It is not perfect but it is better than nothing, after all there are many people which do not take the time to look into the most recent scams and they can lose their money against a known scam which was outed months ago, so it has its uses, however as the majority of us knows already the best and the last line of defense are ourselves, unfortunately there are some people out there which do not take this role seriously and that is why they get scammed so often.

I don't think it's not a big deal when you have invested your money on there, it's not about the amount you have invested, but it's about the trustworthy the project is. I still think there are few legit projects which really focus about the real use case than the making money purpose.

If that's the case then there's still a chance for scammers to attack Metamask users because they can easily create new sites once their scam sites have been reported. There were already lots of phishing activities on Metamask and to make it 100% safer for us, we should be the ones to avoid phishing sites by being wise and observant before clicking. However, their added feature is somehow helpful to lessen the number of scams on the site but we should also be responsible to do our part.

Thousands upon thousands of coins have been released on this market over the years and besides bitcoin which coin was released without any premine or sale of coins for an overpriced price? Personally I am not aware of a single coin which did this, maybe this happened on the early days when the first altcoins were released, but since then the people behind those coins have cared about nothing else but the money they can earn out of the naive investors which decide to give them their money.

This might not be big for veteran users because just one look at the site they know that the site is a scam. But for newbies, this is helpful because the way it pops up they will automatically be aware of the situations and they will quickly avoid those sites that are scams. These are really the updates we need from other wallets as well and from this, I'm sure there will also be lots of updates regarding this one prioritizing their user's safety is really what they need so that they will gain more users in the future.

The other chains have to respond to this development. When the detection of scams isn't really their thing but they have to when a lot of reports swarming them about scam projects that are going through with ETH and other supported chains. I think from here, there will be followed up developments and this gives the idea to the other developers that are also working with the others so that means, it's a very welcoming development and at the same time a very helpful feature that's going to give everyone the benefit to detect scam coins and will benefit a lot for those who's always into various tokens.

The main protection is from knowing yourself that this system will remain vulnerable. Every scammer has their own methods and new ones are always coming up. Scammers are indeed very active and are constantly looking for their victims to get lots of benefits. I even use a hardware wallet that is never connected to any dapp and that's only for long term assets.

That is definitely a very useful feature, even though it obviously only works with addresses and sites that are already confirmed as a scam. Still, a lot of people don't have the time to always stay up to date with the latest news about the new scams and hacks in the crypto space, that are basically happening each and every day. So this feature will definitely protect those people from getting hacked.
In the recent days and weeks i heard from a lot of people that they have switched to other wallets for example rabby wallet, because they are easier to use and more smooth and stuff like that. So it definitely is important that metamask keeps improving in order to not lose their top spot.

I don't know about that problem. this is just my opinion, wallets marked as fraud will be frozen and no one can access the wallet and will be published as a fraud wallet so that no one will be scammed again. again this is just my opinion let's wait for more updates.

Welp, this is better than nothing you know, but to me it's just like that anti-virus thing where they have a bunch of list of potentially dangerous apps trying to invade your computer. This is a great start and a better development and I hope this will grow more in the future to help investors choose the right investment without losing too much from a scam token. Aly, it's not that really perfect to avoid scam tokens since most of them are just starting, so a scam potential token will be detected only if someone put it on the watchlist.

Metamask user here. Pancakeswap has been safe for me to use.
I found ASH token on pancakeswap which is a recently new token that has rebounded from the last bear market. Since December is has steady growth of over 300%. Currently it's pretty evenly distributed over 1600 wallets and growing.. This isn't your typical token, it has a liquidity pool that builds with each transaction due in part to a transaction fee. Token holders get a vote on which projects this pool funds. Checkout there website ashtoken.io the incentive is in holding because 5% of that transacting fee goes back to wallet holders. Amazing concept that is going to continue to boost this token.

Beware of SCAMS and don't connect your wallet to a nontrusted website. Research all alt coins and trading platforms before connecting.

No clear details on how they are going to this, though they should surrender the money into somewhere because it should not be their source of income, maybe they can return it to a legitimate victim of that scammer wallet, but doing this will require another work. Let’s see if Metamask is already prepared for this scenario, its good to be more secured though.

Indeed, unfortunately, there is a lack of information that thoroughly explains how this scam detection feature works, which makes it hard to get a grasp of its potency.

I have tried to look around about signature farming and wallet draining behaviour that is managed by Blockaid, it seems that OpenSea has already those kinds of systems in place(https://opensea.io/blog/articles/our-efforts-to-prevent-nft-theft). So it is rather vague about what are the differences between the OpenSea system and Blockaid's analysis system. One thing that looks promising is that there is automation of interaction or transaction simulation taking place, which if we looked upon it on the surface, that could potentially reduce scam smart contact massively.

This is good, too many people who do not know how they should use their Metamask ended up connecting them to wrong places and ended up losing their money. This way it is at least a bit lesser chance to get it hacked like that, there are so many places that could steal from you and the lower you can get that number the better, because there are too many people who would fall for each of them, banning even few would be awesome.

These are for known scams at least, and that means there would be a lot of websites who can't continue to keep scamming people, I am pretty sure there would be some extra idiots who would override to reach in there, which would be realistic considering how many idiots are out there in the world.

The developers of Metamask have done a good job, and we should applaud them for it. With the implementation of this feature, if we connect to an insecure link, we will receive a warning and our wallet will remain secure. If such features are implemented in other wallets as well, it will be a significant achievement for the crypto community but we should also be careful while connecting the wallets to unknown links.

This feature is probably not even needed for bitcoin wallets because you cant connect those to suspicious websites and lose your money that way as thats how majority of people lose money with Metamask.

To be honest I'm very impressed with the current developments in Metamask, because apart from the security features you mentioned, Metamask also has many new features such as swap and britge. I think in the near future there will be a lot of development by the metamask team.

There must be a reason why they did not do it, maybe they did not had the resources to do so or maybe it was a matter of ideology, in which they preferred to let their customers do as they wished without given them any kind of warning, but as the number of scammers has increased during the previous years then they found themselves on the obligation to do a move like this to protect the ones using their wallet or they risked losing them to other wallet providers.

Finally such prevention has come, it's just mad that so many scams impersonating dapps stealing money through complicated means which abstract itself from becoming too obvious and they're successful at it, it needs to stop eventually.
Even though many have stated that such thing might be just futile attempt but regardless at least there's still warning that could just prevent some from making the transaction.
It's just made these days that to just use some smart contract we should be looking out for the fake version for it, even worse if we forget in revoking the permission of using the ERC20 it's gonna get stolen eventually.

It is obvious that these scams and fraud sites are reported by the community. Without the participation of the community, these scam sites will not be exposed. Sadly it needs other people to lose funds before knowing the sites to be fraud or scams.

Well obviously. That's basically one of the features of crypto. Self custody. Not everyone can or should do it as some people are not going to be able to handle their finances. Claiming otherwise would be ableism. The fact is that some people will always need someone more or less to look after them and those people need extra security unless they want to get scammed. It's basically same argument that is in big vs small government.

I mean i love metamask and people don't remember what hell it was to use early versions of MEW compared how smooth you can connect with metamask.

And that said, why it took them 5 years to implement something like this? I totally understande that we don't owe them anything, and i might seem like self entitled annoying user when i even ask this as i haven't done anything for them. But 5 years of scams is a long time to figure out what could be done. One would think that security of the non tech savvy users would be high on the priority list.

But you know what these hackers will still do something with it and will be able to reverse unless they won't announce the source codes of it so that these hackers won't have that idea.

This will only work when the scam is already known as what you can read from their post. If you ever connect to a platform or website that is a scam that is not known yet then you won't get that notification or warning message when interacting with the site. It is a good step by metamask since you will get warned that it might be a scam site that you haven't know yet and metamask have it in their data or list of scam sites or a suspicious website.

Finally some amazing feature by a wallet. I think this is possible due to connectedness of MetaMask to World Wide Web via its browser extension. The permission grants access to data that is being surfed, the site info and certificate access. This might be making it easier for MetaMask to join the force with opensea and blockaid.

This sort of improvement may not be possible with the bitcoin wallet. If they do it then they will have to kee marking all the generated addresses which is tedious task with decentralised management.

MetaMask might be getting upper hand there as well. Great feature.

As stated in the tweet it is indeed only prevents users from known scams, but I think it would significantly reduces the number of scam victims. Though, one question arises is how fast would those 3 projects will be able to analyze and confirm a scam or malicious contract, because that span on time will also affect the number of potential scammed users.

Anyway, this kind of feature is surely a good thing for users but as both of you said, it does not address one of the root causes which is the user itself that lacks securities concerns. Also, those scammers certainly won't stop improving, I'm sure they would try to find a way to bypass this prevention system.

Something is better than nothing so atleast thos feature will stop scams that is already exposed but this isn't a life saviour so as a user we should be cautious while connecting our wallets with other sites and even while making transactions that is why having multiple wallets can save you from loss like airdrop scams, dust attacks and like those.

If you're patient zero of the victim, there is nothing to do anymore still losing the money. This work, after so many transaction are scamming always to check and re-check again for a website/smart-contract you're connected.

Best advice is always with a fresh wallet, make a different with your main wallet.

It must be marked that if the wallet will be only detecting a known scam that is already written in the database but as long as the scammer is not even using an address related to the old address that is used for the scamming purpose and it still very hard to call it as a scam.
This feature is good enough but i wonder how fast the feature updates with the latest scam that discovered by people in the market. Let's see how effective that feature is. The accuracy actually depend on the what kind of scam that already reported and submitted to the database.

Metamask coming up with a feature like this is a great one, which will help a few people a lot to some extent, but according to what they state, it will only help detect scam sites that have already been flagged, which means if the site is newly scam, they will still be unable to detect it as a scam, so what they are actually doing is blacklisting some sites, which they won't allow to connect into their database.

People who will misunderstand this might probably think every site that Metamask allows them to connect to after adding this feature is safe, and they will feel less of a concern than they should have, exposing themselves to more security risks than they could have ever been exposed to. It's a good thing to see that Old Metamask is still constantly working to safeguard their customers.

We still own the wallet and freely do what ever we want. It is still our fault if we get scammed and the maximum effort that metamask and other wallet can do is to provide warning just like what metamask did. I agree that this isn't a fully scam proof feature but at least we have this kind of feature that is offered to us to potentially avoid these scams. Newbies are the one who I think will mostly benefit this kind of feature as they don't really know much on how things works and they are the target victims of these scam projects.

This can be a big improvement from a wallet developer, at least Metamask will be more secured if ever.
I've read some news as well that Metamask are not allowing multiple IP address already, or this is just a rumor but this is only a restriction to a bounty hunter. If this new feature will be live, hopefully they can start to block hackers/scammers wallet though at least give them a chance of legitimacy since many might be affected by this even if they are a real wallet holder.
