i would suggest something like

a starting bonus of 10k satoshi to everyone who join

do not force the disabling of adblock

do not send bitcoin to other stupid site, keep them there(maybe add a online wallet, secure it with 2fa?) with a threshold

add a skill game to the faucet(like 2048) or a fun browser game, it keep people from running away, maybe add a bonus for those who keep playing more?

last but not last, the payments should be great, no the usual low payout of 500-1k satoshi, what about 2-3k or even 5k?

I would suggest starting off by offering a large giveaway amount in the faucet. That ways you will naturally get a lot of traffic on the site. After that advertise it on some other gambling sites or on reddit, and make posts about it.

No idea how freebitcoin and moonbitcoin becomes so popular, but you can set a high referral commission % for your faucet, and ask some faucet rotators to put your site on their lists.
You can find quite some rotators in the newbie section https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0.

OK, so let's imagine someone makes a faucet. What are the different ways that they could promote their faucet? I understand that Freebitco.in is a very popular faucet. How did they become so popular compared to other faucets out there? And is most of the marketing done via word of mouth? I would think that most faucets don't get enough money from ad revenue to justify actual advertising.

And if most of the marketing is done via word of mouth then how would this work for someone who has just set up a newly built faucet? Most faucets don't offer anything unique so it seems unlikely that people would talk about it.

I suppose a referral program would be one way to entice people to spread the word.

Are there link lists or faucet rotators that accept new faucets? Is there a directory of faucet sites available on the web where one can submit their faucet to? Is there a "Faucet Marketing 101" style book that covers the basics of owning a faucet site for newbies?
