reported then deleted by forum moderators, you will not get email notifications.

Probably a big chunk of reports went on those old posts otherwise there woulnd't be such a change so I expect quite a big drop in reports numbers. Now that admins gonna have a little bit more time on their hands, I hope they become more strict in certain boards but I doubt that's gonna happen.

if the forum will not want to handle reported post which already 6 months old, why we can still submit a report or what is a valid reason we can report an old post?

I have to say that this new update definitely makes sense as I see no much purpose in reporting years old posts for trivial reasons like thread bumping or consecutive posting other than stat padding. This way moderators will have more time to handle reports of the recent posts that actually affect us on the daily basis.

Yes, you're right, reports on posts or threads that are more than six months old may not be moderated and marked as bad. It's up to the moderator, but I'm sure that's what will happen. As for why it's still possible to send a report on posts or topics older than six months. Making two separate forms to send reports or closing the form for such posts is too difficult, IMHO.

Now you don't have to worry about old posts or threads Wink As of today, the form for submitting reports now has a label for old posts or topics. If a reporter tries to submit a report on an old post or topic, they will get this warning:
I get a warning message if the post was created at October 12, 2022, so the forum consider above than 6 months is already an old post. I'm curious what if I report an old post? will my report marked as bad or unhandled? if the forum will not want to handle reported post which already 6 months old, why we can still submit a report or what is a valid reason we can report an old post?

4 years is a long time but sometimes deletion of old posts happens when someone necro posts trying to bump an old/dead thread and other users read the contents of this thread and find alot of posts below par which get reported and mods act on them immediately if they fall short od certain parameters.
But all in all this is totally normal.

I have experienced the deletion of old posts and some new posts. It is the moderators decision if they find any post irrelevant or if it is something that can cause spamming in the forum they will delete it. Your reply from that post will be deleted as well because of post deletion. You should not worry about those deleted posts as most of them were harmful for this forum and its users.

As long as it is visible here in Bitcointalk it will be visible on the internet and it will show up in the search engine, so posts that have no substance or are considered spam and redundant should be deleted, so when it comes to reference on any subjects about Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency related subjects those topics and discussion will come out and readers will appreciate the flow of the conversion.
So always check your posts and be sure that its relevant to the topic and is not redundant to avoid deletion.

I've recently received several emails about deleted posts -  only I haven't posted here in years.

Has anyone else experienced old posts getting deleted?

This is very possible, post can be deleted at any time as long as the moderator got to discover such, irrespective of the time it had been posted without being noticed, sometimes it takes them a while to check on posts and found some to be off topic, or worth deleted and they take every necessary action immediately as they got to know, what makes some get noticed as quick as possible is when the moderators received a report concerning the post, this also make the action fast on deleted posts.

Looking through the history of posting on the forum, especially 2017-2018, and comparing it with the statistics of sending reports, I came to the conclusion that in those days, the times of ICO and bounty, the moderators simply did not have time to deal with all the spam that was published at that time. There were thousands, tens of thousands of posts of this spam, if not more. Until now, a lot of these low-quality posts, shilling, spam, referral spam, endless duplicates of the same topics, etc., all this is still hanging on the forum. In 2017-2018, bounty spammers pretty much littered this forum. And what is most remarkable, our forum is about bitcoin, and most of all the garbage from the discussion of altcoins. Cheesy

Fair enough  Re: Alt coin spamming.  That's where most of my posts have been, but I'd like to think I was always pretty aware of posting something related to the topic and not simply posting to post a shill/spam comment.   In a matter of minutes I had 22 posts deleted.  It appears this thread made someone go and report all my comments from years ago, lol.

Although some users, including moderators, believe that reporting old posts (not really very old, starting from 2018) is a waste of time, I still adhere to the position that garbage on the forum should be deleted, no matter when this garbage it was abandoned, yesterday or 4 years ago. If these posts are low-quality, then it's okay that now there is less of this crap in your post history. The main thing is that no one deletes valuable posts.
We all know how much reports you submit to clear the spam posts on forum and yes whether it's old or new spam remains the same but the problem also arises when they simply bump up the thread after some time to gain more attention about those shitcoins they are promoting so it should be reported and if mods delete that ANN threads it's really appreciated on their part. They are not contributing anything but trying to gain some victims from these sort of spammy threads which should be deleted no matter how old they are.

I think some posts are still worth reporting to moderators [spam or low value posts] even if they are old posts, but for some reason the possibility of reporting old posts isn't really necessary. I think found one of the global moderator's answers about that when Ratimov created one of the threads about his report activity.

I hid the dust under the rug - it means I cleaned the apartment

Reporting posts from 2018 in dead threads that have already been locked really isn't necessary. Sometimes it seems like people are going out of their way to find stuff to report. Posts that have been edited shouldn't be removed anyway as someone can just edit their post and then report it to try make sure it's fully deleted and people can try cover their tracks this way. There probably should be some sort of statue of limitations on certain stuff because posts in dead threads from years ago really isn't an issue. If you want to report stuff there's thousands of posts made a day by shitposters so it's not like you'll ever run out of stuff to do.

That's not happening with everyone but only with those who made spammy or wrong-category posts in specific threads. Like taking my example, my one post was deleted and I know the reason of deletion, i actually send POA two times by mistake and I can not delete the 2nd POA post within 24 Hours so i just edit it and write on it, "it is posted by mistake and I will delete it after 24 hours" but my post was already deleted by moderators.
As for you, only 2 of you posts were deleted, according to bpip tool, moderators have deleted 2 of your posts, and why they deleted them? Can only be answered by you like which posts you feel missing in your post history and maybe by sharing some details of them we can conclude which rule you broke. But that's ok to delete 1 or 2 posts but I think if you get deleted more posts then it could cause a problem (unofficial rule, just my observation.)

According to modlog ----> https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php

You have one post that has been deleted in this thread ----> ★★★ [ANN][BTCG] BitcoinG | AIRDROP | (WAVES token) ★★★

Delete reply: Re: ★★★ [ANN][BTCG] BitcoinG | AIRDROP | (WAVES token) ★★★ in topic #2240541 by member #1153673

So you should have received one message and not several messages.

As for the reason for the deletion, it does not seem that you are the only one.

Were those posts maybe written in one of the ANN threads? I am asking because we have a couple of members (and afaik one mod) that are regularly clearing altcoins section from thread bumping shitposts written years ago when this thing was popular, so your posts might got caught in their reproting spree.

I just happened to visit an ANN thread for an altcoin yesterday, and as it's a particularly shitty one there were a bunch of posts which were obviously done to either bump the thread or to give the impression that there was a lot of interest in the coin.  The thread was from a year or so ago, and a couple of the posts were so bad that I reported them, even though they were clearly old and probably forgotten about.

Don't know if something similar happened in OP's case or how the mods treat reports for old posts, but it's not a big deal and I imagine there are a number of reasons an old post of yours could get nuked.  Not a big deal, OP.

It's pretty normal if somebody else reported that specific post. Sometimes the posts that remain in your account are posts that have significant relevance on the thread or not just some spam construction of words. There are also cases where threads are being deleted and if unluckily your post is among them, it will also be deleted. Way back I have several posts deleted since I wasn't that knowledgeable enough on the forum and mostly I was on the off topic threads, and I don't mind my posts getting deleted, at the very least you'll know the threads are being moderated, aside from that at the very least the account has been cleansed.

I don't understand why many users take it as normal because the past was different than now. Most of users in the past are spamming by creating one liner post without any point and it's still exist until now, if it should be deleted maybe 50% of total posts in this forum will be deleted.

If I'm not mistaken buy and sell Bitcointalk account in the past doesn't have any problem too.

Another thing it's fine for DT members were left negative feedback because of spamming and merit abuse, if you do it now don't be surprised if someone will create a thread in Reputation section and you will be excluded from DT system.

Also its not just about your message maybe some threads itself got deleted which included our post too.
If the thread got deleted, the @OP wouldn't get email notifications.

But if the thread is self moderated and he deleted @OP post, @OP will get notifications.

If you received email notifications for your deleted posts, it means those posts were deleted individually by moderators. Probably because someone reported your posts to forum moderators and they handled it by deleting your reported posts.

It's not out of place for moderators to delete posts that are several months or years old. The post is visible and as such is still under moderation regardless of when it was published.

I would rather mods prioritize more recent cases over threads which may already have been buried several pages deep. It's too much work for very little reward.
